I am thinking of starting to use my prescribed Bupropion recreationally.

I knew a few guys that did this. They had all started doing it in jail when they had nothing else. But some of them continued doing it outside. From what ive heard its a shittier version of ritalin

Hi

Let me just tell you that bupropion in any way, shape or form is not worth abusing.
IVing it ist basically the only Route that offers something, (which is at best)mediocre recreationally. And if done so it is horribly Dangerous, caustic and -again- totally not worth it.;)

If used as prescribed (for me that was 150mg-450mg daily) I found it to be a quite useful 'antidepressant''/'mood booster' and/or adhd-med.:)

Stay safe

I snorted welbutrin with a welbutrin addict (ex heroin and methadone addict and raver in his young days). He and his brother got into welbutrin years ago before I’ve met him. He is/was also on some other meds too, I think tramadol and some benzo at the time. He brought a big box full of hundreds of welbutrin pills with him and offered me some. He removed outer coating and we snorted it. I found effects really unimpressive but my big tolerance to coke and many other things at the time had to do at least something with it. For me it was very short and very weak high, tho not that it wasn’t pleasant just wasn’t worth clogging up nose, at all.

Few years latter I chewed up some generic bupropion and got rather nice antidepressant effects, no real high but can see it being great antidepressant for some.

Just harm reduction me, I have not decided yet it is just a consideration.

As everyone else said, abusing bupropion isn’t worth it. The risk of seizures, anxiety/panic attacks and a generally short lived rubbish and potentially dysphoric high makes it a bad idea all round.
Are you prescribe this medication for depression? if so, abusing it could lead to a bad reaction and you could become intolerant to the medication. that could be very unfortunate since bupropion is one of the more well liked antidepressants as it generally doesn’t produce emotional numbing or sexual dysfunction associated with traditional SSRI antidepressants. actually, bupropion can enhance sexual function and enhance behavioural activation, which are good effects for depression.

It burns the hell out of your nose too..

Do this long enough & you might end up with some nasal damage.
It absolutely is a shittier version of ritalin. Or technically more like methcathinone. It's a shitty cathinone. It's incredibly short acting too. Even though it hangs around in your system for awhile.

Seizure risk, higher risk of auditory & visual hallucinations. Usually on regular stimulants the hallcinations don't kick in until I'm very sleep deprived.
With buproprion though, I would have auditory hallucinations the very same day if I did too much.

It's really not worth it though. But it can be a way to quickly wake yourself up some times. Not really something you wanna party or have fun on.
It also gave me more anxiety than traditional stimulants.

Taking it orally does next to nothing for me though besides flatten my mood.

It's also going to affect the way your cigarettes feel if you're a nicotine user.

Interesting, wellburtin didn’t hurt my nose but it did clogged it up really bad. Person I tried it with really fucked up his nose from long abuse.

But it really isn’t I would like to use even if I had a pure powder, it’s too “dirty” drug for recreational use. On the other hand when I tried it orally I figured out it wouldn’t be bad at all as antidepressant and/or help for stopping smoking. It seems it’s kind of unpredictable how effective antidepressant it will be for someone, and isn’t that more effective for that more people from the next solution. Those who are happy enough to get it work without a lot of side-effects seem to benefit a lot from lack of libido-killing and weight gain and some other usual side-effects from SSRIs, SNRIs or triciclics.

After reading the advice on this thread, I never decided to abuse it or take it recreationally.

But about 2 weeks ago I was feeling super depressed after a 5 day hospital visit related to diabetes.

I started to double up on my prescription because I was an idiot and thought it would make me feel better, it didn't. (I probably took 600mg for around 3 days before noticing anything significantly different)

It made me feel super shitty, tremors across my entire body for 3 days once I realized what I was doing. I definitely had auditory hallucinations and just made me scared to sleep.

Glad I didn't take a dose like I would if I really wanted to abuse it.

It Is not recreational if taken alone and it completely block CYP2D6 ensyme what i think Is not healthy and if u enjoy codeine/tramadol/dextromethorphan (dextromethorphan is better antidepressant and with dose dependent recreational potential lol ) they won't work right while u take bupropion and even 1month after stopping using it, CYP2D6 will be still blocked.

When i used it for depression it made me more nervous, edgy but more fight > run type of person. It was recreational only when i took it with tianeptine, which is short-acting opioid labeled as an antidepressant in many parts of EU.

I find it quite funny that the synthesis of bupropion mirrors that of mephedrone so closely.

It's amazing what some people consider pleasurable. I known people who compulsively IVed first-generation antihistamines. I have NO idea what the appeal of that could be. Possibly it was more the needle than the drug.

But if it's bupropion or nothing, I would go with nothing. I don't feel that MORE anxiety is what I need.

That’s great. Honestly, your decision not to abuse it hasn’t only paid off now, but it should continue to do so as the medication starts working over time. please stick to your prescribed doses and if you don’t mind, could you update us on how it’s going? i’m thinking of trying bupropion myself to treat chronic fatigue and low motivation.
I wish you all the best and a full recovery.
PS you mentioned you had diabetes. though you may already know, fluctuations in blood sugar, especially chronically high blood sugar can increase depression risk or severity. usual health tips, like exercise and drinking plenty of water can go a long way, but you can also supplement with vitamins and minerals under the supervision of your doctor.
