Covid-19 Outbreak of new SARS-like coronavirus (Covid-19)

next time you drive your car, assuming you are capable of driving and are not uber gretan, do you use a model to steer or do you look out the windshield?
Now try driving your car with the windshield painted out, just the rear view mirror and a cretin like Neil Ferguson who can't drive himself telling you which way to turn and whether to speed up or brake, where do you think your car will end up?

haha just too good to ignore

for the guardian take, before peabody posts it verbatim, you may have thought with 20 years experience ferguson might have remebered the old metric, practise what you preach

priceless. Ubermodeller caught with pants down, just couldn't make it up. Now proles get back to your isolation and self flaggellation. Todays wailing and flaggelation will be lead by Jess a keen believer.

Nova - cut the shit. You know how to post without attacking people.

Whatever TLB.

I am posting genuinely held opinion. If you don't like it delete this account pretend it never existed and preserve the echo chamber that BL has become. This is your playground, own it.

You are facilitating some dark trajectories here and you know it. I just cannot figure out why you would allow something so shortsighted.

Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.

I laughed so hard at that Neil Ferguson story. I know that memes don't go here, but not many people will understand the context so I have to leave this one here:

Advisor known as ‘Professor Lockdown’ resigns after breaking rules to meet married lover
Mr Lockdown originally stated that 500,000 people in the UK would die and that was taken as justification for the lockdowns. Turns out this dangerous liar doesn't appear to believe his own hysterical advice. Maybe everyone should take a lesson.

"Every life counts!" is a ridiculous argument. No: every human's dignity counts. An "administrated meat sack" has no dignity and therefore no rights, not even the right to live, so without dignity - you have nothing. That is to say, preventing death is NOT and can never be the most important objective of the state.

It's frustrating to watch how people have been turned into mere virus transmission units with no rights and no sense of being actual humans, and most don't even seem to care. The most basic human rights are being taken away, and people don't even see it. They'll only notice once we have complete government intrusion into people's lives, and anyone who dissents will be 'neutralized' in one way or another for speaking out. Even then some of these idiots won't notice or care and will think that all dissenters are just traitors and 'deserve what they get'.

Telegraph UK - Boris Johnson must end the absurd, dystopian and tyrannical lockdown

UK elites’ Covid-19 PROJECT FEAR has worked, as NEARLY ALL Britons DEMAND lockdown continues despite falling cases
"Having provoked extensive existential angst and worry through a Covid-19 Project Fear, governments are now faced with societies that are petrified of normal life and are pushing back against any easing of the lockdown."

Covid contradiction? Pompeo believes coronavirus was 'man-made,' also agrees with intelligence that it was not
It's always hard to figure out of Pompeo is lying or telling the truth.
RT said:
“The best experts so far seem to think it was man-made. I don't have reason to disbelieve them at this point,” Mike Pompeo told ABC’s ‘This Week’ when asked about a statement from the US intelligence community that unequivocally said the opposite."

^UK transmission rate ("R number"), late Feb to early April.
SARS-CoV-2 was running rampant since the last week of Feb.
By the time the lock down was declared, it had effectively run its course. This was known, or strongly suspected, yet the lock down was imposed anyway.
This scenario is likely true in most countries.
Conclusion: the lock downs were imposed for a reason other than saving people's lives or protecting anything worth protecting.
Calculated as per Imperial's model.

preserve the echo chamber that BL has become. This is your playground, own it.

BL being an echo chamber is laughable. At least 50% of the posts in here are opposing the viewpoints the mods happen to hold. Just because Jess and others disagree doesn't mean it's an echo chamber. It would be an echo chamber if we were censoring opposing viewpoints. People disagreeing with you is whole point of this forum. Be upset at Jess, fine. Don't pretend like you and others don't have a platform to spread dissenting views.

To be fair I am not censored anymore and it used to happen to me a lot (having posts unfairly edited or receiving undeserved infractions).

It's only an echo chamber in as much as there's a few members who sometimes gang up to ridicule some opposing opinions.

