This has been asked multiple times, but honestly what do you expect Israel to do in response to the kidnapping of 200+ of its citizens (and butchering 1000+ more)? On top of that Hamas do not want to negotiate for peace with Israel, they want prisoners back and then Israel to cease to exist. What do you expect Israel to do, give back prisoners with no guarantee that the hostages aren't all already dead, and then Hamas continues to launch rockets into Israel like before?

It's a tragedy, but not inexplicable. Hamas created this situation by kidnapping and butchering. If they didn't want 12000+ people to die then maybe they should have sought to enter into peaceful negotiations with Israel and the UN so that disputes can be resolved.

12000+ lives lost is horrible (assuming that figure is correct), but it's not bullshit given the context of why this has happened in the first place. You can't just pretend and excuse what Hamas did is somehow justifiable under any context. It was pure barbarism - see the underlined portion, do you not think Hamas applied that exact logic themselves when executing their 7th of October attack.

This will sound even squirmier but in terms of population and given the population density of Gaza, its clear Israel are not targeting civilians.

Of course, this is awful and I'm not convinced that this strategy is the best strategy. I also have zero military experience so truly don't know what would be the best way to tackle this. It just seems that many don't think Israel should respond militarily at all, and I simply don't agree. I just don't get why Israel should be forced to passively accept genocidal terrorism against their citizens.

The way they should respond is to stop pushing Palestinians out of their homes. Stop creating laws that segregate the society, that oppression creates terrorists and I know myself and others have said this multiple times in this thread. Not everything is about more and more force. In many cases force has been getting applied and needs to be stopped which was the issue in this case

No society that wishes to end terrorism should incentivise violence by capitulating to the demands of terrorists, especially when those demands are conveyed with mass murder. In developed nations, we use different means to rectify injustice.

I agree that Israel absolutely needs to deal with the settlers. But it's not as if Hamas attacked the settlers. They attacked a lot of left wing kibbutzim, generally made up of liberal people sympathetic to the Palestinian cause. I know you don't like collective punishment so you should absolutely condemn those attacks. Those people are as far from settlers ideologically as you get in Israeli society.

It isn't just about the settlers. It's about everything that Israel has done to push Palestinians out and make them second class citizens since the Nakba
 
Palestinian Israelis aren't massacring Jews though. This is about Islamic terrorists massacring people, including fellow Muslims.

And yet noone ever mentions the many arabic countries that expelled the Jews after 1948 or the 15 or so nations that don't allow holders of Israeli passports to enter them. Or the Arabic nations where Palestinians fled after 1948 who have still not allowed those people to become citizens. No, it's all the Jews, right?

Honestly, the leaders of the Palestinians have done way more to make them second class citizens than any other body has. They have turned their culture not towards progress and modernity but into a unending line of young people to be offered up as martyrs.
