I’ve been taking Bupropion for 6 months and recently been taking more and more everyday along with 6 cups of coffee because it enhances the effects. Everyone everywhere says this shit causes seizures, so I need to stop but I fucking can’t. I’m worried if I do worse things will happen. Anyway. Someone tell me what else I can take to feel better and still function well on? I need some help here. I don’t want to have a fucking seizure but I really like the stimulant and trance like effects it’s having in me. Generally happy a lot. I am up to 750mg today. It seems like 1000mg is where I see people having seizures and really bad effects. Help me out people.

What do you take it for?

pls do not exceed teh recommended dose of bupropion which i think is usually 300mg a day but up to 450mg for some cases iirc

the only other antidepressant i found that worked for me was desvenlafaxine (pristiq), i'm a big fan

I take it for “depression” although I’m not really depressed. I started it to help stop drinking along with naltrexone. Now 6 months later I’m chasing that euphoric feeling I used to get when taking it and drinking coffee.

Yeah, I wish I could stop doing that, but I can’t. Thats why I need to replace it with something. Should I try the SSRIs? My doctor gave me some of those too.

@lostsoulforgood SSRIs feel way different than this one. I took Wellbutrin/buproprion, I abused it too, would snort 1500mg a night at the worst of it.

It's sort of like a mild ADHD medication off label, if you have ADHD id consider getting evaluated maybe? What do you think. These days there are even "non stimulant" stimulants like Strattera, this one works on norepinephrine too, maybe speak to the doctor

Wow

Wow, that’s a lot. Did you have seizures?

I could get evaluated for ADHD. Maybe that’s my problem

Some "pro drugs" like adrafinil people say are okay too. But I don't want to go too far down the road of advising-more-drugs-to-help-with-the-first-drug, type of conversation.

I didn't have seizures no but I absolutely do not recommend flirting with that because it does lower the seizure threshold like you alluded to. Especially when combined with alcohol which lowers it even more.

What did happen though, is sometimes I felt like passing out, which I researched may have been an early warning sign of a heart issue.

I’m up to 600mg again today and it’s only 1PM. I hope I can hold out and keep it 750mg today.

I’m so disgusted with myself. I have addiction issues, and I can’t even fucking take anti-depressants without abusing them. There is literally no drug I won’t abuse.

I’ve been through so much childhood trauma and it all resurfaced due to a trigger a month ago. I can’t stand how I feel off meds and now I can’t take meds without taking too much. I literally dont know what to do.

It's not you that is the issue.

I'm not sure what to say at the moment that would be helpful, but you are not alone.

There are other ways to achieve what you need to address the emotional need. Those ways will be clearer when your mind isn't under the influence. Not to say 100% sobriety is the solution, maybe it's not for everyone, but every morning you wake up sober so it's smart to learn how to navigate things under those normal conditions.

Well, two months later and I’m still abusing this shit except now I’m snorting it and killing my sinuses. I had sinusitis for a week from this stuff. There’s got to be a better way to get high than snorting this crap. My sinuses are constantly irritated. I snort between 150 and 1000mg per day depending on how much I can get. The medicine is hidden from me now in hopes that will help me not abuse it, but I just find it or find some contrave and snort that instead.

My sinuses are dying. I can’t fucking live this way. Quitting is not an option. There’s got to be a better way to take this that gets the dose in quickly so I get high, or something better to take that isn’t going to tear my nose apart.

I once traded wellbutrin to a guy for norther lights. Had never seen anyone abuse wellbutrin before lol. It's really dangerous to go over the recommended dose and ya your going to kill your sinuses

750mg plus a ton of coffee is already way past “messing around” territory. I wouldn’t be looking for a replacement high right now, I’d be getting medical advice fast because the seizure risk is real.

Yeah it's difficult to hear that this happened. And the risks are real. Just so you know, i hadn't abused it for a long period of time - you absolutely will mess up your nose, and seizure risk you've been doing it for a long time.

I’m down to chewing 450mg a day and holding it in my mouth as long as I can. Not nearly as good as snorting it but my sinuses couldn’t take it any more. I don’t know how people get addicted to coke. It must be easier on your nose than this stuff.

Anyway, this is manageable now and I’m at least down to the highest prescription dosage. Hopefully I can stay there.

Great job that's really good to hear.

How are your daily activities going? It is always difficult for me to quit when I don't have a good reason to. Hoping that there is some type of goal or something to look forward to that doesn't require the drug?

Tell your doctor the medication was very helpful originally but your noticing some weird cognitive impairment, forgetting, during speaking you can’t find the word strangly

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) have VERY prominent anti-choline properties……Acetylcholine is the “learning neurotransmitter “ and is absolutely ESSENTIAL

At a walk-in clinic the physician said this is common with Bupropion and Suggested low dose XR extended release formula of Methylphenidate HCL (Ritalin) it occupies more than 50% of dopamine transporter DAT & NET norepinephrine

As while Bupropion is mostly norepinephrine reuptake inhibition…..with negligible effects of dopamine DAT …..maximum is approximately 23% which is NOT ENOUGH……nowhere near enough

Ritalin (Methylphenidate) XR is a VERY safe & effective dopaminergic mild stimulant she prescribes to all her patients and she told you to ask you (your family physician) about exploring low therapeutic doses of Methylphenidate XR

Said like this…..your doctor will gladly write a script

I was on Bupropion 150-300mg XR for years……..after Biphentin (Ritalin XR) I NEVER looked back……a TRUE stimulant and is very safe regarding its lack of increase in HR & BP

Ritalin releasing 3-4X more Dopamine over Norepinephrine wth amazing cardiovascular safety profile

that seems very helpful, and yes when I take a bunch of it I do feel a bit foggy headed and forget what I did earlier in the day, so it’s actually true

Unfortunately I started snorting it again, but this time only using one nostril so I can keep breathing through the other one. Mostly only 300 to 450 though, with a few exceptions.
