I've been through tricylics, SSRI's and SNRI's. I have a psychiatrist appointment Monday. None of those meds I mention above have had much success in reducing my depressive symptoms for long. I thought I might suggest a very safe reversible MAOI inhibitor as apparently MAOI inhibitors are the most effective antidepressants. Anyone have any experience of Moclobemide? How effective was it? Side effects etc.

I used to take moclobemide with dmt usually but i did it take it a little on its own and it does gussy up your mood and pretty much instantly too - no "ive been taking ssri for 3 months and i think it might be helping" shit

Let us know how it goes. I'm in the U.S. and moclobemide isn't even approved here. All psychs ever seem to want to give me are ssri's and wellbutrin. Both of which I dislike. So I ordered pirlindole, another RIMA from Russia. It hasn't arrived yet though.

Spoke to my shrink today. I'm going off of antidepressants. Starting with Moclobemide, and staying with Aripiprazole. Which means I'm down to two medications. Hooray less tablets to take. Hopefully that will be enough to keep me stable. She wanted me to try Lithium. However, I didn't like the idea of regular blood tests. Plus Lithium is basically a salt and one is required to drink more liquids than normal. But, I asked about Moclobemide a MAOI. She was reluctant due to dietary requirements. I said I'm quite prepared to take that chance. On reddit people can't sing it's praises enough, far more efficacious than any SSRI's or SNRI's. So I taper my Escitalopram for a complete bodily wash out then I start Moclobemide 300mg a day. I'm hoping this could possibly be the panacea. It's mechanism of action is to slow down the digestive and enzyme breakdown of Serotonin, Dopamine and Norepinephrine. Thus increasing levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain. No reuptake action. So I shouldn't feel blunt like you do on Escitalopram. It's gonna take a month before I start, but I can ride it out as I'll probably have rebound depression. But, at least I know the cause and can wait it out.

I hope it works for you! My pirlindole finally made it to the U.S. after 32 days but it’s still about 700 miles away from me.(tracking the package online)

I’m hoping the same thing for me with this because it gets very difficult to keep going with work and other responsibilities of daily life without going back to using more harmful drugs due to my depression.

Many years ago I went through this exact same scenario with my ex-psychiatrist. He wanted to try me on moclobemide, I even got the script filled. But I never ended up taking it.

How are you going, coming off the escitalopram? You doing okay?

I thought moclobemide did not need dietary restrictions like other MAOIs because of its reversible nature.
wiki said:
Of 2300 people in multiple clinical trials who were treated with moclobemide in doses up to 600 mg with no dietary restrictions, none experienced a tyramine-mediated hypertensive reaction. As the pressor effect of moclobemide is so low, dietary restrictions are not necessary in people eating a normal diet, in contrast to irreversible MAOIs

I'm fed up with emotional blunting of SSRI's. I want to feel again. I don't feel happy on Escitalopram just dull. I think it's all to do with re-uptake inhibition. Moclobemide simply increases the neurotransmitters, serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine by blocking there breakdown. Let's see how things go with it.

This is interesting, after my first dose of Moclobemide I have an increase in mood with a slight sense of well being could be a placebo. Although I have developed a slight headache. Nothing Paracetamol can't deal with. I shall continue with it.

Very well thanks for asking. I would say my mood is slightly above baseline. I had anxiety the second day, but that's gone now. So yeah... I feel quite good on it. No bad side effects so far. I might add though that I do take Aripiprazole 30mg, have done for years.

Okay cool, sounds like it's going well for you! I hope it continues :)

Might I ask seeing as you are a staff member. I posted another thread, what's your take on it? Cheers.

Not a problem at all, I'm just checking it out now.

*edit*
I just had a look. Unfortunately I don't have any personal experience with moclobemide and psilocybin so I'm not going to comment. I will leave it for others who will know the answer :)
I'm currently on duloxetine which is an SNRI and it definitely dulls the effects of psychedelics. It doesn't block them completely, but I can't trip balls.

Oh well, thanks for looking anyway. I used to be on Duloxetine 60mg I believe it was. It didn't do much for me.

No worries, sorry I couldn't help. Yep, I'm on 60mg duloxetine. It is literally a lifesaver for me. It never ceases to amaze me how different meds affect different people :)
