I know someone who brews his own and using superyeast (which results in fusel alxohols) which tastes awful... until it's distilled several times. Poteen the proper way.

Currently drinking Vocation Brewery Life & Death IPA. Good shit 
I used to distill my own moonshine - similar ABV - but honestly found it kinda smooth taken neat. Obviously in relatively small measures… honest
Oddly enough we used to use Frostys to bulk out whatever subpar homebrew we had to hand to distill. Was very cost efficient BITD
Oh, and on the absinthe thing, I once (around the time absinthe was reintroduced to the UK) spunked an entire giro on a bottle of good quality absinthe and a bottle of Midori as a mixer (was what the guy in Vicky Wines recommended…).
Can’t say it was worth it but lawdy did we have a pleasant day
Well worth it IMHO
72% ABV / 144% Proof & UK Based.
A bit of this with Mountian Dew or Dr Pepper is amazing, the Tough Nut one is only 25% ABV but can be drunk neat, I don't suggest you drink 72% ABV raw as it will make you cough a little bit.

Fuck sugar, the French one Pernod = bullshit.
40 % max is what mucious membranes tolerate, dilute is not for fun.
The turning milky greenish, just a side effect of the Anise and water.
Real Absithe should be clear, with a faint hue of green fairy.
But these are not made anymore, only found in old castle s,
or on the bottom of the sea.

I got more rum yesterday and had drunken mental health problems so poured last of my rum down the drain and have vowed to stop drinking so much, in fact will try and stop alcohol consumption full stop same as stopped using crack,!

Well I woke up this morning and grabbed my self a beer ,cos it was the only cold thing in the fridge and I had a thirst like the devil .that's my day ruined. Its a Turkish draught beer in a bottle ? Called fici made by tuborg ,its going down a treat the wife's not up yet and there 2 more left

Oh well, I didn't get rum today but got 70cl of Aldi Irish cream 12% abv, and going to try and make it last, at least I have got a less alcohol strength drink compared to my usual

Yh, it's not expensive but I don't want to be paying a fortune of food money on expensive drinks for the same'ish effect, Irish cream mellows me and last time I had rum I was fucked and was chatting shit and complete bollocks to my neighbours down the road instead of chilling in my flat hence why I poured the last of my rum down the sink and will cut down booze totally, by getting less strong drink and drinking less with plenty of breaks in-between

That's a good thing that you can function I believe as I can't manage to anything other than dribble and shout at non-exisint people or people from years ago and definitely could not even wire a three pin electric plug after a drink

Weirdly you can perfectly legally buy wormwood from fancy herbalists, so it's not illegal, but I think it's banned or at least removed from the absinthe you can buy in the UK.
I guess if you knew what you were doing you could create your own proper wormwood absinthe.
Poppy Brite writes a lot about Wormwood in her horror books set in New Orleans. I'll have to revisit these books as I remember enjoying them.
