The 2019 Trump Presidency Thread

if he can’t then she can’t.
It may turn out to be a poor decision by the judges.
Cortez, perhaps more than any other radical leftist, compulsively blocks millions of critics.
If politicians can not block anyone, then what about all other government-affiliated accounts ?
I don't think this decision will stand for long.

do you think the tweets are racist? "go back to the country you came from" is white-supremacist language 101.

a few republicans have had the balls to come out and denounce the tweets...

I haven't heard Reps say anything, in quite awhile, tbh.

Do -I- think the tweet is racist? No. But I tend to let stuff go and not dig too deep looking to take offense on a lot of things. That's not a reflection on what you put as 'white-supremacist language 101' but in general I make the effort not to take, or look for, offense in other people's comments. If they are intent on insulting or offending, they'll find a way to ensure I can't miss it.

^ i think there's some idelogical and generational tension there. they need to sort out their beef and get back to focusing on a unified democratic message.

on the trump tweet, i didn't ask if it was offensive nor whether you personally took offense. i asked if you felt it was racist telling brown-skinned u.s. citizens to go back to where they came from.

why do you feel it's not racist?

a handful of comments from republicans:

"...the President interjected with unacceptable personal attacks and racially offensive language...No matter our political disagreements, aiming for the lowest common denominator will only divide our nation further." (sen. tim scott, south carolina)

"...but the President's tweet that some Members of Congress should go back to the 'places from which they came' was way over the line, and he should take that down." (sen. susan collins, maine)

"That's not something I would say, and I think it's divisive, unnecessary and wrong." (sen. rob portman, ohio)

"I think those tweets are racist, and xenophobic...They're also inaccurate. The four women he's referring to are actually citizens of the United States. Three of the four were born here. It's also behavior that's unbecoming of the leader of the free world. He should be talking about things that unite, not divide us." (rep. will hurd, texas)

"I urge our President immediately disavow his comments." (rep. pete olson, texas)

"Frankly I'm appalled by the President's tweets...There's no excuse. Inflammatory rhetoric from both sides of the aisle that is used to divide us just isn't right. It's not helpful." (rep. fred upton, michigan)

"@realDonaldTrump's tweets from this weekend were racist and he should apologize. We must work as a country to rise above hate, not enable it." (rep. mike turner, ohio)

"There is no excuse for the president's spiteful comments -- they were absolutely unacceptable and this needs to stop" (sen. lisa murkowski, alaska)

there are more.

The line that strikes me as most racist is "Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. "

Obviously context matters, however it's obvious who he is referring to.

It's interesting how dog whistles can be so loud. Loyal base is loyal.

Do -I- think the tweet is racist? No.

As to why, I answered that as well - I don't look for offense (racism in this case) in every statement I hear. You asked my view and I gave it. To clarify, I'm not stating 'if I take offense', but if words are should be 'taken to be offensive to anyone' in my view. Racism is very offensive in my view, this tweet not strike me as offensive by my standards. There are people who can take offense to being told 'have a good day' or 'bless you'. Again, I don't look for offense in every statement I hear.

I can't read the man's mind. I doubt he knows whats going on in their either. But I read it along the lines of 'GTFO'.

It's interesting how dog whistles can be so loud. Loyal base is loyal.

And those who seek to find offense (or racism) can find it so clearly. Haters gonna hate.

you're implying i do?

i don't think that's accurate and, if i mistook, apologies.

i agree that those who go looking for racism tend to see it everywhere. just like those who excuse or make apologies for trump tend to never see it...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It reminds me of his birther-ism phase.

Obama isn't as relevant so he has to get his illegitimate racists thoughts out on someone else.

These are American citizens. Where is his pride?

I'm not implying anything at all about you. I'm a lot more blunt than that, as implying things leads to muddying the waters and confusing a discussion. I try not to use 'implying' in my discussions, just as I tend to miss when others 'imply' things in their statements...I miss those a lot.

Can you quote the questions you have in mind?

As far as being more direct, sure.

I think that you aren't pleased to hear that I still care.

EDIT by TLB as the tweets are a draft of a later post

8( :? w0lf, YOU quoted ME

I'm actually pleased to hear someone still cares.

Care to look past the one line you selected to quote from me?

To be honest, I haven't moved on from the attack on Obama's birthplace. It left a bad taste in mouth that I won't soon forget.

Interesting. I'm actually pleased to hear someone still cares. As I didn't pay enough attention to it, and it seems to have stuck with you, can you enlighten me on the following:
1 - was an official investigation done?
2 - if so what were the findings?
3 - if no investigation, why not?
4 - why did it drop from media attention?

The discussion was nearly 2 months old, but you quoted from it to sample whatever line you wanted to quote for a reason I have yet to understand. At this point, I don't care if you answer the questions or not. I just find it odd for someone to quote me from a post they never answered in a way that is trying to make a point to me. The point I'm taking from it is you never answered.

Again, if you have a question, please just ask. It really is that simple.

The 2 month old discussion is about a 2 year old+ topic; birtherism.

It's relevant to the tweet. I'm sorry if you can't see it. Sleep on it?

We're talking past each other. I did not have a question for you in the immediate sense - I get your connection that Trump was making an issue of Obama's birthplace, likewise he is making an issue of these four's national allegiance to not being the US. I get your point of how he uses 'Mericuh as a concept against others and don't have a question.

The questions I am surprised you didn't answer are in what I just quoted....my words that YOU quoted, when I asked questions months ago and you ignored them. That was the only set of questions I was raising at this time. As I said, I don't care at this point if you do or don't answer them, though I always appreciate learning more and welcome the answers. It just struck me odd you'd select a line from my post which also points out you never answered my questions. That's all.
