Individual scientists can be bought sure, but it is next to impossible to undermine the entire scientific system

There is definitely funding bias, its common in research on drugs of abuse. When it comes to "toeing the company line" that's only in the private sector, most research is done at public institutions

So how many faculty members have you asked about how publishing works? None of the faculty at my institution ask permission from anyone to publish, I don't know where you get your info from
