The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

I'm not going through all those. I've seen many polls where democrats are sampled at +10 etc however. I don't even think Rasmussen is perfect, if it is important to the some on the forum to believe Trump is unpopular have at it.

People generally fucking hate him in Massachusetts. I think I'm going to start wearing a MAGA hat so I can legally beat people up (dealing with punks assaulting me/self defense.)

^ most presidents end with a low approval e.g.

carter: 48.1% compared to a high of 74.9%
reagan: 42.0% compared to a high of 68%
bush: 66.0% compared to a high of 78.3%
clinton: 44.4% compared to a high of 60.9%
bush: 62.8% compared to a high of 88.1%
obama: 46.7% compared to a high of 65.3%

First, you get a <3 for use of 538. I, personally, love how they apply statistics to all kinds of stuff.

Second, you're right, Presidents leave on a low. I'd imagine the trend goes back further than just those six.

I don't trust 538 at all after they badly miscalled Trump's election.

Really, I have a hard time finding anyone who called Trump's election accurately. While many on the right claim MSM bias...I can neither deny or accept that claim. I can't figure out HOW they could all be so wrong. I honestly have no historical perspective on how often the are wrong, or by how much. But with the steady brightening of the spotlights in politics over the past few decades, it seems (IMO) that MSM is trying too hard to have an answer instead of report facts, and it leads them to commit to a position that ends up wrong. I won't jump into the group that claims Dems+MSM sitting in a tree, as I still want to believe in independent journalism. But others are presenting more and more evidence of bias.

Ok, don't go thru all those. Just know you are undercutting your credibility when you throw out a single source then wave a hand to disregard multiple sources that counter your point.

He?s deeply unpopular in certain parts of the nation.

It should be telling when fiscal conservatives like myself also despise him.

Not sure how well the mods will let it fly, as it deviates from Trump directly but is related...I'm wondering how the fall elections turn out. Again, MSM has steadily claimed a blue wave, but I'm seeing the gaps shrink as we get closer to election time. Are they hedging their bets? Is there anything credible that said the Dems WERE going strong and now they are falling off?

I'm kinda with what I've seen several state to where their local politics don't make a whole lot of sense. For example, areas known to vote one way are throwing signs in their yards to support the other side? I truly have no idea which direction things will go in a month. But I am very interested to see what kind of dynamics are at play. And while I did put this in Trump's thread, I'm not sure how much of a weight he puts in the equation. Yeah, there is a large group that hates him, loudly and visibly. There's also a slightly quieter, but still pretty loud and visible, group that supports what he is doing. Then you have the masses who aren't so loud or visible...wtf are they thinking and will they show up to the polls to push things one way or another? This intrigues me...that silent majority, and what they really think about current politics. I've never cared about midterm elections. I'm your typical presidential voter (though not party tied). I may even vote next month...and even I don't know wtf I'm going to do. :D

please, please wear a MAGA hat and tell us when some hispanic dude steals your hat and throws a drink in your face. Maybe you can have three white 18 year old racist friends of yours video tape the whole thing from their iPhone X's and you can post it to youtube because HOW DARE THEY. How DARE someone stand up against ignorance and intolerance?

I know when my grandpa fought in WWII, Vietnam, Korea, he did that so he could come home and make racially insensitive remarks. Totally not to bring peace, prosperity, democracy, freedom and basic human rights to the world. Oh, no, that's pointless. :|

Those hats looks so stupid on them... OMG especially on Trump. I wish they knew how much we laugh at them when they were those mostly made in China hats.

An old guy who thinks he's a bad ass but when it's time to throw blows he sues instead... That guy is Jan Brady tough. Watch out... he'll sue.

Gives people little dumb nick names like he's 8 yrs old. "The failing NY Times." Errrrrr. NY Times is doing very well. He must thinks he's the coolest kid in elementary school.

He always talks (and he will) about how smart he is over and over and over. In my experience the ones that go on and on are usually the ones that are the dumbest and they know it... He knows he's dumb.

Where I live he is VERY unpopular. I can't think of one person I know that likes him.

My grandfather fought in the Korean War too... He would be rolling around in his grave if he saw what Trump has done to our dignity and respect around the world. His supporters really think the world respects us because of his racist rhetoric and tough TALK. They don't... They laugh at us because of him. The UK has had massive anti Trump protests...that's like almost unheard of in the UK.

Let's not even talk about those Chinese tariffs he's trying to throw billions of dollars set aside for emergencies at. Hoping that the public doesn't find out just how badly people and business are being hurt by a problem HE created... Holy shit... Are you fucking kidding me. He must be very intelligent.

Mr. Treezy... Who cares if those article links I sent you were old that just proves my point even more. That just goes to show that your poll "source" has been inaccurate for a very long time lol

It's the same thing if you ask me. The freedom to be a racist idiot is no more or less important than any other freedom.

