Drug use has made me homeless

You haven't hit real homelessness until your sleeping on cardboard and using your backpack as a pillow
Actually, this is inaccurate and kind of minimalizes what the OP is experiencing. Yes, unsheltered homelessness often includes what you mentioned. But it is not the only definition of homelessness.

At least in the US there is something known as sheltered homelessness, which is defined as the following:
refers to people who are staying in emergency shelters, transitional housing programs, or safe havens.
It also includes jails, hospitals, and couch surfing.

Seriously, don’t be an ass. Homelessness comes in many forms. I’ve volunteered my time with the homeless for longer than a decade. If you’re sleeping in your car, crashing from friend to friend, camping in the woods… There are a lot of things that contribute to and make up homelessness.

OP, you’re in the UK?

I'm not trying to be Noam Chomsky or anything right now, but there are a few things I feel fairly certain of. As a global economy, we are not preparing to enter a time of plenty, in which people are going to be seeking out the addicts, making sure they are fed, safe and cared for. It has moved very far in the other direction and I'm afraid that this is going to continue. There are not going to be more resources for drug addicts and the mentally ill. If you at all feel like getting sober, I would suggest committing to that now.

Rent is rising everywhere. The cost of food is outrageous. Homelessness is taking on ever-uglier shades of depravity. Many addicts who five years ago "had a place" are now fully living outside in the elements. In my state, there has always been a policy of housing homeless in hotels when temperature drops below freezing. That program will not be continuing. Instead, they are distributing cheap tents and basic disposable stoves and such.

I could be totally full of shit, but I think it's going to get harder and harder to be an addict in this society as our resources continue to run out.

I've been off and on homeless for the last ten years, right now I'm in a recovery program inside of a mission. I've been in shelters, hospitals, slept on cardboard, couch surfed... It started with addiction, but now consist of a lot more because of homelessness and all the hell that comes with it. Now it's hard not use my DOC ( opioids) just to achieve some peace of mind. Homelessness sucks and sometimes there seems like there is no way out

WI, 3/4 of billboards, over half of radio adds are for companies looking for employees.. average starting wage for untrained employees is about 20$ an hour with full benefits. Massive shift to work life balance with quite a few companies going to 4 day work week or guaranteed weekend.
Yea there is plenty of jobs, but once your wallet, vanishes then you want to work but ain't got an ID to get a job. It takes time to get all that shit token care of. Especially when your living in a state your not from. So you either got to find a hustle or someone that will pay you cash for work...So yea that's currently where I'm at
