Covid-19 The New Covid Megathread v.Oh-my-cron!

i did the "scouts" thing and regret it to this day but didnt have much choice in the matter.
I was seven years old my first day at Beavers and I remember it so vividly the scenery my thoughts emotions the whole scene has a role-play teachers children and all including myself.

We all went out for a little stroll across the road to some river grassland supposedly to look for beavers.

Like, as if we're gonna see Beavers about.

Then when we reassembled back in the hut the teachers asked all the children who saw a beaver and they all were shopping their hands up shouting..."I saw one male beaver, and two female beavers."

One by one. Every kid.

I kept saying out loud...But I didn't see ANY Beavers- the teachers just hushed me, encouraged and rewarded the kids.

Now there is fun, and Santa Claus, but that was too unreal and pretend for me then lol. I never went back.

Got into Judo and Karate instead.

i NEVER use hand sanitizer and i hate that they give it to my kid at school ever since this bullshit started - she doesn't even really like it and i tell her, go wash your hands instead

i don't wipe the shopping carts down either....ya know what i do? i wash my hands when im done

soap and water - it works great

Yeah washing your hands with soap and warm water is more effective than hand sanitizer. The soap breaks down the fatty protective shell on the virus. Hand sanitizer also takes, I read, 5? or 10? minutes to do its thing. I use it sometimes if it's my only option but it's always better to wash your hands.

Health officials in Finland, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland suspended the use of the Moderna vaccine for younger people due to a risk of side effects including myocarditis.

Sweden said it would pause the vaccine for people under the age of 30, and Denmark did the same for those under 18. Finland said that males under the age 30 shouldn’t receive the jab, while Icelandic officials added over the weekend that they would suspend use of the shot.

“The FDA is aware of these data. At this time, FDA continues to find that the known and potential benefits of vaccination outweigh the known and potential risks for the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine,” an FDA official said in a statement to news outlets over the weekend in response to the Nordic nations’ decision to suspend the vaccine for certain age groups.

what i wonder is, at what percentage does the FDA decide that the risks finally outweigh the benefits?

see it's stuff like this that causes major mistrust....it's not "misinformation"

the benefits outweigh the risks to society overall but not necessarily the individual

that's the message i keep hearing and i would have to think that im not the only person hearing that same message

That's not what I said was stupid.
It is selfish, but I wouldn't call it stupid.
But is it really selfish ? We know if everyone was vaccinated right now the virus wouldn’t be wiped off the face of the earth, and we know vaccinated people still get and spread the virus so it’s kinda irresponsible to call people that don’t want a partially effective mRNA vaccine selfish

No, we don't.

and we know vaccinated people still get and spread the virus

We know they can get and spread the virus. I am not aware of anyone with active immunity against the virus being superspreaders. Sometimes people's immune systems don't illicit a response from vaccines because the immune system is failing. This is a very small percent of the population.

Show me the maths that proves we can't beat this with 100% vaccination. Then show me the maths (based on pre-war data) that proves we could beat the Nazis in WW2.

The world has gotten super sensitive, to the point that it is an insult to call an action selfish?

I am selfish. I probably wouldn't go to war, like my grandfather did... but, honestly, he wanted to go. It wasn't a struggle. He lied about his age to get into the army. He told me horrible stories about that war, before he died.

If this is our WW2 (fingers crossed) it's not so bad.

Singapore. Deaths per million: 29
USA. Deaths per million: 2,203

Mr. Krinkle said:
singapore is on fire right now with covid cases and they're 81% vaxxed

We're seeing this with many countries/states/cities across the world. Lockdown is ineffective against delta. It's impossible to contain it. New Zealand was one of the last countries to admit defeat. Victoria is exploding and we're in full lockdown with 70+% vaccinated.

Singapore is opening up. NSW is opening up. 20% of the population in Singapore is unvaccinated. The highest number of deaths per day in Singapore is 11 so far, in a population of nearly six million.

Population density is another thing to consider. Singapore is treated like a country, in terms of statistics, but it more resembles a city.

Singapore population density: 8358 / km2.
USA population density: 36 / km2.

Singapore has 3.5k cases per day. They had less than 30 deaths (out of 6 million) for the first year of the outbreak, but they can't remain locked down forever. Like in Australia, the plan has always been to vax a certain percent of the population then open up.

Opening up was never going to be pretty.

Nobody ever said we weren't going to experience cases or deaths.

The question is how do our deaths/cases look in comparison to other countries with lower vax rates? The answer is - unwaveringly - positive.
