So, I've been debating if I want to or not, and when I close out of the BestBuy page I start thinking about it again, and open the page back up. (not saying I will get one from there, just where I am at).
They look really fun, and have always been a huge fan of Mario games, and Zelda. If I were to get a Nintendo Switch then those would be the games I would mostly play first. Have been pricing them, and have been leaning towards the grey-con controller setup. I dig the red, but grey seems more low-key.

So does anyone on here have a Nintendo Switch, or know anything about it?
What are some of the perks, and cons?
Are you able to play online with friends? Maybe even friends from other countries?
What if I don't have any wifi, am I still able to play the damn thing?

I’m not an expert but I did buy one for my daughter and set it up for her. She loves it and switches between the TV and inbuilt screen with ease. You can play without wifi because it uses solid state cards to hold the games. She also connects with friends online and plays with them. But I don’t want you being friends with my daughter. Nothing personal.

I bought a Xbox S for myself and like it better. But it lacks the portability of the Switch.

I've owned pretty much every system Nintendo ever put out, so yeah I have one. I love it. I've forgotten my Xbox exists for the past year or so.

It's a no brainer if you like Mario and Zelda. Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are two instant classics. Those two games alone will give you hours and hours of play. Then you have Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, the new Mario All Stars and Mario Maker. The replayability is off the charts with those. Then there's a few I've not played yet, like the newest Mario Tennis and Mario Party. And the new Bowser's Fury!

I also forgot to mention the Link to the Past remake and the new Hyrule Warriors.

Then if you expand past Mario and Zelda, there's games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley which I've been really obsessed with lately.

Nintendos online subscription is really worth it. It unlocks a library of classic NES and SNES games that you can play anytime. And let's you play with others through the internet, obviously. You can play without WiFi if you want to purchase the physical games only. I find buying them online so much more convenient though.

Yes, I have had mine for about three years. I knew there was a risk I would spend about $300 dollars on the setup only to find it collecting dust. I used to spend hours every day of the week playing console video games. But over the last five years, my interest has waned, and the consoles are largely dormant. I had just landed a killer job that meant a Boston->SoCal flight and its return every two weeks for prolly six months. That seems ideal for a switch, as it is highly portable with a lenient battery life. The second week in, I started drinking on a Friday afternoon. Before a week passed, I had gone through my second chance, and I was terminated. Somehow, the Switch was still with me, and as I was doing the intake at a "sanitarium", I did more smooth talking and they let me have my switch while I was inpatient for about seven days. That was when I really came to love having a portable gaming device.

I find I play games on it far more than my PlayStation, and the games I play are usually indie games, for which Nintendo has really built up a strong library and community to support it.

What are some of the perks, and cons?
I like it for its balance.
Handheld, you have a nice, juicy, large and vibrant screen right in front of you. More interesting than staring at screen on your phone. It is comfortable to operate handheld, and sometimes I have eight hour sessions that way.
But I can also pop the controllers off, drop it in its dock, and play on my 60" Sony X900H UHD TV, and my eyes feel like my mouth does when I eat Starbursts. Especially the big titles you like, Zelda and Mario stuff.
The battery is viable for a fairly long time.
The storage is microSD based, thus expandable and portable. When I travel I use the same card for both my Switch and my digital SLR camera.
It uses a USB-C style adapter and it is the only thing I own that does, so there is a dearth of charges for it around my apartment.

Are you able to play online with friends? Maybe even friends from other countries?
With some games, yes. But it is not going to rival a PlayStation or XBox for this. Nintendo's game network is just not as awesome sauce ad Sony's or Microsoft's. With less online titles in the library, there are less users to play with. It works, but if you are used to playing Call of Duty with your fantasy football team for three hours every day, you probably wont find that experience on this platform.

But, if it is playing with you quarantine buddies that you are after, it beats the consoles for split screen action. Some titles really shine in this area, like Mario Kart. Also, for a low key, low stress that gets progressively intense, check out Kingdom Two Crowns, it has a coop mode to play with your spouse. It is not competitive and this is more approachable for some players.
What if I don't have any wifi, am I still able to play the damn thing?
Yeah, this is where it has an edge over most console titles. Most of the games can be played completely offine.

