I know that album you talked about, I have a ripped copy of it from Youtube, if memory serves me well it was recorded in some Swedish church.

I got this on myself atm..............

This was the first Sunn album my ex heard, the look upon her face when the first bit of the classic Sunn drone kicked in was classic, she was & still is into "Nu Metal" & thinks bands like Burzum are too noisy..............weird thing is she is now a fan of Sunn, her daughter grassed her up to me though, she was having lady fun with the Sunn albums via the subwoofer.

Out of all the Sunn albums I have it is right up there in terms of crushing music, I so wish Sunn would have done an album with a proper "Southern Sludge band, I dream of them hooking up with someone like Buzzoven.

Yup, they have been one of my favorite bands for some time.

Glad you appreciated it, but not sure why you "didn't hold out much hope" LOL.

Not to pat myself on the back, and everyone likes different styles, but like you (cause I can tell you are a long time serious "head" from your posts), I know my metal and have put SERIOUS time and effort into finding stuff that I PERSONALLY like and researching all the history surrounding my favorite styles.

If you like Knelt Rote then keep an eye on my posts cause though I don't usually post here often, they are pretty much a perfect example of one of my favorite styles to listen to.

Lord Mantis--Perverter of the Will

Another pretty sick band I've come to like that mixes styles.

Most people would consider them "blackened-sludge", though this track doesn't have that much sludge I don't think, but they are certainly not a typical black metal band either.

Love the sick cover art lol.

 
I still haven't stopped listening to periphery since I first found out about them over a month ago

 
Black Arrows of Filth and Impurity

Discovered this band a while back and not much is known about them but damn are they crazy. Not quite sure what to call it, some kind of mix of harsh noise/power electronics, black metal and maybe a tad bit of grind in there? Kind of just a little bit like Gnaw Their Tongues or Axis of Perdition which are both good but more frenetic:

Noothgrush are one of those bands that just seem to wrap up how some people feel so well.
Black Metal is hard to wrap up in a simple package in my view, it is for walks in forests late at night, Norwegian winters as the snow comes down etc, Sludge is for daily life when you look around at the planet & the people I have to share it with & you see hoe badly they suck & are so rubbish, the sounds of opiate withdrawl, depression, coffee & nicotine withdrawl etc.
As much as I love DSBM & raw "true" black metal (NONE of that fucking dumb corpse paint, teenage Burzum fan, living with your parents & into Odin worship as told to the world via your Facebook page) Sludge is for pushing those kinda people off a cliff.
