Hey all! Imma keep this one short.

A friend and I have recently come into ownership of an old PAX Gen 1 vape that isn't functional. Talking to the previous owner they said it has an error that indicates it cannot be fixed, even by the manufacturer. So me and my friend being who we are we're in looking to take it apart and see if we can't fix it ourselves.

Only issue is I can't find anything about the internals of the device itself, at least not through a cursory glance at plooms website and some other sources. All I can find is a basic instruction manual but nothing else.

So that leaves me to ask if anyone else has experience taking these things apart and have any advice on working on the internals? Or possibly have a diagram of the interior so my friend and I aren't going in blind? It'd be pretty rad if anyone does.

Thanks ❤️

No I don't. But I have a pax 3 and a couple years after the mouthpiece cracked and they sent me a whole new setup.
They have a good warranty so maybe try emailing them

Hey man! So.... I couldn't find what you were looking for. I'm not sure if such a manual exists, but Google AI is a fuckin' champ sometimes and tries it's hardest.

I put a couple of searches up, the refined one ended up being a google search for "Pax gen 1 vaporizer is there a manual online for the interior"

It responded with:

While there is no official "interior assembly manual" published by PAX for the Generation 1 vaporizer (often referred to as the PAX 1 by Ploom), community teardown guides exist for understanding its internal components.
Internal Component Overview (PAX 1)
According to teardown reports, the Pax 1 interior is designed with high complexity to fit into a small space. Key internal components include:
  • Three-Layered Circuit Board: A complex, integrated board controlling the device.
  • Microcontroller: Manages all functions.
  • Accelerometer/Motion Sensor: Detects movement to manage auto-standby and heating.
  • Reed Switch: Detects the position of the mouthpiece.
  • Serpentine Heater: Laminated in heat-resistant plastic tape.
  • Thermistor: A surface-mounted temperature sensor.
  • Battery: A 18650-sized lithium-ion cell.
Disassembly Guidelines (For Repair/Battery Replacement)
If you are looking to open the device to replace the battery, the following steps are generally used:
  1. Remove External Parts: Remove the oven lid and the silicone mouthpiece.
  2. Remove T4 Torx Screw: Locate and remove the single T4 Torx screw at the back of the unit.
  3. Slide Off Cover: The outer metal casing slides off towards the mouthpiece end, but it is typically very tight.
  4. Internal Access: Removing the cover reveals the internal plastic structure, battery, and circuit board.
Important Safety Warning
  • Discontinued Device: The PAX 1 is long discontinued, and opening it may permanently damage the unit.
  • Battery Danger: Do not attempt to change the battery unless you are experienced with soldering and lithium-ion cells, as the internal components are fragile and densely packed.
  • Cleaning: For regular maintenance, it is recommended to only clean the vapor path, oven, and screen with isopropyl alcohol and pipe cleaners, not by opening the unit.

I'm not sure if that's helpful at all, but best of luck! This next link is a teardown of the Pax Era. Not quite the same as a gen1 PAX, but.... idk, maybe checking it out could help you find the one you need:
