Film What's the Last Film You Saw? v. Tell Us What You Thought!

Yeah "grim aesthetic" is a good description.. It was so gritty. The characters were very realistic too (my ex-husband grew up in that part of Adelaide lol - one of the roughest suburbs in the country). That ringleader was a sadistic psychopath 😕

Nitram had to tread a lot more carefully. I watched it with my mother who couldn't cope with Snowtown at all. It's still very tense though and gives you a feel for what was going on in MB's head prior to the massacre. The characters are equally as realistic and bizarre as Snowtown.

Snowtown was sadistic as fuck, even more so for it being a true story.

Have been unsure whether I wanna see Nitram or not. Nothing to do with the content, just not sure if I'm interested. Maybe because I don't know anything about the crime. What did you think of it? I do like Caleb Landry Jones (I think he plays to criminal).

The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985)

One of Woody Allen's best films, spanning a blindingly fast 1 hour 22 minutes. Lots of existentialism and escapism at question with this one. The ending was golden.

You can only buy it on Bluray (Region A) if you get one of a 3000 copy limited release that goes for $80+ used already... so I opted for a 2001 dvd release for $8 and just hope that it scales okay on my 4k tv.

8.5/10

The Outfit (2022)

A fast paced thriller in the style of Agatha Christie, with plot twist after plot twist. Enjoyable, and amazing what they did with only one set the whole film.

7.5/10

Species (1995)

One of the 'best-worst' films I've seen; I can see why it has a cult following. It's like the actors knew it wouldn't be good but they still tried. Shoutout to H.R. Giger for helping make this Alien rip-off a visually exciting recasting of his monster.

6/10

Mandy (TwentyEighteen)

First half; a bit tedious, trying too hard with psychedelic reach & little technique re storyline saved by heavy, visuals - but pointlessly, obfuscating any decent intro, imho.
Second half; really entertaining, more action/venge-flick b-movie style, humour & action sequences - still, amazing visuals & soundtrack
Really quirky & modern nod to some old-school b-types with a comic-book story line.

Overall, some great weirdness & humour, beautiful old-70/80s aesthetics.

NITRAM (2021): One of those rare gems that, upon its completion, I could have definitely savoured another 20-30 mins of viewing. That pretty much sums it up, for me.

Story is based upon this charming fella from the land Down Under:

NITRAM = Martin spelt backwards - in case you're wondering. Thanks

Started watching 'Joker' last night on netflix, not a fan of Batman movies but this is actually pretty good.... has nothing to with the Batman franchise that I can see. Watched half of it & gonna watch the 2nd half shortly then tonight will watch another episode or 2 of season 5 of Gomorrah 👍🏻

Last feature I saw was Taboo (Netflix series - not for here but let's be honest, most are stuck on that media).

Tom Hardy as a resentul & revengeful, protagonist in a Victorian period- some Shakespearian/ Hamlet type themes - hence, the 'Taboo' title.

I was engrossed in the first two episodes; some after got a little too, 'Games of Thrones' - esque (was not a fan).
Obviously, the individual episodes got various directors/producers, so the productions reflect them.

Great acting. However, a bit of copy-cating, of peaky-blinders (obviously) but disappointing that this couldn't find an original niche
Taboo was great 👍🏻

My neighbors the yamadas, a funny and entertaining studio gibbli film, different appearance than the others but all in all a good story. Maybe something you could watch with your children.

The Batman (2022)
Dude just didnt make the cut IMO being BM.
Too long for the little action.
BM (actor) is an emo from the past. No offence against any genre just NOT BATMAN! I get the similarities but BM is an action figure not a pouter.
Meh
:thumbs down:

^Ah bugger, was hoping it would be a decent one. Good to know, to hold out, until bored & flicking through channels, when it appears. 😉👍

Mom & Dad (2017).
- Brian Taylor (of Happy! series FX)
- N. Cage & S. Blair, et. al.

Honestly, just hilarious, twisted-tale - beautifully written, directed & acted -bat-shit, fun, (subconsciously, cathartic) film.
Selma Blair is always sterling, character actor.
If you like Nicholas Cage doing crazy, you'll love it, he shined also!

Bad footage clip, of a brilliant scene. 😁👍

bored & flicking through channels,
man i been waiting for a while. was all stoked as hell when a HD version was posted. would not watch it again. I think keaton would be my fave BM. guess its my age but i own it.

Will look for mom n dad. 2017... would be a wonder if i somehow missed this. lots of times i wont realize i have seen a flick until halfeay through. specially if it was in that time period as it was still xannie and oxy time. "sobriety" was a wee seed in my heart.
happy trails

Keaton, eh? Not C. Bale. I mean Keaton was great in, Birdman. To each their own 😉

Do keep an eye out, mate - it's well worth a watch! To fuck with, rotten tomatillos. 😎🍆😉

mom and dad was crazy cool!

Dog Day Afternoon (1975) I've been watching a lot of '70's films this week, and THIS one is fucking brilliant. Seriously, Al Pacino is beyond amazing. I mean, the entire cast was great, the story is SO well-written...I just loved it. Most films these days SUCK ASS, but the vast majority of older films I've seen are seriously entertaining. Later on I'm going to see The Godfather (part 1 & 2) for the third time. With buttered popcorn. I LOVE buttered popcorn!

Across the Ice.

Edit: Forgot to say I thought it was good. The dude from Game Of Thrones (which I never finished and bailed out on season 3) and the dude from Peaky Blinders. A little long but good.
