US Politics the 2025 trump presidency thread

He’s just barely obese according to BMI and we don’t know his body fat percentage. I’m not claiming he’s a paragon of health, but he’s not obviously obese. And I am hugely lipophobic.

Yeah... no. I chubbed up pretty disgustingly during COVID. I put on 50 pounds before I got my shit together and over the course of the last year or so have gotten 40 of those back off so far... slower than I would have preferred, but whatever. I know exactly what it looks like to be "barely" on both sides of that 30 BMI readout. I have records in HealthKit that show me exactly when I pushed through that milestone and date/time-stamped photos of myself on and around those dates.

Unless he's for some reason wearing an inflatable girdle or suit jacket or something, and that gut is fake, he's obese.

What is his weight at 6'3"
“Trump’s 2019 physical reported his weight at 243 pounds with a height of 6’3”, placing his BMI at 30.4”

BMI can be wrong though because of not accounting for things like bone density, large muscle vs fat etc. According to BMI, I am always underweight but I have very delicate, light bones. It’s not perfect.

Considering he's 6'3" and how I know people of similar height look at varying levels of muscularity and adiposity from being in the fitness community for a decade, anyone that I've seen who doesn't work out, which we know Trump doesn't because of his ridiculous human battery idea, anyone who's 6'1"-6'4" would be 270+ very easily. Adipose tissue is far less dense than muscle and a person who is 6'4" with minimal muscle at 240 looks relatively skinny

I wish I could find a non-liberal source for this.

To me it seems INSANE to judge the leader of a nation based on such physical traits.

It appears that like many people of his age, he periodically makes a concerted effort to lose some weight. Like many people he may not be telling the truth about his weight but then I don't consider it to be an issue that would be important to anyone but him and those who care about his health.

If I'm honest, it's the way that Donald Trump's skin tone seems to fluctuate so much that is disconserting.

I include the above link purely because in the UK at least, many of the large bookmaker chains really were offering odds on what hue Donald Trump would be for his inauguration.

I don't hold it against anyone if they feel that makeup gives them increased confidence and makes them happier. It's in no way harming me and if if makes them happy, that can only be a good thing. But what has always confused me is that someone with so much wealth could surely afford an expert makeup artist? It just seems a bit odd that Donald Trump seems to believe we don't realize he is wearing makeup. It's not as if it's uncommon among public figures. I suggest that in the television era, most if not all previous US presidents employed makeup artists. Even members of the public who appear on quiz shows undergo at least some asthetic modifications.

But if someone is photographed multiple times every single day, it becomes painfully obvious that barring certain medical conditions*, it's simply not possible for someone's skin tone to change so much over such short periods of time. It just looks odd to me.

Now there was a famous British playwright called Dennis Potter who suffered from psoriasis for his entire life. The treatment at the time consisted of a drug that sensitized his skin in combination with a form of UV therapy. So his skin tone was always slightly unusual. I don't mention this out of malice but rather that I have to wonder why someone would apparently apply their own makeup without asking a third party if it matched and that it was consistant. I appreciate that it's unlikey Donald Trump has such a disorder but it just seems... well, odd. But I don't judge him on such a silly metric; it just concerns me slightly.

After all, surely if it was purely vanity, he WOULD ensure it was consistant? But then I don't wear makeup so I'm really not in a position to know.

*Vitiligo, Melasma, Addison's disease, dermatitis, Leukoderma, Psoriasis, pigmentation disorders and of course jaundice.

It looks like a fake DHA chemical tan to me - I know a guy who is obsessed with those and he looks very similar. It’s also very easy to misapply. I haven’t noticed huge changes in his skin tone, but I also haven’t looked at many pictures of him. I suspect that like my friend, he thinks it looks good, and he won’t listen to anyone around him who says otherwise. He is from that era of tan obsessed people.

I believe SOMEONE went to great lengths to work out when Donald Trump began to use makeup. There are a few photographs in which you can see his natural skin-tone and the line above which he had employed slap. Apparently he got into it through an aquaintance who owned a brand of makeup. So it's not DHA (to the best of my knowledge).

I'm almost certain you are right - there IS a generation for whom looking tanned equates with looking healthy. I'm not of that generation and so I'm aware that tanning is simply the skin protecting itself from harmful UV-B & UV-C rays. I am aware that it was the actor George Hammilton who made tanning popular among men. If I'm remembering correctly, it was Coco Channel who, long before colour films made tanning fashionable among ladies.

I'm pretty sure you are someone who would know WHY her nickname was 'Coco' and no, it's not because she was an ardent lover of soft drinks ;-)

Makeup is certainly a much safer option. In fact, it's quite possile that Donald Trump made the conscious decision not to go down the pathway of using drugs to produce a tan. Didn't the original chemical used turn out to be toxic? I'm almost sure that the term 'melanotan-2' turns up whenever such products are mentioned. That does rather suggest that there was a 'melanotan-1' but that seems MIA.

I don't look at Donald Trump and think 'oh how vain' because as I've noted, it's the rule rather than the exception for people in the public eye to use beauty products of some sort. It merely confounds me that he doesn't seem prepared to employ a professional. I totally understand that some people feel more confident while wearing their makeup but SURELY if the makeup was of a professional standard, we may well assume he uses it but soon nobody would think of it. It's that lack of consistency that just seems... badly advised.
