singapore is on fire right now with covid cases and they're 81% vaxxed
We're seeing this with many countries/states/cities across the world. Lockdown is ineffective against delta. It's impossible to contain it. New Zealand was one of the last countries to admit defeat. Victoria is exploding and we're in full lockdown with 70+% vaccinated.
Singapore is opening up. NSW is opening up. 20% of the population in Singapore is unvaccinated. The highest number of deaths per day in Singapore is 11 so far, in a population of nearly six million.
Population density is another thing to consider. Singapore is treated like a country, in terms of statistics, but it more resembles a city.
Singapore population density: 8358 / km2.
USA population density: 36 / km2.
Singapore has 3.5k cases per day. They had less than 30 deaths (out of 6 million) for the first year of the outbreak, but they can't remain locked down forever. Like in Australia, the plan has always been to vax a certain percent of the population then open up.
Opening up was never going to be pretty.
Nobody ever said we weren't going to experience cases or deaths.
The question is how do our deaths/cases look in comparison to other countries with lower vax rates? The answer is - unwaveringly - positive.
