Will i see a decent government before i die?

So they are all ok then the ppl on the boats?

Maybe, maybe not. Probably not n all likelihood.

About a quarter (from memory - feel free to factcheck me) get deported. The rest are accepted - after extensive (often years of) investigation - as legit asylum seekers.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that small boats represent low single digits percentage-wise in terms of overall immigration.

The right wing press and parties are selling you a canard.

Still a very strange and illegal way to come to this country. France must be shit if they wanna leave.

Stopping the boats would be a good thing to do.. right wing or not.

Firstly, France is always gonna be France so inherently shit ;)

More seriously, Continental Europe take vastly more asylum seekers than Britain does. So many more there’s really no comparison.

Many asylum seekers have ties to Britain whether familial or through colonial exploitation. Such people have zero reason to seek refuge in Continental Europe.

And, once again, it’s literally not illegal to travel here via irregular means (such as small boats) and claim asylum. That’s precisely what seeking asylum looks like. And, for a final time, it’s 100% legal.

Stopping the boats would be a good thing to do.. right wing or not.

Having a much safer route would obviously be preferable, but that would take a radical shift in immigration policy. A shift only conceivable under a left wing government if I’m honest.

Strange hill to die on. It's quite obviously not legal

The deed is done and I voted Green.

Saw my first open members of Reform outside the polling station wearing their rosettes. They didn't even bother with me.

Green are likely to win by a decent margin. The way I see it, the bigger the margin the bigger the message to Reform. I might never vote Green again, but tactics are tactics and pragmatism is pragmatism.

Green Party candidate Hannah Spencer exposed as £1.2million property-hoarding hypocrite.

The Gorton and Denton by-election hopeful owns a lucrative £1.2 million real estate portfolio, including a £736,000 second home bought in August 2024.

She publicly slams second homeowners for "hoarding" properties and rails against landlords, while her party demands the abolition of private renting and aggressive rent controls.

Spencer bought her first home at 24 with help from her mother and has boasted online about outbidding first-time buyers and flipping properties for profit.

Peak champagne socialism: preach equality and revolution while quietly stacking a property empire most Brits could only dream of.

I think some of that info is a little distorted. She worked for Southway Housing Trust incidentally - some of the tribunal info is online. She wasn't always a plumber. But for an alleged property magnate she was doing quite a low level job.

No illusions about Hannah; I just don't fancy having Matty Goodwin at the wheel.

EDIT: Stepping outside the Daily Mail etc. into the land of truth, it looks like her partner bought an uninhabitable house and her name was tied to it. They then split up. So the value of the second property (which isn't hers at all) is based on its potential rather than its current state, and she owns none of it.

Avoid greens at all costs. Despite the legalization of drugs being a good idea they are loonies on everything else

The fact she’s campaigning against owning more than one house and diesel cars, and will chastise anyone who does, when she does/has both is a little on the nose!

“Do as we say not as we do!”

Absolute joker 🤡

To be fair mate, you're describing every politician that has ever lived.

Bunch o' cunts, the lot of 'em.

I'll never vote again, even tactically.

It's a choice of joke or joke and we've voted Labour for 100 years.

A kick up the arse for them, and it stops Reform. Win/win for me.

Unless you can speak fluent French lol

There must be lots of smuggling rings using different methods for desperate people to enter UK. The Vietnamese who suffocated in the back of an abandoned lorry trailer, part of a Northern Irish smuggling ring has to be the tip of the iceberg.
When there's money to be made no questions asked persons without criminal backgrounds will always be tempted ,after all they may see them selves as a very small part in a bigger scheme

I think these stories and angles seeking to undermine the Green party's candidate's 'working class credentials', have come either from the Labour Party or Reform.

If that's the worst they could unearth about her, that she may not be as 'working class', or 'from the people', as initial impressions might have suggested, then I'll take that, and as politicians go, that really is not so bad at all.

I must admit when I heard her speak, I wasn't convinced about her background. But a Green victory never the less, would definitely be the best option. Keeps the loony far right out, and would give Starmer plenty of cause for concern.

Hopefully it would mark the beginning of the end for the slimy, extremist, authoritarian, and control freak, piece of work, that he truly is.

Does anyone actually believe the ban on new petrol and diesel cars will actually take affect in 2030?(if the date hasn't been changed)
Hybrids are exempt as far as im aware (and having one ourselves there no more than a gimmick)
I don't work in renewables but as far as I can gather cheaper electric rates are available through the night (off peak) which means everyone I know who charges there car also has fires up there washing machine ,dishwasher and tumble dryer and any thing else of benefit while sleeping
Apart from being a fire risk it turns off peak to on peak