Also, my favorite game on the darn thing is Steamworld Dig 2. Totally oldshchool, with chunky pixelated graphics. My inner ControlDaddy just squeals for it.

Enjoy - CD

Thanks for the replies everyone!

So I did it, I bought one! It is the standard Switch. with the red and blue joy cons. Sadly I won't be able to get it until Thursday. There were no stores around me that had them in stock. So I ended up ordering one. Figure I roll with BestBuy because they were fairly cheap, and went on with the GeekSquad repair package, just incase the just incases.

Have been looking into cases and such. I am wanting to get a case to put it in because I feel like it would be the normal thing to do, plus I don't want it just sitting out in plain sight.
Anyone have any recommendations on cases?

Haven't really decided on games yet. Have been debating if I want to buy the actual games, or get them digitally. I'm guessing once you buy the cartridge then you can like redeem the digital code and have it added to your account right? (incase you lose the cartridge or something).

Still looking at games. I would like to get a Mario game to begin with, and maybe like a indie game. Have been a huge fan of mario kart, but would like to play something with more story. Like one of the Mario games.
Anyone know which would be the better Mario to start with? I havn't played any Mario games since N64 day. Not sure if they are released in like a time of event.

Get Super Mario Odyssey first.

Top notch game rigbt there, and then Breath of the Wild

Im playing Hyrule Warriors II tonight, its a hack and slash Zelda game, and so fucking dope 😎

I especially like the first one to be honest, so I would start there. You may find its not for you.
There is a certain element of obsessive grinding thanks to the literal millions of different firearms you
can find in the game. Good FPS with MMORPG characteristics laced into it. I think it is a bit more
fun if you play with a friend.
That being said my girlfriend and I are slowly making our way through the "pre-sequel"

thats the one I have too. I bought the bundle that came with Mario Kart.

I don't have a case. I don't really take mine outside my apartment. :\

Yes. The only advantage of having the physical disc is that you own that forever. Irregardless of whether you forget your Nintendo account password or whatever. You can also obviously resale the disc if for some reason you want to get rid of it.

Which reminds me of a downside. I'm 99% sure that if your game originates from the disc m you HAVE to have the disc installed to play it. I could be wrong on that. Almost all my games are digital so I'm not sure.

Anyone know which would be the better Mario to start with? I havn't played any Mario games since N64 day. Not sure if they are released in like a time of event.

It honestly depends. If you haven't played since the 64 days, it'll be kinda hard to say. If you really loved Mario 64 then you will most likely love Mario Odyssey. So you didn't play the Galaxy series for Wii? It's kinda like that on steroids. It's more of an open world approach to the Mario series. It's out of the box and wild. If you like innovative crazy shit that keeps you on your toes, Odyssey is the Mario game for you.

If you are more of a classic Mario platformer fan, you may like Mario Maker or Super Mario 3D Workd + Bowser's Fury. It's more a successor of the classic Mario games. I'd suggest looking up some gameplay videos on YouTube.

I also want a switch and eventually, I think I'll get one. But I just bought myself a Nespi (Raspberry Pi in a Super Nintendo case and an Emulator OS installed) and I'm having a lot of fun playing classic old games.

I think it will be a good investment in the long run. I'm not really that huge of a fan with games like Warzone or first person shooters similar. I am more into like graphic cartoony type of games, and was weighing the the pros and cons of each system, and since I don't have a TV in my room I wouldn't be able to play the other consoles. I guess I am always worried that if I were to get a TV and if something happened then I would have to transport it, and would take up to much space. So yea decided to go with the Switch.

I have the games down that I am going to get along with the console, now just need to look around for a decent case. I'm not really interested in something bulky like. Would like a case where I don't have to undo loads of zippers and pouches.

Good stuff man I played MarioKart like three hours today with one of my ex's kids it was a fun time. You gotta get that game early on brother 🙂

I ended up going with Super Mario Odyssey, and ended up grabbing Mario Kart 8 while I was at the store. Haven't played Mario Kart yet, but have been playing Mario. The controls are a bit unusual for me. I've never picked up a Nintendo Switch until today. I very seldom played a Nintendo Wii, so the controller is really new to me. Have been playing them one in each hand. Figure that would be the best way to learn.

Does anyone have a Nintendo Switch friend code thing they want to message me? I would like to have more friends on here!
