This was an absolutely wild experience; honestly, more people should give it a shot. I started by finding a WIM HOFF breathing video on YouTube and cranked it to 2x speed because why not push it for maximum effect? I sat down, straightened my back, and began the breathing: in deep, filling every part of my lungs, then out forcefully and rapidly, letting the rhythm take over. After a solid two minutes of this, my body started reacting in ways I wasn’t expecting—there was a full-body tingling that spread from my fingertips to my toes, like tiny electric currents dancing just beneath the skin.
The video instructed the next step: hold your breath for as long as possible. I took a deep final inhale and held it, feeling the oxygen saturate my blood more than usual. Surprisingly, I managed to hold it for three full minutes. During this breath hold, a deep warmth began to settle in my chest and radiate outward, merging with the tingling already coursing through me. My mind felt simultaneously alert yet absurdly relaxed, like my body had reached this weird sweet spot of total calm and stimulation at once.
After releasing the breath, I noticed a lingering afterglow: a lightness, almost euphoric, where the usual stress and tension of the day had melted away. It wasn’t like any high I’d experienced from traditional substances; it was sharper, cleaner, and somehow more organic. Honestly, it gave sensations that I could compare to a small dose of oxycodone or even a tiny Xanax buzz—but without any of the sluggish side effects or foggy feeling.
I would fully, 100% recommend trying this method at least once. Even if you’re skeptical, the combination of deep, forced breathing and extended breath holding seems to unlock a unique state of mind-body awareness. The tingling, the warmth, the calm energy—it’s an experience that feels almost like a natural “drug,” and it’s definitely worth exploring if you’re curious about pushing your own limits in a controlled, safe way.

I feel like this is similar to auto-erotic asphyxiation?
no theres a difference because autoerotic asphyxiation is stopping blood and oxygen to the brain, while this is overloading oxygen to the brain. You should try Wim Hof breathing, its what I call getting high on your own supply, and it's perfectly healthy. It even helps fight off immune infections

Is it not stopping oxygen flow to your brain by purposefully hyperventilating and then hold your breath for 3 minutes?

srry for using chatgpt but this seems on par with what iv researched myself "
Ah yeah, I got you—people sometimes get them confused because both involve messing with oxygen and CO₂ levels in your body, but the vibe and mechanics are totally different.

So here’s the breakdown:

Wim Hof breathing is basically: deep, rhythmic inhalations followed by controlled exhalations and breath holds. The goal is boosting oxygen saturation, triggering adrenaline, and sometimes getting those tingles or mild euphoria. It’s done intentionally, usually for health, meditation, or spiritual reasons, and the breath holds aren’t meant to be extreme—they’re stopped before passing out.

Autoerotic asphyxiation (AEA) is way different: the primary goal is sexual arousal, and it involves intentionally restricting oxygen to the brain—usually via choking or suffocating methods. The risk is extreme, including accidental death, because the oxygen cut-off is unsafe and uncontrolled.

Key differences:

  • Intent: Wim Hof = wellness / alertness / mental state. AEA = sexual arousal.
  • Control: Wim Hof = you stop before danger, body cues guide you. AEA = usually pushing limits to reach euphoria, often ignoring safe signals.
  • Method: Wim Hof = deep breathing + voluntary breath holds. AEA = external or forced restriction of airflow."

Didn't you say you put it on 2x speed? You know that doesnt make you 'breath more' (well I suppose by mean amount of breaths), it actually alters the 'wim hoff' method at its core, and reduces it to just hyperventilating. Im also not trying to be a dick, but that seems like pushing a limit to reach euphoria, and also I wasnt saying that it IS AEA. I said I felt like your version was similar. And I still do. People can have opinions. Also, buddy, you quoted chatGPT. If you cant make your own arguments, youve lost the argument. And I wasnt even arguing until you got defensive.

dw ur not being a dick im just a fan of this teqniqe but the 2x speed part might make a little less healthy. theres sources in the description of this yt video srry if im not the best at presenting evidence as i didnt get a good education

Wim Hof is not overloading oxygen, a Hyperbaric Oxygen chamber is the only way to. You breathe pure oxygen while laying in a pressurized chamber for 1 hour. (Besides healthy people tend to have a blood saturation of 95 - 100% oxygen)

Guess what you feel? Nothing… Unfortunately overloading oxygen doesnt ”feel” like anything at all.

The studies on Wim Hof show that it first causes an increase in oxygen and expelling of CO2 followed by a state of Hypoxia. The tingle youre feeling is likely the rapid drop in blood oxygen + changes in blood pressure. (It feels nearly identical to the fainting game some know from childhood where you hyperventilate fast and stand up quick causing a rapid drop in intra-cranial blood pressure).
