If you didn't already know, there is a story that the vasodilatory action of nitrate esters was discovered after it was noted that munitions workers were experiencing unexplained syncope (fainting) and that was discovered to be postural hypotension i.e. people would stand up suddenly... and fall over and in turn that was shown to be the nitroglycerin.
On reflection, I think Lamical may deflagrate rather than detonate. But it has always seemed a bit odd to me that a chemical (after all, drugs are just a subset of chemicals) that is produced at large scales isn't required to go through any testing or even calculations to just check that there isn't a potential risk.
I mean, we have seen some really serious accidents because someone tested a chemical at bench-scale and just assumed that the data would apply at the tonne scale. T2, Serveso and so on.