Covid-19: Goat, fruit test positive for coronavirus in Tanzania; President questions kits

MSN.com said:
Tanzania's President John Magufuli has dismissed imported coronavirus testing kits as faulty, saying they returned positive results on samples taken from a goat and a pawpaw. Magufuli made the remarks during an event in Chato in northwestern Tanzania on Sunday. He said there were "technical errors" with the tests. The president, whose government has already drawn criticism for being secretive about the coronavirus outbreak and has previously asked Tanzanians to pray the coronavirus away, said he had instructed Tanzanian security forces to check the quality of the kits. They had randomly obtained several non-human samples, including from a pawpaw, a goat and a sheep, but had assigned them human names and ages. These samples were then submitted to Tanzania's laboratory to test for the coronavirus, with the lab technicians left deliberately unaware of their origins. Samples from the pawpaw and the goat tested positive for COVID-19, the president said, adding this meant it was likely that some people were being tested positive when, in fact, they were not infected by the coronavirus. "There is something happening. I said before we should not accept that every aid is meant to be good for this nation," Magufuli said, adding the kits should be investigated.

Does anyone give a shit?

I am wondering what the ripple effect deaths will be. I doubt anyone thought ahead to those.

America is predicting huge meat shortages, while temporary, they do effect availability (cost from scarcity, dietary impacts). I understand some Wendy's (fast food, built upon hamburgers) are offering only chicken items. China relies heavily on the US for pork products, HA! We'll see how that goes. I'm surprised there wasn't more flack about Smithfield closing down first, given they are now Chinese owned. I'd have to look for articles to link, but I understand many grain other farming areas were plowing under crops and throwing food away as demand had gone to near nil. My impression is we'll have a food problem for a few months before things can ramp back up after the shutdown.

Financially this slows a big part of the comeback - food supply, both domestic and foreign. Will prices go up like they do in Hurricanes or natural catastrophes based on scarcity? Will people have to go without because they can't afford inflated prices (in a few rare cases, I think so), and will the prices come back down (likely)?

China relies heavily on the US for pork products, HA! We'll see how that goes.
Unfortunately due to African Swine Flu last year China had to cull 50-70% of their entire pig population (hundreds of millions of pigs IIRC)

My impression is we'll have a food problem for a few months before things can ramp back up after the shutdown.
Probably not. I've been warning for years about serious global food shortages that have nothing to do with covid. It actually looks like covid is being used as a way to explain climate-related food shortages and also to bizarrely accelerate the shortages for some reason. Couple that with a government-sponsored war against our food supply and the only conclusion I can come to is that they are trying to actively starve a large segment of the global population. Everyone should be looking at how to grow their own food at this moment in time to take back some of their food security. The Grand Solar Minimum is going to intensify and get worse and the crops will continue to yield less. This will become undeniably apparent in the very near future. For the past couple years it has felt like I've been watching a trainwreck in slow motion while everyone sits idly by oblivious. Maybe a handful of people have taken my warnings seriously.

I am wondering what the ripple effect deaths will be. I doubt anyone thought ahead to those.

The mental health fallout from COVID-19 will be huge
Who cares? Not those who support of the lock down, that's for sure.
"We are in the midst of one of the largest psychological and medical experiments conducted in the history of this country. Over the next few years, thousands of research articles will appear in scientific journals on the mental health fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. Like other public health researchers with expertise in mental health, I predict that the COVID-19 pandemic will take a severe toll on mental health not just now but for years to come.'

0.0001% of the Indian population has died WITH covid-19, and yet....

Does this make sense? People are really going to have to start to make a choice what they're going to go with: the presumption that, despite the apparent (and inherent) idiocy of the policies, the government knows what its doing, or the government has lost the plot and the people need to apply some common sense to this situation before the government goes too far.

FB -Italy Vittorio Sgarbi Speech Slams Coronavirus Numbers Covid-19 Pandemic Lockdowns

French newspaper said:
"Herd immunity has not been achieved because only an estimated 10% of the population has contracted the virus. This is the result of the lock down and social distancing".

