the film called , Perfect Ending, lesbian romance, I loved it, wasnt run of the mill story plot, and the older woman never had an orgasm, so when she had one, well she did some great acting, and the end was perfect,

That reminds me of this older woman (not old-old but at the time I was 25 and she was 56) I got on well with in a homeless hostel once. We were just friends but fooled around a bit. She was telling me once about how she was pre-orgasmic and my friend JUMPED away frus us like "YOU'RE ABOUT TO HAVE ONE, HERE? NOW?". It just made me laugh how shocked and serious he was. Like...Confidently Wrong lol.
I was like".....that's not what that means" xD

The Long Night - 2022

Got better as it went along but not by much.

Here’s the plot:

While searching for the parents she's never known, Grace and her boyfriend return to her childhood stomping grounds in the South to investigate a promising lead on her family's whereabouts. Upon arrival, the couple's weekend takes a bizarre, terrifying turn as a nightmarish cult and its maniacal leader terrorize the pair en route to fulfilling an ancient, apocalyptic prophecy.

Fucking awesome. 5/5 all day. It's not made as a horror film either by the way, just a point. Theres quite a few things going on, but which are within grasp of the viewer, it hasn't got complex interwoven themes all over the place (which doesn't make a bad film, just this isn't one of those) I think it will leave you with at least a couple of questions.

"Joker"

I really liked this! I had never seen it but I remember some of the hubbub around it when it was released. It deserved the critical acclaim it received!

For one, Joaquin Phoenix is just a fantastic actor IMO. The first film I saw which really made me appreciate his ability was "The Master" but I've always liked him...they got the right guy for the job, creating a troubled but fundamentally decent character who you really sympathize with and root for, even though you know he's on a doomed path

I liked the characterization of Bruce Wayne's father as being a rich prick basically lol, who gets assassinated as a result of a brewing class war in Gotham (a 70's NYC urban decay-style setting that's gritty but not overwrought IMO)

Great direction by Todd Phillips in the film too. Really glad that I eventually caught this one, it's probably my favorite Batman-related film

Titanic (1997)

Damn, Kate Winslet looks older than DiCaprio here, but she's about a year younger. Baby face Leo I guess lol.

This film was Oscar bait if there ever was any. I felt like Elaine in The English Patient episode of Seinfeld, I kept thinking "JUST FUCKING SINK AND DROWN ALREADY!!!" One hour of drama, one hour of an old lady saying, "Weren't my knockers nice young man?" And one hour of a big ass boat (ship, sorry) sinking while cliched tropes play out all around it.

It was nice seeing Winslet's 22 year old nips. She's a babe. I don't get how this film garnered a PG-13 rating when every 13 year old boy would be fapping in the audience... but I digress. The 90s were a different time, and this film is a reminder of just how much conservative backlash came about the past two decades.

I also enjoyed seeing B-actor cameos from Twin Peaks characters and other 90s tv B-acting. Shoulda known it would be a bad film when I saw Billy Zane step out of that car at the beginning but I held out hope... much like the people holding onto the last rails of the Titanic left sticking out of the water.

5.5/10

Also, couldn't stop thinking about this cover during every sappy scene with the Celine Dion song lol:

I think I'd have enjoyed it more had I not been under the impression it was a horror. Still liked it, though! I must admit, I was embarrassingly far into the movie before I realized what was happening with her (physiologically).

Alvin and the Chipmunks 2: The Squeekquel (2009) - 3.5 stars - Watched with my niece. Not my original movie choice, but apparently Y Tu Mama Tambien isn't suitable for a 4 year old. Whatever. Kinda enjoyed it tbh. It had it's funny moments and was nostalgic as I watched the cartoons as a kid in the 90s (plus Dave was played by that guy from My Name is Earl).

Last Night in Soho (2021) - 4 stars - Not as amazing as people make out, but definitely a good movie. Mostly watched it as I'd heard it had it's roots in giallo influences. I didn't really see that, but thought the movie was pretty good nonetheless, even if the twist of Sandy's identity was pretty obvious.

Creep (2014) - 4.5 stars - rewatched my my parents. They both hated it :/....I loved it. Ah well.

The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971) - 3.5 creative kills - A lot tamer than I;d expected, but it was decent. I keep letting people over-hype things for me, I think.

The Holy Mountain (1973) - 4 stars - Cool. Definitely gonna check out El Topo next.

Hi!
I'm glad you liked it! I watched it twice to fully understand the psycho/parental/carer aspects all rolled into one. It's hard to fit it into a genre really isn't it, which is probably why I liked it the most, unusual film with great storyline, great acting, keeps you interested, SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE READING : and that scene when they're all dancing to the light house track (not the techno scene) was so brilliantly done, as the soundtrack slides between diegetic and non-diegetic sound in the same scene which is very rare in film-making. It's just so odd how it starts like that isn't it? but you realise of course that that was who she was. I'm pleased you took the time to watch a recommendation, I love foreign cinema there's so many fantastic films out there which don't get mentioned in the British media.
