I liked study hall, could tolerate gym class and lunch( more in theory, than that horrible, less than prison grade food).
The best part of study hall was the fact that there was a really smart, cool black chick who would let me copy her home work.( chemistry 2 and all those tedious calculations and other subjects we had in common).
I have to say, that I was always an under achiever, yeah I had decent grades and got into a decent( state run) University.
I bet the reason for those STEM schools in Germany was because of all the smart jews, commies, and others that fled Germany, or were killed. Also America, gave jobs and new identies( I am not joking or making light of WW2) to surviving German scientists, engineers and other nerd types.
The Soviets did the same, except the nerds they caught given 2 options. Come work for us, or be shot.
It is hilarious that our entire space program is based primarily on the work of former German Scientist, Wernher von Braun. Also their is a picture of a German Scientist who worked on the V2, rocket program sitting between President JFK and vice President LBJ. He was in the early 60's the Director of Nasa( or if it had a predecessor).
