One day I was extremely bored and frustrated that my regular dose of bupropion wasn’t doing much anymore. On impulse, I decided to take a massive dose—around 1 gram.
After waiting a while for it to kick in, I started feeling noticeably off. My thinking felt slower and “stupider” than usual, and colors became unusually bright and saturated. It wasn’t euphoric, but it was definitely altered.
Not long after, my dad texted me reminding me that we were going to Dave & Buster’s, which I had completely forgotten about. I got in the car with him, and at that point I realized how impaired I was. Talking felt difficult, my speech was slightly slurred, and I kept saying dumb or awkward things. It felt similar to being high on weed, but distinctly different—more disorienting and less relaxing.
When we arrived, walking felt strange too. My balance was a bit off, like I’d had a few drinks—not drunk, but definitely not sober. Inside, my dad went to the bar while I loaded $50 onto a game card and went off to play
While I was in the back area playing games, the effects intensified. I became very disoriented and confused, and walking started to feel harder. I was worried about looking obviously intoxicated, so I tried to “lock in” and act normal.
At one point, I was so out of it that I started following random people, thinking they were my dad. Looking back, that could have gone badly, but no one noticed and I eventually snapped out of it.
After a while, I adapted to the headspace and things became more manageable. I was able to keep playing games without too much trouble. When my card ran out, my dad and I went home without any issues.
I came down a few hours later with no major aftereffects.
Overall, despite the confusion and the potential trouble I could have gotten into, the experience was surprisingly enjoyable. That said, the dose was excessive and risky. I wouldn’t recommend anything close to this—especially as a starting point. Being on the heavier side may have influenced my tolerance, but that’s not a reason to push doses this far.
