Anxiety 7 weeks after MDMA

Hello,

Its been 7 weeks since I used MDMA for the last time.

I have been using occasionally for two yers, on average once a month. But during past October I rolled four times, once per week, some of them a bit harder than usual. Altogether I did about 4 pills and something like 0.35g of crystal MDMA.

Last one was on Thursday October 31st, when i took half a pill that i had not tested. Everything was alright during the night though, the come up was cool as usual.

Problems started on Friday night. When I was trying to sleep I got this weird falling feeling, i think it was brain zaps, and also i felt a very strong anxiety. During the next two weeks I kept feeling dizzy, I was really sensitive to the light and strong noises, and it was hard for me to sleep. Also I had really strong headaches that would come and go.

Right now, most of this symptom are much better. But occasionally the anxiety comes back. It's weird, it is not like Im anxious about something, It is just this feeling of anguish and despair in my chest. Every time it disappears eventually, but it can last for several days, and I can not even sleep. It is really hard. I went out last night and had a few drinks and now Im feeling this again, really intense.

Has any of you gone through this or know if this is directly related to my MDMA consumption?

Do you think that my usage is enough to have caused me some permanent damage? Can I expect to recover from this?

I have talked to my friends about it, some of them do way more molly than I do, and can use quite often, weekly many of them, and they told me they have not been through something like this, neither heard about it.

So Im kind of lost, I don't really know what to do, and I cannot stop blaming myself for this.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Dcoqo.

Yeah its from the molly it will take a while to recover get your self some 5-htp supplements. Some long term effects can be present like headaches depression anxiety and memory loss.

B12 (methylcobalamin) is helpful for me, as is vitamin C and regular multi-vitamins.

I would totally expect full recovery. Your usage has not been excessive by any means. Just don't take any more and try not to obsess over your symptoms. All drugs have side effects, it's up to you whether those side effects are worth it...

I was really sensitive to the light and strong noises, and it was hard for me to sleep. Also I had really strong headaches that would come and go.

This statement here reminds of HPPD. Could it be that maybe?

Sensitivity to light, Strong noises...

The brain heals with time. Frequent re-dosing during a single session would do more damage than frequency of use, say, spread out over many weeks. Both are harmful, ultimately, but re-dosing in a single night is really what does it.

5-HTP is often promoted as a recovery tool but there's no evidence it does anything. It's the precursor to serotonin, but the problem with MDMA related damage is the downregulation of serotonin receptors. It doesn't matter how much serotonin is generated, if it's not being received on the receptor end.

My personal view is that after 7 weeks your brain should be well on its way to being healed. However, MDMA use can trigger latent anxiety disorders which have a mind of their own, which could possibly be what you're dealing with right now. It's not merely biochemical imbalance that causes anxiety but also our choice of thoughts, our mental hygiene, etc. If you are excessively worried then that could feed into a downward spiral all on its own.

I highly recommend reframing your situation and trying to calm down. Your occasional use is not going to ruin your life, but if you get this anxious about using MDMA then perhaps it would be wise to stop using it in order to avoid feeding worries and mental health problems.

Maybe, I thought about it. But that its mostly gone now, dont feel more sensible to lights than usual, and Im ok with noises now. So I guess that if it was HPPD it's mostly cured.

Thanks for your answer. According to what Ive seen here, I did too much and too often.

But it is hard for me to find people who have been through something similar and recovered.

Thanks for your answer.

Although almost every symptom has subsided, I still have occasional anxiety. When it comes it is really strong, and I can not control it. It feels really physiological, as it is not triggered by my thoughts or anything.

Do you know if this is a usual consequence of abusing mdma? Can i expect for it to be over?

Do you take care of your body? Do you take supplements, like vitamins or minerals? Do you eat really nourishing food?

Sometimes doing drugs depletes the body in other ways that has lasting effects which have nothing to do with the drug itself.

For example, I find high dose psychedelics really deplete my body of magnesium. If I don't supplement, then I start to get all the nervous system disorders associated with lack of mag. But I wouldn't know that if I hadn't experimented over the years.

I find that I really have to nourish the substance of my body when I do drugs like MDMA or psychedelics, otherwise I feel ungrounded and airy for a long time after.

^^^For me personally it’s stimulants and MDMA which deplete Magnesium. In fact I realized my (what I thought was permanent, it lasted 5yrs) tolerance to caffeine was in fact related to magnesium deficiency.

I found this out when I started supplementing magnesium l-threonate and drank a caffeine drink a week or two later and for the first time in years instead of it making me tired it made me energized.

Magnesium is one that everybody should look into and at least try for supplements.

I workout at the gym at least 4 times per week, as I also used to do before this comedown started. I think I eat a balanced diet, and I’ve taking magensium supplements.

what do you mean by ungrounded and airy?

Thank you for your response. Have you ever been through a long comedown like this?

I don’t feel headaches any more, and my memory is fine and even though I’m kind of feeling down all the time I wouldn’t say I’m depressed. But I keep feeling anxiety.

@Dcoqo Not sure if you are male or female, but I have had a similar experience due to the way a woman's menstrual cycle has high and low periods of serotonin & dopamine. I find that if I take MDMA close to the end of a cycle, that the following PMS will be unusually hard. Sometimes, this is true for two cycles. So, it can end up being a period of anxiety about 7 weeks later.

However, from your original post, it does seem that what you are experiencing is probably due to over-use. I have not ever done MDMA four weeks in a row, or even two weeks in a row. I used to use it about 1 time per month, and now it is more like 4 times per year. From watching friends and others who have over-used MDMA, I can say that drinking will make it much worse. Drinking depletes nutrients that you need in order to rebuild and repair. If I were you, I would really try to support my nutrient levels. Vitamin patches are great. The D + magnesium patch from Patch MD will really help with your sleep. If you can't get that, then plain magnesium will really help you with sleeping abnormalities. I use a chelated magnesium from Doctor's Best for sleep.

You have not permanently damaged yourself, but you need to take extra care of yourself for awhile until you stabilize. You may want to avoid drinking for awhile until everything is back to normal.
