I don't think anyone in this thread is saying "ban guns." The OP mentioned military-style assault rifles. These types of guns, while making up a small percentage of the types of firearms available, unfortunately make up a larger proportion of the types of weapons used in mass shootings like that just happened in Buffalo. I think @Negentropic offered some other good viable solutions as well like universal background checks, longer waiting periods, licensing and renewals, etc.There are two kinds of solution:
1. Better laws
2. Better people
Banning guns is not a better law, since it's obviously totalitarian.
Population IQ is often overlooked.
Better law is downstream from better people so actually that's the only major one...
So, what can any single person do about this? Be as good a person as possible. Banning guns and thus being a totalitarian anti-intellectual defeatist coward of course has nothing to do with being a good person.

And I know it's a favorite cliche for the 2A fanatics to say, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people."....