Given that the herd immunity approach has been used consistently with viruses of this nature for the last 100 years, and proven to be the most effective way of dealing with such an outbreak, why did the French government (and most others) decide from the get-go AGAINST the herd immunity approach and for lock down?

The only possibly useful and easily foreseeable result of this approach is to prevent as many people as possible from contracting a virus that is not life-threatening to 99.95% of the population.
Why would governments want as many people as possible to NOT get the virus when it is NOT a danger to the vast majority of them and, in the process, put many lives and livelihoods (and the entire economy) at risk through a punitive lock down?
I suppose we'll have to explain it as compassionate government on steroids. A very unlikely turn of events indeed.

I'm not sure if we want to cloud the virus discussion with the impact of the reactions, so if mods deem a separate 'COVID' non-virus effects thread necessary we can move some of these out.

Those arguing against opening up the economy have to realize people want/need to work to feed their families, and a short term stimulus check isn't going to sustain. Unfortunately, with businesses shut down, many of those jobs won't be there when we start coming back. Many want to get back to work to ensure they DO have a job going forward.

Layoffs Start Turning From Temporary to Permanent Across America

...
In an American economy negotiating a downturn that is already being likened to the 1930s Great Depression, with data on May 8 expected to show more than 20 million Americans lost their jobs in April, the story of Michigan Maple and its 56 workers is easy to ignore. It should, though, be a warning for those trying to figure if and when the U.S. economy can stage a full recovery from an induced coma.
...
You can see it in Ferndale, Wash., where aluminum giant Alcoa Corp. recently notified state officials that it will be laying off 700 workers by the end of July as it shuts down a smelter that has been a fixture in the community since 1966, part of a plan to “curtail” almost 50% of its global smelting capacity.

In Beallsville, Ohio, American Energy Corp., a subsidiary of Murray Energy, a coal miner already in bankruptcy proceedings before the crisis hit, is laying off 110 workers at its Century Mine, according to an April 27 letter to state officials in which the company cited sudden contract cancellations by major customers. “This layoff will be indefinite and may be permanent,” David Cutlip, the mine’s general superintendent, wrote.

In such industries as aviation, companies large and small are resorting to permanent layoffs. On April 29, Boeing announced it will cut about 16,000 employees, approximately 10% of its workforce, this year.
...

I suppose the 'Green' folks will like those industries shrinking, even for the short term. But those are also people's livelihood, their ability to have a home and feed their family. What do those folks do now?

My employer is doing it's best to help employees, many were quickly furloughed and given unemployment support, and as we bring some back it's done in ways to not disrupt or cause them to refile for unemployment if they are only temporarily back. They are doing what they can to keep people connected and ready to come back as soon as things open up (and demand is generated).

Looks like Michael Moore is leaving the sinking ship of global warming alarmism early before natural cycles collapses it.

Those arguing against opening up the economy
...don't care as much about human life as they claim to.

JG could you like I dunno flirt with the ladies or something irl if you really think covid isn't such a big deal

I think you've made your case........
My f**kbuddy refuses to come over because of social distancing blah blah. Funny thing is that she's a nurse and originally I was freaking about the oncoming pandemic and she was telling me "it's just the flu". Now I'm telling her it's nothing and she thinks it's super serious....

But yeah I'm not worried about covid. I think many more people have been exposed to it already (which would significantly lower the mortality rate) and the authorities admit that will happen. They're just claiming it's happening slower and they're blowing it out of proportion to justify their controls.

My f**kbuddy refuses to come over because of social distancing blah blah.
I figured. No offense buddy.

I have a few fuck buddies (you can say fuck buddy in here I am going to defend your FREE LOVE FREE SPEECH™) and yes I am horned up too. None of my fuck buddies are really fully doing the lockdown thing.

When's the last time you got some (JUST CURIOUS NO OFFENSE INTENDED)...

LOL this is inappropriate and off-topic and I'm quite happy alone. I am not sex-addicted (anymore).

