So I have this very old friend who has been an addict since 2005 . we both started the same time ,but I went on Suboxone ,then subutex . He moved out of state in 2006 and has continued to use ,graduating to H . His doc just put him on Methadone and I am concerned. I have been on Subs since 2009 so I'm not having a picnic either but Im not sure which is worse.

Neither is better than the other one, they both serve their purpose. Some ppl react better to methadone, others to bupe. Just thank God you both still alive tbh cause heroin practically doesn't exist anymore, it's all either fent or that new tranq fent shittttt.
Cheers

Both methadone and buprenorphine are a MUCH better option than being on street "heroin" which is incredibly dangerous nowadays, usually fentanyl and very deadly.
At least if you are taking a prescribed dose of methadone or subs you are not going to OD and die.
Both of you are doing the right thing staying off street drugs, good on you man ❤

Theres nothing wrong with either there both safe. However some people react well to methadone some react better to bupe. Either way it's better then fucking street heroin fuck that shit.

Yeah. I asked him what color the stuff is that he's been getting and he said it was Blue! I never heard of that .I am weaning of Subutex as I am sick of having to take it every day.

That's prolly m30 blue presses, yuckie.

We had it in all kind of colours back in the day, came in these little cups , yellow , green, red and transparant depending on dosage , nog they switched to pills.

As to op's question i think it really depends on your habit, switching from h to done is easier than h to bupe , also i prefer the methadone buzz to bupe.

I get methadone pain pills monthly; for last 15 years. Not so much life hassle; but my pain doc is getting older and my younger primary doctor wants me to switch to suboxone.
Why? Methadone has always been good for pain; stigma, war on drugs, they want to switch me to another med to be dependent on; the switch will be a bitch!

I take methadone to avoid steroids like prednisone for life?

Stick with what works and tell your doctor to quit trying to fix what's not broken.

Buprenorphine is unique molecule.First-it had very strong binding affinity to opiate receptor...that means, that,if you on subs you hardly feel anything from other opies or you must take more from them at least to feel the effect.Second-just like methadone it's very long acting.Third-unlike methadone&the rest is strong full antagonist of kappa receptors(and partial agonist of mu receptor)......there is studies about using bupr.for depression because of this.....as to quitt one or another probably they are equally hard to quitt....but more people tells methadone is harder&have one of worst opi withdrawls

I don't know where you live or the availability of doctors. Would you be able to find a different pain specialist and tell your primary doc to take a hike (with regards to your pain condition)?

Maybe; I will look around for sure for sure when the time comes. I think its a good idea that I use my primary to wean off of benzos. I will not let him bully me off an existing pain contract; but I am willingly trying to wean off clonazepam. I tend to go overboard on them anyway; which probably isn't safe of me.

He's 39 years young, my primary doc, at least he is giving my plenty of time to taper, so I'm pretty OK with him. He will respect my choice of meds that have worked in the past or I will certainly change docs. Or at least find another pain management doc.

My pain doc gave me a paper today to him from the Oregon Health Authority; they were saying I was on too much narcotics; the pressure is more coming from without; also no other pain doc(at this clinic, anyways) will put me on a certainly pretty liberal Rx; giving out 40mg methadone and 30mg hydrocodone/day.

From what I understand, Suboxone is an Opioid while Methadone is an Opiate.
Personally, Methadone is what helped me kick black tar and that was 6 years ago. Methadone works as long as you take it as prescribed. I’ve been taking 180mg a day for 4 years now. I am worried about getting off Methadone but I would like to have my life back.
It would have been nice if my clinic stated me at a higher dose to get me off tar and then slowly taper me off. That way I could be off Opiates.
