US Politics the 2025 trump presidency thread

we? who's we? i thought you were canadian?

alasdair

illuminati? Knights Templer? lizard space-alients that secretly contol all world events via the Rothchild dynasty?

or

'The deep state'? Pizzagate? Heaven's Gate?

You know, sooner or later there's bound to be a scandal surrounding a turnstile, port ot pylon. With my famous planning abilities, I've already begun writing copy bearing the headline 'Gategate'. I don't write topical articles any more. I simply invent a dystopian vision of the future, compose the work and patiently wait for it to align with reality.

We need to call all the crimes Musk is committing Elongate.

Genius!

Could be compramise? Possibly Fumigate? How about Billingsgate*? But surely Investigate is the most appropriate neologism?

✱A shabby disterict of London noted for 'Jack the Ripper', it's famous flea market & the fact that it smells of fish.

Well, Elon Musk is a very visible member of 'the elite' based on the authoritarian populism form of political power. It's not subtle because there is abosolutely no need to be subtle.

In Ancient Rome there were the patricians from whose members the senate were elected. Back then there was a financial element governing who could be a senator. In that case holdings of one million sestertii in the form of land. It's hard to calculate how much that would be in 2025 dollers since inflation was a perrnial problem for Romans. But if one considers coins merely as a vlue exchange mechanism, each silver coin weighted 1.125 grams i.e. 888 coins weighed a Kg. A Kg of gold is worth around £881 (as of now).

So that would more or less £1 million today. Now I'm sure folks in the US would laugh, but it would mean less than 20% of your population could theoretically enter the senate. In the UK we see more people who are mearly financially comfortable rather than rich entering politics.

Oh yeah, to be clear, Rome didn't have two houses. There was a sort of lower house but apparently ir's powers were verly lmited and corruption was rife.

I've read a number of works both fiction and non-fiction on the topic of life within the Roman empire. The more I read, the more I saw parallels with the US. The elite (aristocracy) essentially running everything in a manner openly designed to ensure they got richer while the majority, 'the people' got poorer.

I keep seeing a lot of posts on social media about Trumpers having regret over what he’s doing now. But I suspect it’s all left winger coping and Trumpers don’t actually feel any buyers remorse whatsoever.

I honestly can’t say if what trumps is doing is good or bad. Some of the things like trying to cut wasteful government spending for useless things seem great; but it seems like an axe rather than a scalpel is being used so many things getting the axe are essential for prevent massive scale suffering, economic collapse, and civil unrest.

It’s too soon for things to have totally disintegrated and fallen apart yet; but if it does; I really don’t see them ever conceding that Trump and musk are pieces of shit robbing America blind. These people are at their core not capable of self reflection or critique.

It’s frustrating to know that if things go bad; they will just dig their heels in harder rather than seeing the light and wishing to cooperate

You forgot to ass 'find a scapegoat because both are happy to take all the credit when things go well, refuse to accept any fault when things go wrong.

THAT should concern mepople. The absolute refusal to concede responsibility when their behaviors resulte in serious negative outcomes.

They truly are a different species. There is something wrong with them. It’s a mental illness that a huge segment of the population has.

The lack of humility, the inability to self reflect, the inability to empathize, the inability to feel remorse or regret, the inability to apologize. When you actually know some of these people in real life outside of politics; you see that this is how they are. They are sick

The craziest thing is that we usually find that mental illness occurs in a small % of the population. This is about 30 to 40% of the population.

Humans are vile.

Just these two canadian lab busts had 85 kilos of fentanyl

I don't care what the premise to enact tariffs is, we're gonna do it anyways and other countries will adjust
