I am on fent for chronic pain. The patches are not working. It is the lowest dosage. But the weird thing is they aren't working at all. Are they sometimes duds? I have tried them for over 3 days. And then put a new one on. I was on morphine before this. And opiate tolerant . I am worried I am just not on a strong enough dosage.
I don't feel anything at all. Do they take a long time to work? Also I was told they take a long time to work. I have a severe terminal illness. I just want to not feel this pain. It's horrific. Also does fen make your lips feel funny when they are getting into your system? Never experienced that on morphine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know not everyone here is on it for that reason. I don't judge anyone for any. Reason they are on it.
Just need some answers. From anyone who has ever done fentanyl

What’s the dose of morphine you were on and what were you switched to for fent dose?

Which patches matrix or gel pack?
I was on 60 mg of morphine. 30 mg twice a day.
I am not sure what you Mean by matrix or gel pack. The fentanyl patches are made by mylan pharmaceutical. If you could explain to me the difference. I appreciate. The fentanyl dosage I was switched to is 25 mcg

I'm on a higher dosage of morphine xr exactly double what your on plus 15 mg 4 times a day. i switched 120 xr to 25mcg patch plus 30 mg ir and i don't feel a damned thing

Where are you applying the patch?

You want to apply the patch to an area that isn’t very hairy where the skin is thin and ideally to a muscular part of the body not a fatty part, because muscle has the best blood flow and fat the worst. If you’re a man, that could be a place like the inside of your upper arm.

Were you feeling the morphine much before you switched to fentanyl?

Haven’t used the patch, but I’ve not found it particularly useful for pain. I have that problem with most opioids.
same. I still hurt so much i don't even get off the couch for nothing! AND I MEAN NOTHING!!! I HURT SO GOD DAMN BAD!!! I got my doc to let me try these patches because fentanyl is supposed to be so strong right???? fuck these patches its been almost 2 years with NO RELIEF!!!! I'm talking i actually put one on upside-down on accident because it was so dark in the room and i went 3 days before I figured out i accidentally stuck it to the waterproof bandaid instead of my skin. no withdrawing, no increased pain, NOTHING BUT MY AND EXCRUCIATING PAIN!!!!!! FUCK ME !!! Somebody send me to the neitherlands for human euthanasia!!!

My doctor told me to take them off the arm bc they weren't working and put it on fatty place. So I did. Neither one is working. I don't know what to do. I felt the morphine a bit before this. Definitely more than the fentanyl but I was puking them up due to my illnesses hence why we switched to patches

This makes me wonder if they even work or they are all duds now. I am so sorry

I would guess that you need a higher dose &/or it’s just not very effective for you. Can you get switched back to morphine? Do you want to be, or did they just put you on this because the morphine wasn’t enough but they didn’t want to give you more morphine?

the first time i tried morphine xr 30mg my mother-in-law gave me the pills.. what a great mother-in-law right :-) except the pills didn't seem to help a damn bit for my pain and that was before I'd ever started on any kind of pain meds. So I don't think morphine is right for me but the doctors won't listen and they've been making me take the same thing for like 15 years. I hurt so bad every fucking day and in fact the morphine seems to make my pain worse.

As far as the patch I started it on my upper arm but it didn't work it just seemed to fall off because of the movement of my arm. So I tried putting it on my upper chest and again it still didn't seem to help with my pain and seem to peel off. So I did some research and it said under the breast where it would get warmer it would release the medicine better and that actually helped because the underwire of my bra actually forced it against the skin and kept it from falling off. However I still didn't get very good relief from it there and it certainly didn't feel like the warm was making it release any better. I used it there for months before going to the doctor one month and complaining about it and the doctor wanted to see where I was putting it. Thank God I had rotated breasts and the doctor didn't see that I was leaving my old patches on instead of taking them off. Thankfully it was a nurse practitioner instead of the actual doctor that saw them because the doctor wanted a picture of how I was applying them. The doctor wanted me to put it on my arm but I told them no because it just came off and after looking at my skin they determined it was too fatty to put it on my chest. So the doctor decided to put it on my wrist where the skin was really thin. This hasn't helped the patch at all! I've even tried putting two patches on and I still didn't get relief. It's like bone pain at the end of range motion that is really sharp and stabby when I get to the end point of range of motion in my low back when I bend side to side.

That seems like an even switch to me but you mind find opiate dose converters on line.

I went from 60 mg oxy to 50 mcg patch and the patch was stronger.

Matrix patches (made by mylan) are just a uniform sticker while the gel packs are like a bag almost that contains a fent gel inside you can see. Gel packs are easily 30% weaker than the same dosage of matrix.

You can try lightly heating the patch if it’s matrix but it will run out faster and release fent faster

That's crazy. I wonder why you aren't feeling it.
I'm either immune or a poor metabolizer or Ultra metabolizer of morphine.. and either my pain is just so bad or it's because of my dealings with the morphine that the fentanyl just doesn't work. Or I'm on too high dosage of morphine that the fentanyl isn't enough

I don't think they put me on a strong enough dosage of the fentanyl patch to offset the morphine they took away. You do realize if they drug test you they can tell that you've been smoking the Fentanyl because it'll release different metabolites into your body. There are metabolites that they need with the drugs are metabolized into and from that they know what to look for basically a different chemical that they can see if you've been smoking the patches. I really don't do anything I'm not supposed to do because I'm too afraid of losing my medication.

My doctor told me the opposite he said not to put it on a fatty spot and according to what I've researched the fatty spots are the bad spots

I throw up my meds. I wasn't before. And it felt good on the morphine but than my disease went and progressed and now I can't keep them down. So after months of successful morphine usage I have to switch to something not being swallowed. Hence why we tried the fentanyl..I am limited now to thingsi don't have to take via mouth and swallow. But also the butt morphines weren't working either.
