Cannabis for insomnia study.

40 mgs edible cbd had me nodding out at work. Seriously, was almost falling asleep at work, which never happens. Would not recommend this dose cbd while working. Made staying awake somewhat difficult when it was at its peak.

How does cbd affect the rem sleep cycle?
Afaik and experience it Weed has no noticeable negative effect on sleep fazes.
Which is often mentioned, THC a.o. prevents dream s, untrue imo.
But they minimal bad dreams ime. Don t put me to sleep, but better it.

Hydrogenate CBD, like Margarine. HHC is created. Better HHC-p [stronger].
Which ime acted as a great inducer of sleep, taken orally.

Makes you slightly high too.

I do think that cannabis, THC in particular, does suppress dreams

without diving into the literature I can offer an N=1 experience

I've used cannabis for more than half of my life now, with periods of no cannabinoids for months+. I have experienced that edibles suppress dreams throughout the night and sometimes I woke up foggy if I dosed too high and too close to bed. when vaping, I've found dreams return later in sleep without vaping again in the night.

I have also had a sleep study done with EEG, I dosed a small edible for my tolerance about 4 hours before. the nurse monitoring me asked if I usually sleep when I got up for the bathroom around 1-2 hours in because they didn't see it on the EEG. Later on they remarked that they started noticing dreaming after some time

Sleep in 2025 is basically a competitive sport. Between stress, screens, and supplements that backfire, it's no wonder people are experimenting with cannabis again like it’s a new discovery.

Personally, THC-heavy strains knock me out better than anything over-the-counter. But not everyone wants to deal with being high, especially night after night. That’s where balanced blends or targeted cannabinoids like CBN come in, and yeah, they’re still hard to find in some places, especially if you want quality.

If full THC feels too much but CBD alone feels like a placebo, I’d say give broad-spectrum blends a shot. Companies like Joy Organics offer clean, THC-free products that still include other cannabinoids, which might help your system chill out without spinning out. No magic bullets, but sometimes just dialing down the noise a little is enough to get the wheels to stop turning.

I imagine it depends on the brain chemistry but I could not sleep in the 90s. (and there were reasons for that too, hockey than school mainly). THC has been a must for sleep my whole life tbh I just didn't discover till whenever and never slept well before that. Than probation led to benzos which once you are on long-term real tough to just drop. Never would have needed them if they didn't take me pot away. This is all highly anectdotal again - but also absolutely my experience beyond any chance of placebo

I can also promise cannabis inhibits dreams at least for me. The nightmares on probation were very constant and real feeling --- and no it wasn't cannabis detox lol maybe the first couple weeks you could claim that but not 7-8 months in. Again just speaking for me.

the dream suppression seems to be similar to that of SSRIs, I suspect there's some sort of circuit-level mechanism overlap between SSRIs and THC

night sweats and intense dreams were common for me with withdrawal from both

I can't say whether that means SSRIs would help with sleep similarly to THC or not because that may not be the circuits impacted here involved I dreaming

but it could also be downstream effects on NE. both THC and SSRIs modulate the NE neurons which has an impact on wake state iirc. but also serotonergic neurons are involved in that among other circuits

Like Alcohol, and caffeine, cannabis can effect the most restorative cycle of sleep, rapid eye movement sleep. If consumed earlier in the day, it seems to not affect rem sleep so much or even at all.
