he elites aren't following their own rules that they're demanding of the public. They keep getting caught out. That should tell us a lot - if we're aware. Otherwise we just accept the fact that we are peasants and the elites operate under different rules than we do.
Hello (I think it safe to say "hello my fellow Republican")!
Not that I want to get involved with this COVID thing. For better or for worse: I'm "one of those" that couldn't care less either way i.e. if I get it I get it and if it kills me well then so be it. But then again: I've nothing to lose either way and for sure nobody's going to shed a tear either way either i.e. no family or dependents. My girlfriend MAY shed a tear or two but she'll be fine in a day I'm sure!

Anyway: hence my cavalier attitude toward it all to be fair.
The above being said (and for everyone else anyway): I'm of the opinion really that in spite of any so-called proof, one way or the other, the wearing of masks and using hand sanitizer and adhering to social distancing rules cannot do any harm and better to err on the side of caution not? Just makes sense to me. It's not YOU that the mask is going to save but rather those around you (apparently). I mean why NOT do all of these things? No matter whether the powers that be say do or don't type of thing. I know this mask wearing thing has become politicized. And frankly I fought against it tooth and nail myself (I absolutely hate the fact that I cannot see the expression on a person's face for example i.e. it's just fucking unnatural and foreign to me). But here (South Africa) it's not an option to NOT wear a mask when out of your house and in public or at work. Shopping malls and retailers here will not even allow you on the premises without a mask and without your temperature being scanned and without your hands being doused (sometimes TOO liberally) in hand sanitizer. And oddly enough: when we had hard lockdowns here initially and when this all started these measures were VEHEMENTLY enforced (many a politician was caught out and rapped SERIOUSLY on the knuckles i.e. for once there was no playing around where that was concerned).
So (and I suppose I have both my girlfriend and the law to thank): I just deal with it now and it just does make sense to me. For damn sure in my life I've had people (pieces of uncouth lowlife inconsiderate shit) coughing and sneezing in queues without a care in the world and I know on occasion that's resulted in my getting flu or bronchitis on occasion (this before COVID). ANECDOTALLY though: we came out of Winter not too long ago and it certainly appears to me that this strict enforcement of these rules has resulted in WAY fewer people getting the flu this season. I'm convinced myself that if nothing else this mask wearing business has something to do with this.
Don't get me wrong though. In spite of what the statistics may say: we're no poster child either. I don't believe for one minute that our statistics are correct and that's simply because of lack of testing and contact tracing and the like. I reckon our figures are way higher. This especially given the fact that when our majority decide to have a march or protest and gather in their thousands: no masks and it's a free for all (and that happens here pretty often hence my saying that no way our figures are accurate). Them aside: I, like a few around here, don't know of anyone personally that's had COVID. I'm guessing that's because the CIVILIZED portion of our population are adhering to these rules and regulations.
Anyway. That's about the extent of my COVID contribution and input.
Very personal opinion though (and I know one that does not endear me to most) is that it's not the equalizer that I thought it would be. There's too many of us on the planet as it is. And I cannot help but wonder just how much more shit we'd be in globally were there no Spanish Flu deaths for example. But then again: I'd probably feel differently if I had something to lose so I'll admit that. Or would I? Not really sure.
