Pope Francis dies at age 88

clearly jd vance killed him to move the news cycle off of trump disastrous economic policies! why is nobody talking about this?

the producers of the oscar-nominated movie conclave timed it well :)

alasdair
That's a pretty ironic statement ... especially since Vance had a private meeting with Francis the very day before he died. I really expected a more educated and nuanced comment from you Alasdair.

Pope Francis died on Easter Monday, at age 88 in the Vatican City. In about nineteen days the Cardinals will begin the process of choosing the next Pope, which typically takes two to three weeks.

I'm not Roman Catholic but I was impressed with him. I'm sorry to see he passed away. I hope the Catholic Church finds someone to replace him who continues to show compassion for the gay community.

Amazing how he died right after Easter Sunday. 🙏
Thank you for your kindness of recollection and wonderful mention.
Appreciated. Oh and also for the thread that I thought you made but didn't.
Very nice though. You have such kind and amazing posts as it goes anyway.

thanks Cheshire-Kat as well.
Take care, always. <3

This is so ... well done. Really nice. April 21'st footage. Amazing.

I have been to that Vatican before. It's just perfect.
It's strong.

edit : (wow)

@Cheshire_Kat please update the thread title to read "88".

I have been having to stop myself from posting a plethora of "material/content" that satirical outlets would have a "field day" with.

My condolences though.
❤️
A sad time indeed.

Ok I got the title correct. Yeah I too have been stopping myself but I think as long as it is not harming anyone.

I am not a Pope guy. But felt Pope Francis put aside some of the more draconian beliefs and judged less than a lot of Popes. RIP, I think within the framework he had he did move people forward. Saying that I understand the connections with the Catholic Church and politics. For anyone interested I recommend Medici on Netflix. It is not pure as driven snow that is for sure. But all the same it is an individual thing. There are good people and bad people period.

Satirical. A harmless funny. I remember on the SNL's from years ago. Father Guido Sarducci had an issue on how they had picked the current Pope after one of the Popes died quickly. Supposedly the new Pope had to perform 3 miracles. So he was upset at the Pope they had picked. He performed 3 miracles but two of them were card tricks.

but on a more serious note.
pope francis was argentinian, and my parents are currently surrounded by a lot of argentinians. they told me that they knew something was very wrong even before they knew what. apparently argentinians were very proud of their pope, even those who are not religious/christians/catholics

My father would have said “He’s not MY pope.” And is probably excited that a new pope must now be selected.

But I sure as hell admired him as a non-practicing Catholic. He helped to move the church away from the things that shunned me away from it in my youth. God forbid the pope advocate for human compassion.

I'm kinda cold on this because I'm basically detached from that world entirely. No idea what's going on on that side.
RIP regardless. Perhaps he did a lot for charity or something

The worlds most powerful political racket loses its public facing leader.

Not being facetious or attempting to provoke, this is genuinely my feeling. The RC Church disgusts me, and I'd wager it would utterly disgust Jesus too if he ever came back. These geriatric snakes live in a palace of gold in their own private city-state, while brainwashing the youth into feelings of shame and guilt that sucks the joy of life right out of them.

And I for one don't believe that a leopard can change its spots when it has spent centuries persecuting others, and I think all those towards the top, including the Pope's, are duplicitous in that regard. I'm sorry, but when I look at the faces and expressions of the Popes, the cardinals, the top Jesuit's, etc.. I do not see compassion, empathy, or spiritual awareness, I see the complete opposite etched into the lines of their faces and the subtle grimaces - I see the same with the British Royals - they look like gangsters who have done some disgusting shit to get where they are.

I agree. Although if the last Pope tried to make it a little better then it is a start. I guess. But the disgust was already there when Jesus was around. Pointed to them, called them hypocrites, and said "you say you know me but you don't". A lot of people go to church, act all high and mighty but then in their private moments show what they really are. A true Christian would acts the part all the time, not just in front of people.

Again Medici on Netflix is a great little series. 2nd and 3rd season was the best. A glimpse into how far the RC go to keep power and it is NOT pretty. I mean why would they be so tied in with the banks? Because banks and the RC are about money and power. Why else do they need gold chandeliers?

I have family that are true Catholics (or Christians I should say) and try hard to be decent. That is what counts.

Who was the first person to say "the Pope smokes dope"? I don't imagine it was John Lennon, I think he just used the phrase.

The pope is buried so we can all say whatever we want.
At least wait until the body is cold, right?
Everyone deserves the basic human dignity of death.

I am actually a long standing RC, but was definitely no fan of what he said or did.
May God have mercy on his soul, it is all beyond us now.

BTW there was a monk who lived during the Dark Ages who correctly predicted all the names of the Popes until the end. Francis was the last on the list.

Something to think about. Will it be the end of RC or the world.
Maybe neither.

Something to think about
