Unbearable Chest Pain, presumably related to benzos.

Hmmm... That almost sounds like Angina pectoris to me. And you said tingling in your lips ? That could be do to lack of oxgen or nerve damage. You probably need a benzo or something else like Amyl Nitrite.

Obviously tapering down with diazepam is your best bet, which I understand will be happening, so that’s awesome! I’m glad your doctor listened. That must be such a relief.

Has clonidine been mentioned?
I honestly swear by it. It helps with anxiety, sleep, and RLS. It also helped me through opioid withdrawal.
It’s a non addictive BP med, so it should be quite easy to get. In my opinion, it’s super underrated. Something to bring up with your doctor, if you choose :)

It’s crazy that you have to wait that long at the ER when you’re there for chest pains. Where I live, you still have to wait that long, or more lol, but.. they run some tests before you’re asked to go sit in a shitty chair for 3 years.

@Pickledlemons you were initially drawn to Xanax because it helped get rid of chest pains?
As in, the chest pains came before you started taking them?
Yes, well thats not exactly the entire story.

I once bought a very large amount of xanax back when I never really used it, this was 10 years ago maybe. So I just used it on occasion here and there, not really getting any recreational effect but still taking it if I was sick or needed to pass out - but yes I did notice it helped with my chest pressure which I remember existing as far back as I can remember.

But I had a pretty traumatic event on new years 2021 I think it was, and thats when occasional turned into daily use and thats also when I started vaping after being completely nicotine free for 10 years, and thats also when I starting doing other drugs like mushrooms and coke on occasion. Basically, I was so psychologically hurt by something that happened between me and some loved ones, that I just couldn't face it. So I'd be lying if I said it was all because of the chest pressure, but yes, that was ALWAYS a factor in my use.

Not sure if its relevant but I have a a very specific memory about 6 years ago, when I was out on the town one night, and wanted to get some coke, but couldn't find any, so settled for some crack. I don't usually do crack so I totally forgot how strong it was, so in my drunk stupor I took the biggest hit my lungs could take, and holy shit I never in my life felt like I was having a heart attack more than at that moment. I eventually recovered - but my chest pain has become seemingly permanently worse after that episode. :( I rememeber it bothering me nonstop the entire next week at work, and the next. And then you know, it kind of gets better, and you just kind of learn to live with it. Its hard to say how much is each.

I had the same thing so I get you seemed to get worse when I smoked weed, 1 month off and it was gone, trust me you likely aren’t dieing, I had this heavy feeling in my chest after being on Xanax for 2 months and it subsided more by each week to nothing.

Have you ever been given oxygen ?
I think so, I have eosinophilic esophagitis.. I've heard it described like this "Asthma of the esophagus" which is fairly accurate. But what happens is my esophagus slowly tightens and tightens and tightens, until I basically can't swallow food anymore. So I have to go back in for surgeries every few years for them to expand it out again with balooons. I think oxygen is one of the things they give me, but they give quite the cocktail, including fentanyl, even though I told them I was an ex addict, and that I didn't want it, they still gave it to me. And meanwhile I had a friend just down the hall in agonizing pain and they wouldn't give him even a fucking T3. The only difference I can think of between us, is that he looks like a bum, and I have innocent looking baby face. I sure hope thats not the reason, but if it is, that really pisses me off.

Anyway sorry got off topic there, yeah they give fentanyl and propofol... so if you were hoping I'd recall something, I'm afraid not, I always leave there feeling prettttty good.

Yeah I also came to the conclusion that it sounded just like Angina. Except it wasn't my lips, it was primarily my fingertips, but also my toes. And not sure if I mentioned this before, tis weird its like the chest pain expanded into my neck and jaw, and back. It was almost like a radiating pain, originating from the chest, but essentially leaving no part of my body unmolested. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense, I don't know how else to describe it.

No, no, It makes perfect sense. Next time you see your doctor tell him or her evething that's going on and tell them what you think the problem might be.

I’m sorry you had to through that :/

Did you tell your new doctor absolutely everything you’ve said here?
Ive certainly been guilty for leaving certain (large) parts of the story out. Especially to a new doctor. I didn’t want them to make snap judgements about me.

What really helped me the most getting off benzos was carbamazepine. It's an anticonvulsant that indirectly affects GABA receptors, and also makes your body process benzos a lot faster. I was able to taper off a 7 year habit in 2 months without too much difficulty, and this is after many failures.

Hey man @Pickledlemons how are you doing? I was thinking about you as I remember I suggested to a friend's daughter to do a diazepam taper. That was in the summer. Nothing really happened, I think the woman is still popping and escalating if anything. But I hope you are feeling better PL. Going in the right direction.

Could you elaborate for me? what were you taking benzo wise and how did you plan your exit?

I'd love to know more.

Thank you, take care.
