I have taken Tramadol for awhile, almost 2 years. Bc of everything going on these days, tramadol has been hard to find. So I went through the WD and everything. Still looking though.
Last week I was introduced to Tapentadol. I dont really like it, the first time I took it, it was fine. But I'd rather not.
I have finally got my hands on some tramadol but it seems that the effects have gone away?? I have read on here that they both act in different ways. Could me taking the tapentadol have affected the tramadol? And what can I do to get the effects of tramadol again?

Honestly, stay off the tramadol. That withdrawal is horrible and the more you do and the longer you take it the worse that withdrawal becomes.

I take tapentadol for my chronic pain condition and it is amazing for me. I don’t see much recreational use for it though but it will make you pretty chill. I take 400mg a day.

Meant to say, the reason tramadol acts differently is because it’s also an SSRI, like an antidepressant. That’s why it feels so good when you’re on it. But again withdrawing from both SSRI and opioid is hell.

Yeah, I've gone through WD to many times with tramadol, I'm just not ready to stop yet. I figured they act differently. I'm just not sure what I can do to get that feeling back.

Take a tolerance break. That means taking nothing for a while then you’ll get the feeling back again. But like I say, it’s not worth it in the end up.

I always wonder if people who feel better taking tramadol are not just benefiting from the SSRI and would be best to get a prescribed one from their dr.

SSRI’s don’t make you feel high in no way what so ever, but I would take something like Lexapro if I planned on kickin tramadol, codeines helpkickin tramadol

I was also thinking about that, its SSRI properties, maybe a medicine that works that way could also help me, but, I changed from tramadol to codeine for a while and codeine really supplanted tramadol for me, so although that effect is present It does not seem to be all attractive, at least to me

Oh I know SSRIs don’t make you high but they do make you feel good. Part of the reason it works so well is because it makes you feel good as well as take the pain away.

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I realise the opioid effects of tramadol are good like, I’ve taken it myself I know how that shit feels but I also genuinely did feel better about myself on it when I wasn’t taking those higher recreational doses. I’d say I would benefit from an SSRI but honestly the weight gain side effect would mean I wouldn’t even try them.

Really though, if someone is depressed and find tramadol helps them then I’d be advising them to go to the dr for a proper script for an SSRI. Could make a world of difference.

Haha I see that I'm not the only one, weight gain is something that scares me a lot from the side effects, that's why I would not take antidepressants, they even prescribed valproate along with methadone and my diazepam, and I really am not going to take it because it is also common weight gain haha
A good friend of mine is also addicted to tramadol, and suffered from depression years ago, less than 2 weeks ago his mother died .. so you can imagine how he feels, tramadol is the only thing that keeps him stable without trying to commit suicide, but he as been taking too high 2000mg doses the last time I spoke to him 2 days ago, I'm worried about him

Holy hell! Those are high doses. I was so worried about seizures I was making sure to take my gabapentin before my tramadol and I was only doing 350mg at the highest. It must be really difficult for him and I’m sure you are worried but just be a listening ear and he will appreciate it.

yeah, I’ve an eating disorder and there’s no way id take anything that would cause me to gain weight. I stopped the gabapentin because I gained weight on it and it was one of my favourite recreational drugs.

He told me that he was taking a low dose of clonazepam together with tramadol due to seizures, but even so I know that there is a double intention in this consumption pattern, the only thing I can do now is to be with him, he has no more family supporting him, for the quarantine I can not see it as much as before, but he is writing to me on instagram, I can not leave a friend alone.
Have you tried pregabalin? Take gabapentin a few times, but found no recreational effects in it, quite the opposite of pregabalin
About the original post, I suppose the question is already answered, taking rest between the doses of some days really helps, in 3 days I could decrease my dose and feel it more, I would recommend not creating a tramadol habit, if you use it recreationally, only 2 or 3 times a week is too much (with this consumption pattern I ended up becoming addicted anyway)

Yeah I was on max dose of pregabalin prescribed by dr but the side effects were too bad for me to continue taking it. Having no short term memory, I gained weight on it also, I had weird hand tremors. My brain was turning to mush basically. That taper and withdrawl was by far the worst one I’ve had off any med I’ve taken. It was awful. I even had to do water titration at the end because too big a jump was causing the worse withdrawals.

Yes that is true, withdrawal from pregabalin is something horrible, they no longer prescribe that medication, my doctor said that they are no longer using it because some patients received a box and they finished it in 2 days, and I can understand this, it ended My prescription of 30 pills in a couple of days and it is supposed to last 2 weeks, I had a horrible withdrawal when I was days without taking it until I received the next prescription, I can get it even if I wanted, but it is expensive and I am taking methadone, so I must forget about other drugs like carisoprodol, ghb or ketamine, I love them, but I don't want an OD

SSRIs never made me feel good, in fact coming off them I ended up feeling more depressed than I was before I started them.

I think like many 'recreational' drugs, your brain gets so used to the antidepressants that they stop working after a while, and coming off them altogether means either a lifelong of withdrawal or a life of being on SSRIs. SSRIs can wreck your brain's natural reward system the same way illicits can I reckon

not saying they don't work well for some people, and that they have their uses, but I think the darker sides of the 'Prozac Miracle' are starting to come to light
