One thing participating in this forum has taught me, the main thing really, is humanizing people who share diametrically opposing viewpoints, and understanding where people are coming from and that they have reasons. This is extremely important as it helps me to become less judgmental. I really try not to judge even when I'm trying to tell someone I think they're wrong. I look back and notice a big difference in my ability to do that from the early days/before posting in here, to now.
There was an episode of the original Star Trek called Day Of The Dove. Kirks crew and the klingons kept fighting and fighting. They discover a being on the ship that fed off of their fighting. The more they fought the stronger the entity got. So Kirk and Kang figure it out and stop fighting. I really feel with all the division between peope some being is feeding off of it. lol And what you just described Xorkoth is the antidote to that fighting. I am practicing it too. Trying more for unity.
This is from Wiki on that episode Day Of The Dove
As they clash, and with the entity hovering and pulsating a bright red nearby, Kirk implores Kang to stop, telling him that they may become its puppets for a thousand lifetimes if they continue to fight. Kang acknowledges Kirk's warning and the fact that their fighting is pointless. Kirk and Kang order their respective crews to lay down their arms. To starve the entity, Kirk and Kang encourage their crews to act jovially and to laugh with one another loudly. The entity fades and leaves the ship.
