I don't follow. Could you explain how it is concluded that wearing a "White lives matter" T-shirt necessarily means placating white racists?
Seems to be an overly polarized interpretation.
You don't mean that all white people are racist, right? Are you white? (No need to answer that last one of course)
1) Did you watch the twitter video?
2) Are you American? I'm not saying other countries don't have racists because I know they do. I'm just trying to determine if you have any clue as to what you are talking about. If you don't understand the premise of what BLM means as a mostly American phenomenon, then you probably just wouldn't understand the complexity of what Kanye West did. I will see if I can explain.
So let's take race completely out of it for a moment and draw an analogy by looking at poverty vs wealth. If someone witnessed how the entire capitalist system itself is based upon infinite growth built on the exploitation of poor people, then one could create a rallying cry that said, "Poor Lives Matter!" Just by saying that phrase does not actually take anything away from rich people. Hell, they already have everything anyways. The phrase is meant to bring attention to the fact that poor people are being taken advantage of by society and that we all should make an effort to achieve a little more equity. The following meme actually perfectly illustrates the absurdity of the All Lives Matter movement:
Now imagine if, instead of the crowd saying "All Lives Matter" to Jesus, that they said "Wealthy Lives Matter." Are you following me yet? While All Lives Matter is meant to take the wind from the sails of poor people by taking the focus off them, Wealthy Lives Matter goes above and beyond that and is simply a kick in the teeth to poor people.
To say All Lives Matter in the context of race in America is to completely miss the point of the struggle black people have faced in the US for centuries. Less than 50 years ago we still had water fountains, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. segregated with signs that said Whites Only and Blacks Only. This is in the lifetimes of many of our parents and all of our grandparents. For Kanye West and known race baiter Candace Owens to wear shirts saying White Lives Matter would be similar to Samuel L Jackson (black) holding a sign that said "I hate n-word" instead of Bruce Willis (white) in the racist photo Electrum posted. It just doesn't make sense and the only conclusion I can come to is that Candace Owens is trolling and Kanye West is stupid.
To come full circle, Donald Trump has Nazis and American Confederate wannabes proudly show up at his rallies yet Kanye still wears a MAGA hat. Much like Herschel Walker in the Georgia senate race, I think white conservatives are taking advantage of Kanye and exploiting his stupidity to further their own racist agenda by saying, "Well Kanye feels this way so all black people should feel the same." When in reality they don't and they see through the facade, hence the twitter statement from a black guy calling out Kanye for placating white racists.
So in the context of American conservative evangelical Christian Nationalist MAGA republicans who are notorious hypocrites and xenophobes, the following meme kind of sums it up:
3) Of course I don't believe all white people are racist. And to answer your question, I'm half Mexican but take after my dad with white skin. So all my life I've heard other white people (not all of them) make racist jokes and comments about Mexicans around me because they only saw my white skin and didn't realize they were insulting my mother, grandparents, and half my lineage. All my dad's immediate and extended family are either dead or live in different parts of the country so I never knew them. All my mom's relatives lived in my home town, so I honestly feel more Mexican than Anglo based on the simple fact that I was raised within the confines of the Mexican half of my family. So yes, even a person with white skin can experience racism from other white people because my culture goes deeper than my skin.
