Recovery AA speakers and listening material

Yea this is a good one. I’ve watched it a couple times over the last couple years.
Him and Steve-o are both very inspiring to me for getting sober. I'm not sure if you've kept up with the Jackass crew, but Bam is really bad and is probably never going to get sober, which sucks, because he got bad after Dunn died.

I kinda keep up with the drama regarding sobriety of that crew. They were heroes to me as a kid.

Yea they’re both inspiring to me too. I relate to Novak for sure because he tried so many times to get sober and relapsed so many times … so to see that after all that he was finally able to do it really inspires me.

& yea Bam’s really bad it’s sad, he definitely took Dunn’s passing really hard.

I was rooting for him for the last few years, watching the drama, but there was some video response Bam made in or something towards Novak that pissed me off beyond belief and made me lose most of the respect and hope I had left for Bam.

this one:

Not only is he wrong, this is so ugly to say to a former friend who is only trying to help him.

And Novak would still probably help him too.

Scott Redman is the best AA speaker I've ever listened to. He's naturally hilarious, succinct, and intelligent. It's so enjoyable to hear him speak.

RIP Scott. He died from liver cancer after 20+ years of sobriety.

There’s just something about this specific video for me (don’t know how to explain it).
I think I know what you mean. For me, it's how calm yet serious, and how 'matter of fact' he speaks. You can feel his conviction and total dedication. You can feel he truly wants to help others as well. It's motivating, not only what he literally says, but how he says it.

I've started reading this, got the audiobook first but felt like physically reading it instead. It's pretty damn good so far.

I've also fallen in love with my local library. Libraries are awesome. Reject modernity.

Listening material:

Telling myself I won't go there
Oh, but I know that I won't care
Tryna wash away all the blood I've spilt
This lust is a burden that we both share
Two sinners can't atone from a lone prayer
Souls tied, intertwined by our pride and guilt

There's darkness in the distance
From the way that I've been livin'
But I know I can't resist it

Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
You and I drink the poison from the same vine
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Hidin' all of our sins from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin' from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin' from the daylight
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time

Tellin' myself it's the last time
Can you spare any mercy that you might find
If I'm down on my knees again?
Deep down, way down, Lord, I try
Try to follow your light, but it's night time
Please, don't leave me in the end

There's darkness in the distance
I'm beggin' for forgiveness (ooh)
But I know I might resist it, oh

Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
You and I drink the poison from the same vine
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time
Hidin' all of our sins from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin' from the daylight
From the daylight, runnin' from the daylight
Oh, I love it and I hate it at the same time

So I finished reading this book. It's OK... 2.5/5, but I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone other than people who are new to recovery or are specifically interested in Jackass lore or learning details about Novak's life.

It's relatable, and mostly written sincerley by Novak himself, but the edits by the ghost writer were easy to spot. That's just my cynicism speaking.

It has some "A Million Little Pieces" vibes to it, but it is much more sincere and truthful like I said, and isn't so wax poetic as that book was.
