What is Dose in Fentanyl Fake Oxys? Help with Taper Needed

Hi,
Helping advise someone detoxing from Fentanyl. They’ve been taking 12 pills a day and are down to 8. They’ve been going down like one pill every 3-6 days depending on symptoms. I’ve seen advice on when to jump off to nothing based on other drugs, but not really for Fentanyl when I’ve searched this site and other places. How much fenantyl is in one of the fake blue oxys roughly, then I can convert to one of the other drug recommendations? Or when would you recommend going cold turkey? Like at 3 pills? 1? Thanks so much for any help!

Unfortunately you are talking about pressed pills. There is absolutely no way any of us can tell you what the average dose of fentanyl is in any given pill, and somewhat irresponsible of us to do so.

Your friend may be better served getting medical assistance to help with the detox, and looking at options like Opiate Replacement Therapy like methadone or suboxone or the buprenorphine injection.

I've used a fair amount of heroin, oxycontin and codeine in my life but as an Australian not a lot of fentanyl on a consistent basis. So unfortunately I am of little help. There is however a search bar function you could use to help find previous posts on this subject.

Anyway, since the taper is working, they want to stick with that. Can you or anyone advise on when to jump off to zero? Should they get down to one? Or is more normally okay? Obviously they want to be done as soon as possible, but have a more than five year habit and understand it may take time. They’ve tried the other things you mention unsuccessfully many times. For whatever reason, tapering which hasn’t been successful in the past is working well now.

As said unfortunately I have no real experience with fentanyl or pressed pills.

Your friend is likely to have the most success with a taper like this by getting down to the lowest dose possible, even by cutting the tablet up.

However, the issue with doing that is that pressed pills have 'hotspots' of fentanyl in them, where the concentration of it is higher. Not usually an issue for those who inject, if they know enough HR to give it all a big stir before setting up, but absolutely an issue for someone with pills.

Again, my advice if not using maintenance therapy is some kind of medically assisted detox so that they can have some relief from what will be a very unpleasant week or so.

Understood. Not sure if it makes any difference but they snort. To clarify your advice, your recommend tapering down to the lowest point possible, like even doing 1/4 pill a day or less? I’ve seen on other sites the advice that at a certain level of methadone or other equivalents most doctors recommend that as the jumping off point. I don’t have the exact amount at hand, but I want to say it was like 15 mg morphine. Some sort of finish line on site would help them I think . Thanks for anyone who can reply here! Or if anyone has tapered off of fentanyl and can explain what their sort of schedule was that would be great!
