I have chronic lung disease and a paralyzed vocal cord - these things make me very breathless, especially when I speak. The only thing that helps is 1/4 or 1/2 of a Percocet. I have some left over from my last surgery in 2020 but I am running out. I've asked all my doctors, none will prescribe since the opiate hysteria and new restrictions. I am old (72) and I can't go looking to buy. Does anyone know of a pain doctor in NYC willing to prescribe? I use so little, but I want to continue teaching and 1/2 Perc gets me through my seminar. TYIA (this is my first post here and I'm sorry if anything I have written is not allowed)

I’m from NYC too. I feel your pain, and all I can say is if a doctor won’t prescribe this to you have you ever tried kratom? Don’t take the extracts or pills. Just look for the whole ground natural leaf powder. Check out the Golden Monk brand online (google it), and aim for either the red or green varieties (Maeng Da, Bali, Sumatra varieties are all a good start). Kratom is legal and works in much of the same ways. Start with only one tablespoon on an empty stomach. Just mix the tbsp scoop with a little water and lemon juice for taste while stirring it up until it dissolves. Knock it back in one shot and chase it with something like cirtius fruit or something of that sort. Kratom works on opioid receptors as well, so if you take it regularly just understand that it may be habit forming, but it is nothing like morphine or even the drugs you mentioned in terms of potency. Happy Hippo (search it online) is another brand, and they will even ship you a free sample straight to your door (I’m not affiliated with them). The two sources I just shared are valid and I stand by them. Godspeed

just go to a methadone clinic (or a suboxone clinic) and say you’re addicted and buying percocet off the street. you’ll get more opioids than you know what to do with without any hassles like that.

you’ll will be branded an addict which means they’ll never prescribe you pain meds again….but they don’t prescribe them to anybody for anything no matter how bad it is anymore so it’s not like it matters if you have that you’re an addict or not in your medical chart.

also be aware that methadone and suboxone are highly physically dependency forming so you will get stuck on it and not be able to stop unless you go through a nasty withdrawal which at your age could be a problem.

but if it’s really going to help your quality of life just get on on methadone or suboxone

that’s how america works now. only drug addicts get prescribed opioids because drug addicts do too much opioids (makes a lot of sense huh?)
