When I was on it, I felt like I was always sleeping and always tired, but I never actually got any quality sleep.mirtazapine has a lot of different pharmacological targets that render it much more effective sleep aid than selective h1-antagonists, EXCEPT if pro-adrenergic function via alpha-2-adrenergic receptor antagonism is so remarkable it nullifies knockout effect, which can actually happen, I have read some reports of people telling that mirtazapine actually decreases amount of sleep they get. But for most people no hydroxyzine or similar drug is as effective as mirtazapine.
15 mg causes in average 80 % occupancy in h1-receptors but ceiling for pro-adrenergic effect I described is much higher.I've used mirtazapine for sleep and it worked pretty well for that. Oddly enough, low doses are best for sleep. Higher doses tend to interfere with sleep patterns.
