Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

The important consideration here is age-adjusted rates of breakthrough deaths. If 88% of Vermont residents are vaccinated (the article here is unclear about whether this is referring only to fully vaccinated individuals or not) and 76% of Covid deaths are among the vaccinated, then based only on these data it would seem that the vaccines have only a negligible protection against death from Covid. But, based on the analyses of other jurisdictions, it would seem more likely that (a) these deaths are disproportionately among the eldest Vermont residents and (b) the eldest Vermont residents have a higher vaccination rate than the general population. For example, consider this data from Alberta which I posted in the previous Covid thread. Among those 80 or more years old, during the sample period, 50 fully vaccinated individuals and 61 unvaccinated individuals died from Covid. Although these numbers appear similar, it hides the extremely high vaccination rate among those 80+. When you then look at the rates of death per 100,000, the unvaccinated 80+-year-olds are 9.3 times as likely to die from Covid as vaccinated 80+-year-olds.

I know plenty of people from Vermont and there is absolutely no way their vaccination rate is 88% lol. I live 15 minutes from Vermont them numbers is fucked up

Ofc it's a tragedy if nore people are crippled or die, but we are fighting a pandemic here and we just have to accept these unknown risks and losses and do our "bit" for the greater good because it makes sense, the Data doesn't lie, and it's the "right thing to do."

Right?

Correct.

Maybe you know a disproportionate amount of anti-vaxxers?

There's not much room for sensible discussion if you (and others) just deny facts without any explanation or alternative.

He says societal disruptions in Australia caused by the COVID-19 pandemic - including unemployment, lockdowns and mandatory vaccination - have intensified the racist rhetoric of some of the group’s members.

“COVID was like hitting the fast-forward button ... just evidence to the movement that society is weak and a collapse is close.”

“It starts to get more and more violent. There is this besieged mentality, like we are under attack, so we need to prepare, train and be ready for a war really soon.”

But that is sensible discussion? Neo-nazis in Australia because of covid

Not because of COVID, because of the lockdowns and mask mandates.

Domestic abuse is also up around 6%.

they were saying child abuse reports were down because it was being under-reported from kids not going to school - that's terrible to hear too and something i wouldn't think of without giving it much thought until it's mentioned

The damage that lockdowns have done to society is immeasurable.

They need to stop.
How many small businesses have been lost ? Which create a pretty big chunk of above minimum wage jobs…it’s ok wallyworld and Amazon are still there, they arnt getting closer to a monopoly everyday….fucking people…sometimes the short sightedness of people really worries me

"The health department on Friday reported four more Vermonters have died from COVID-19, as the state saw another near-record high of coronavirus infections.

Health officials counted 283 new cases today, just under yesterday's total and the third-highest number of new infections in a single day in all of the pandemic."

Vermont is interesting because throughout the whole pandemic, they've had the lowest cases, and they're the most vaxxed state in the country at 88%, but they're seeing record numbers now

It’s almost like the numbers have been fudged but this particular state is showing the reality

I really see the picture very very differently myself.

I guess I can only say that.

If you cannot sensibly explain your position (without referring to Bill Gates and/or chemtrails), I agree. It's probably best to just leave it at that.

Those two subjects are so old to me now, but always relevant.

I've done my best to explain myself. I talk with as much sense as I can.

But sense is not so straightforward. I can only talk sense to somebody who can understand sense and it does take two to know.

You're starting to sound like the Mad Hatter.

I'm truly past being concerned with sounding wild and absurd. Humanity has big things on it's horizon.

That above though is a valid philosophical way of regarding what we term as sense.

There is nothing actually mad about that.
