Hi bluelighters and bluelets

Quick question: with no tolerance at all to Alprazolam could a person take it without it losing it's anxiolytic effect?

I spose it would depend on age, weight, sex etc wouldn't it or no?

Benzos start to lose their effectiveness after about a month of daily use.

Do NOT take 6mg per day! With zero tolerance you shouldn't take more than .5mg per day at first. 6mg is a ridiculous dose and will leave you with horrible rebound and dependence after just a couple weeks.

Yes but when I was first prescribed them I had no tolerance and I was started on .5mg per day and it gave me no relief at all.

I'll try 3mg.

there's absolutely no situation on earth where you want to have your body taking benzos everyday, the withdrawal can kill you amongst other things (the tip of my right toe is numb because of benzo nerve damage, along with nearly dying from wd)

Trust me, you want to take the lowest effective dose. The rebound from 3mg is killer. When you stop, your anxiety will be worse than it was before you started taking it. This will lead to dependence. This will also quickly jack up your tolerance, making them less effective more quickly.

And trust me, you do not want to be dependent on high dose benzos. The withdrawals are worse than heroin. (And 3mg is a VERY high dose).

Try 1mg... there's no need to jump all the way to 3mg. That's reckless.

true. i remember coming off 3 mg flualp / 2 mg clonazolam daily and could feel my heart stop for a microsecond every now and again in the wd. truly terrifying

That's true when we talk about anxiety, insomnia and psych related stuff, benzos do indeed make things worse in the long run, but when we talk about physical conditions, rigid person regine, some kinds of epilepsis, muscle- skeletical evil activity ... you just need them.
I mean the kind of situation where you know that a benzo sudden cesation can kill you, but actually your condition isn't allowing you to live anyway

@Iwant_to_make_love_to_my_quack, just want to say I am fascinated by your username...lol.

Seriously though, can you see a pattern in the responses you are getting to your question?

Benzodiazepines are a chemical that you absolutely do not want to take lightly.

There are dozens, probably hundreds of members of this forum who have been to hell and back as a result of these drugs.

I would consider myself a benzodiazefiend myself and I can tell you they are to be treated with extreme caution.

Yes they can be very useful for anxiety/panic attack and for short term insomnia, and are certainly helpful for coming down from certain other substances, however they have very sharp teeth and if you aren't very careful they will rip you to shreds.

As previous posters have already mentioned, if 0.5mg didn't do what you needed them to do then try 1mg, don't just jump straight to 3mg, and 6mg would generally render someone with no tolerance to alprazolam completely zombified.
For myself, I find the sedating effect is the first thing to go when my tolerance is building, I still continue to get anxiety relief.

Anyway I feel I am rambling and just repeating what others have already said, please be very careful and if you need to increase your dose then do it in small steps and make every effort to not end up in a place where you are dependant on them to get through the day.

A bit of googling will find heaps of scary information regarding these meds, there are people who have done damage that may never be fully rectified.

Withdrawl from benzos can actually be fatal and even if it isn't it is 100% one of the worst withdrawls of all substances.

And sorry, I continue to ramble...I don't usually start my day with coffee and coke..

I can't actually remember what your original question was...something about tolerance...if you use any substance regularly and continue to incrase the dose you will build tolerance and said substance will have less affect that is the definition of tolerance.

I always get confused about the correct use of the words effect and affect...so anyway please be careful.

Yes, alcohol will have an impact. It is best that you avoid drinking one beer with any amount of alprazolam.

Serious? Just ONE beer?

Combining depressants isn't like regular math, where 1 + 1 = 2, sometimes it's more like multiplication, with a few extra on top. (Yes I realize 1x1=1, but ykwim lol). And especially in regards to the actual physiological aspects, respiratory depression and the like, those thresholds get lowered dramatically with substance stacking, and yes, even just one beer. My first time eating Xanax I only had .5mg... with some Crown Royal. I looked at the clock, looked at the curtain, blinked, looked at the clock again and four hours had past. Tread lightly, and with respect.

Benzos are very deceptive and they give no warning when approaching "too much" enters the chat. Benzos could be one of the worst drugs to mix with other drugs. Benzos can also be one of the worst drugs to take if you are not "regularly" seeing a doctor and you are very sure there are not underlying existing health conditions.

In most medical diagnosis, taking them more than 3-4 times weekly provides less relief for the underlying condition being treated.
