Hello
@Chaurus my Nederlander friend.
If you´re talking about the route of administration, specifically the ¨Hot Rail¨, I don´t believe there is any additive danger when compared to say, insufflating the drug. This is all hypothetical as there is not a ton of good information regarding hot-railing. However, I feel I know enough to make a comment.
For anyone who doesn´t know, a ¨Hot Rail¨ involves heating a glass or metal pipe/tube then sticking one end of the tube in your nose, applying the super-heated end to a quantity of drugs and then doing a hybrid intranasal/pulmonary administration.
Methamphetamine, as substances go, is pretty caustic to soft tissue. It´s not the same as Cocaine, which as a Vasoconstrictor will literally kill soft tissue through absence of blood flow. It is still a relatively caustic substance as evidenced by the severe burn that accompanies intranasal usage.
Given what we know about Methamphetamine, I would wager that a ¨Hot Rail¨ is likely LESS DAMAGING to the nasal mucosa than insufflation. When insufflated, you have a bolus of dry powder that sticks to the mucosa and then must be absorbed into the mucous and then transported through osmosis. This means you have more of the substance, likely applying to a smaller surface area (vapor is likely to cover more surface area in a more uniform manner), hence, that caustic quality is then more potent on a given area due to a greater density of the substance.
With that being said, I´m not familiar with Methamphetamine specifically affecting one´s ability to smell. I´m sure it can be damaging and I´m sure people have experienced damage from using Methamphetamine nasally.