Thanks for your concern though.

I have been pessimistic and informed about the ridiculously fragile and flawed infrastructure of the USA since I was 15 (now 30) with the main source of key information coming from Zeitgeist 2 addendum. I dunno how the UKs monetary system differs, but I'd guess not much.

It was clear in my eyes that sometime in my life I'd likely experience a monumental life changing collapse/shift. When the news of the pandemic came, I have been hoping and placing faith in humanity it wasnt the precursor to the event. The continued fear mongering and censoring after clear unarguable data was released about the true threat of covid19 and its closer resemblance to a very bad flu season ,has led me to infer that the agenda and goal is something sinister and unimaginable to most sheeple. The unarguably looming threat and problem humanity is faced with is Over Population. Bill Gates has stated a world wide vaccination is the obvious solution to beating covid19. Bill Gates has a track record of his third world vaccine clinics causing sterilization ,which is a mild side effect compared to partial paralysis or strokes, and of course death.

I have debated with a few awakened individuals on the idea of mass sterilization. I personally, if I was given the option to get sterilized along with 80% of the worlds.Males .. I think I would do it.The other option trying to oppose and rebel against of a systematic genocide of anyone besides the submissive, unquestioning ,Obedient individual. Strict Risk assessment would Anyone with a criminal record ,chemical dependence or mental health problems would be eliminated. I used to get excited imagining what my circle would do, turning a small mountain town into a strategic outpost and all the wild. The much portrayed post sysemfailed lifestyle in movies and shows. The reality being an extremely difficult and hard stressful strenuous life filled with death. I was a part of a 7 man crew that gorilla farmed a operation requiring a 30 day stint in the mountains without the amenities of rfood refrigeration, warm showers and any form of entertainment normally afforded. It was how tons of people right now somewhere else in the world are living even shittier conditions . Long story short, in conclusion, I no longer want to be a postapocolyptic rebel badass or have to experience any of it.

Sorry for the lengthy correspondence. I began wanting to Express my belief that everyone and especially ANYONE arguing or debating any issue today, needs to take the 2 hours of time Zeitgeist Addendum runs for. It is free streaming alot if places, here is a link to it,please consider taking the time to watch it.Or at least the first 45 minute part.

I gotta say my employer has been awesome about this whole pandemic . We are an essential business because we make pharmbio products so we have stayed working but I got a 6 week childcare paid leave because schools daycares are closed 🎉. People that stayed working also got a extra hazard pay and free snacks lol. Our company has over 30000 associates and plants in a few countries and we are privately held company so I guess they can afford to pay the childcare leave . It’s been nice being home with my kids but I’m ready for everything to open back up !

has led me to infer that the agenda and goal is something sinister and unimaginable to most sheeple.
This is the biggest problem I'm seeing. It doesn't matter how much evidence or bizarre real-world changes people see, many are simply unable or unwilling to believe that something along these lines could be happening.

"all of this must be happening for our protection, because the governments would never act in such a concertedly malicious or dangerously reckless way"

the covid 19 vaccine virus is totally new and what 2 months old, They simply haven't done the safety work before starting human trials. This is probably over the heads of most people reading this but this is really not a joke.
TBH I don't grok the full extent of your technical jargon however this is something anyone could and should understand.

Do you think a covid19 vaccine is even necessary or do you think natural herd immunity will ultimately be adequate enough?

What is mind boggling to me is the fact that ITS essentially just the flu?! Literally the majority of people infected face very little to NO symptoms... I'm sorry but the ammount of fatalities caused by an especially bad flu season is what we are currently seeing, and this is with every possible death regardless of the virus being present... When the hot mic captured a few individuals in the White House news room talking about the data released showing the true ammount of people already containing the antibodies essentially proving it's TRUE fatality rate and seriously way less of a threat than previously. 200k to 400 already were infected!? I would bet that the standard and normal flu shot would have the same effect against covid19 and that is what the " we are already vaccinated from it" comment refers to.
