As the moderator I have to say some of you are way more experienced in various aspects of sex than I am. Therefore because of lack of knowledge and experience I may not comment on every topic regarding sex, however, I do know about love and relationships, what is healthy and what is not in terms of equality and respect. Not all relationships are good and sometimes we are conditioned to make the same mistakes over again in the people we choose to associate with. We are social beings and if and when you find your soulmate treat them with the respect that is deserving to you. Love is power, the more you give away, the more love grows within you. Having the ability to love yourself unconditionally lends knowledge and understanding about yourself and your role in life. If you are meant to share your life with another person, your relationship with that person will be enriched beyond your wildest dreams.
Growing up as a southern baptist preacher's kid, self-love was never discussed or even thought of by me, in fact, I think it was frowned upon according to message I got growing up. First and foremost I was to love god, Jesus, the bible and the Holy Ghost, because god created me and I had to be grateful for that. Jesus saved me, so I owed my life to Jesus, the bible was god's word and instructions to live by, and the Holy Ghost which was god inside of me guiding me through life.
Self love was not in the equation, it was not taught, it was not spoken and it did not exist until later in life. I believe knowledge and awareness comes to us as individuals differently than others according to experience that is available to us. My childhood upbringing revolved around the church and its teachings. There is no mention about loving yourself or who you are in the bible. On the contrary, Christians are to be like Jesus and the mere thought of putting yourself above Jesus was heresy..
Here is the truth, loving yourself, all of yourself, good, bad and indifferent allows you to accept who you truly are. When you know yourself inside and out, you can choose who and what you want to be. I wish I had learned this at a younger age when my choices could have been more productive, but that often seems the case when you are older.
If you love yourself you know how to love life and everything life has to offer. Love is the key to everything worth having.