Also, you can stand up to someone with mildly assaulting them or stealing from them. You have the freedom to call their hat stupid (which it is), or that they're an idiot.

I mean I get what you're saying, and honestly I don't really care if someone took that hat and threw it into the river. Good for them. But, it is illegal and rightfully so. So, do it, just don't get caught doing it.

Personally one thing I do like about MAGA hats and tshits and shit, is they're a totally legal and voluntary way for trump supporters to be identified so that the rest of us know to avoid them.

I tell you what. I spent almost a year working at a home improvement store. Old white men would come in there and hold me past my shift to tel me aboyt their love for trump and their hate for democrats. aNd I would just stand there and listen. Because what does it fuxcking mater. I'm in the south, so my opinion aint shit.

I'm also drunk.

And jess has a point. Trump stickers on trucks and "Jeeps" if you can cakll them that here with the urban cowboys, give me a good excuse to udse my tiny miata to cur off peeps in traffic.

you cant stop people from being bigoted douchebags and spewing hate. people are free to think and express themselves however they like - within reason, ofc, your rights end where another's begin; nobody has the right to express themselves with violence against others, for example (ie, "its my deeply held religious belief that non-whites/non-straights/non-christians/etc are inferior biengs, created by Satan, and its our holy duty to wipe them from the face of this Paradise left to us by God!"). what is meant is that they believe that organized and systemic bigotry and oppression should be allowed, even encouraged.

It depends on where you are. Where I am, and among people in my life, Trump is almost universally reviled. If I wasn't participating in online conversations like this there is no way I would believe that he had even a remote chance of being re-elected. From my local perspective, everyone thinks he's a joke and he's on his way to being considered, in hindsight, the least qualified president in US history. My point with this post is not to ridicule Trump, it's to illustrate that perception of the state of the presidency is heavily biased to where you're standing.

There's totally legitimate reasons to be against the democrats, Obama, etc. and to like what Trump is doing. Unfortunately most Trump supporters are really fucking stupid and got suckered in by the hysterics and juvenile antics of a blown out ex-reality TV star gone mad and drunk with power.

If you're rich and I mean really rich, and you hate the inheritance tax, or how heavily the rich are taxed, luxury taxes etc. I can appreciate a vote in the other way. I mean, really, but this isn't the average Republican. It's not.

^I'll never say I don't understand why people like Trump and hate democrats. I hate the democrats and I'm part of their base. And I get that white men are feeling threatened. I must admit for most of the past few years I've felt a great frustration at my being white and male getting me nowhere yet people acting like it's special still.

But people like Trump for all the wrong reasons. Most of the folks I meet who like him seem to think the tax cuts are going to help them and silly shit like that. Or that somehow Trump will single-handedly make it so that white males do indeed have automatic privilege. By all means, if Trump was actually able to fulfill some of his 'promises', I should be his biggest fan. I would love if my being white and male got me a good job. Or power. Or any benefits at all really. But even so, I know Trump can't achieve that, and for that matter, I don't think it's right morally.

I do kinda feel like things such as affirmative action should be ended, at least in terms of quotas. Being of a minority doesn't automatically make you a better candidate for a job or schooling, yet you can be passed over for opportunities as a better candidate if you're not a minority. I just can't agree with such a lack of logic.

Obviously anti-bias laws should remain, I just think the quotas are counter-productive.

and to like what Trump is doing.

if you're a white supremacist or billionaire, or are always lost fantasizing about how one day you'll be the one wearing the boots on your neck, sure. but what about for the rest of us?

there's defo legit reasons to be against democrats, but being "against democrats" and "for trump" are not the same thing, not even close. i'm against democrats because they're simply a less bigoted version of the republicans, but i'm also a pragmatist and know that insisting on all-or-nothing ideological purity wont get us anywhere, so until the US has an actual progressive/leftist party or our elections stop being a choice of the lesser of 2 evils, my best choice is supporting dems and pushing them left.

bernie would have won. he needs to start an actual progressive party, it would immediately supplant the democrat party and then people who arent right wing conservative authoritarians would actually start being represented in this country.

dems are def the lesser of the 2 evils though, especially since the other evil is outright christofascism. short of bernie becoming the head of a new party, our best option is to supplant "establishment" democrats with progressives, and push the party as far left as we can every chance we get - if we can do that enough we might actually end up with something close to a centrist party! we gotta fight the ratchet effect tho (republicans keep pushing things further and further right while democrats keep blocking every movement away from the extreme right, back towards the center).

^^ I like that word Tath, 'Christofascism'. Very apt.

Modern Christofascism is what drove me away from Catholicism and the Republican party as I aged. Also because Catholics hate sex and I'm a sexaholic.

Some political lady just knocked on my door and ask me what's my number one goal for the elections... without even thinking I said "getting rid of trump..." and she said "I've been doing this everyday for the last 2 months and 99% of people say the exact same thing."
