past is beautiful; present is ugly.

second time watching but didn?t get it down in writing first time. the past scenes are shot on film and look great and the present is shot on digital with bad post- exaggerating the warm vs cool colors. i think.

^ One film I thought Ryan Gosling shone in, brightly, as an actor. Michelle Williams was beautiful; her acting shone in Brokeback Mountain more, imho - she never got the scope of range beyone pretty blonde actress, unfortunately - so much more potential but not enough decent roles afforded to her, imho.


Enjoyed. Good show, nothing too exciting but sweet story and beautifully directed.

I watched it the other week and really enjoyed it. I ended up watching it before Resolution which was released before it. It's plot centers around the meth head and his buddy. Both can be watched as stand alone movies though. Thankfully I went into both without the trailer thankfully


Anybody here seen the Banshee Chapter
first 5-10 min spoilers

The description says found footage but that's only the first 10 mins. It start off with 2 friends making a video trip report of one of them consuming a dmt analog(fictional) they got in the mail. After one of them consumes it he starts hearing this number station like melody in his head and ends up going missing and the other dude is a suspect. His friend that is a freelance journalist doesn't believe that and goes to find the real truth. It's not the type of movie you'd want to watch tripping though.

This is on my list- excited to see a decent movie/narrative. Much needed :)
 
The Lost Boys

the opening scene with the 80s music and overhead shots of the boardwalk with all the lights had me hopeful. the scene where the family first rolls into town is well styled too. but overall the movie is random and silly. and the girl is not appealing. i can see why there?s a cult following; i?m not part of it.
 
Emelie - horror movie on Netflix. Intense. Just watched it. It's almost midnight and I have to work in the morning but I'm going to have to watch an episode of Shameless or something to get it out of my head before I can sleep.
 
Gerald's Game - based on the Stephen King novel. I thought the movie adaptation was pretty good with Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood.
 
No Estamos Solos (We are not Alone) - Peruvian horror film. Classic haunted house/possession story in the mold of The Exorcist. ​Very effective and chilling.

Just finished watching, Castlerock ;Hulu Series 1 - enamoured ( but am an old fan, so beyond biased).




...got around to experience first 2 episodes of Mr. Mercedes - thoroughly epic, so far! :)



Major, King-adaptation-binge atm - me gusta.

Sacrilege! :p It's the 80's '... silly', is a requisite of the temporal context. 'Random...', however, it was not; if you investigate the context upon which the ideas, concepts and archetypes where based (and drawn from) - not too hi-brow (Sam donned a Mondrianesque robe though, tbf );was pop-film but given the actual context - it certainly was not 'random'. ;)

Thought, Jamie Gertz', in her role as, Star was very beautiful but agree that as love-interest, was stilted but most female secondaries att were just that, in pop-movies. Characters were not developed; it was more like a graphic-novel type scenario, as befitting the 80's pop-audience. Bums on seats and all that.

Past/Present Splitscreen by a french cultist(obviously in love with C. Haim). - nostalgo porno for LB victims. ;)

Saw Christopher Robin in the movie theater today. It was much better than I had anticipated and was actually very funny. I do love me some Ewan McGregor too. He did a great job reacting to the animals and his interactions with Pooh were the best parts of the movie. Are the actors actually looking at something in these types of movies?(like Ted if not sure what I mean).

If you like Winnie the Pooh (and if you don't you may be a terrible person, sorry) or like good movies then I also highly recommend a much more realistic movie and unfortunately, much sadder, which is Goodbye Christopher Robin. It came out just last year starring Domhnall Gleeson and Margot Robbie. Really great acting and story telling. I thought it might be a bit dull, but it's paced very well, and moves along quickly. It was well casted, especially with the boy who plays young Christopher Robin.

It's interesting how so much pain could exist behind something that brings so many other people happiness.

LOVE that movie! Sam Neill is so great in it. My ex wife is from New Hampshire and I've been to my share of small NH towns that resemble Hobbs End.

Watched Dark Places on Netflix. Murder-mystery with a fantastic cast including Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, Drea di Matteo and Christina Hendricks.

Life After Beth

last straw; i do not like aubrey plaza. she’s so great in Parks and Recreation that’s it’s taken years of disliking her in everything else to move on. she should give up movies and do standup. so deadpan and awkward (and pretty) that she wouldn’t even need good jokes to pull it off.

if this movie got a single laugh out of me, it was john c reilly‘s doing.

did appreciate the lennie scene with hiking in place of soft rabbits.

Okay comedy. I laughed quite a bit for the first half, but by the last quarter of the film, I had fallen asleep in my chair. Only woke up once the credits started rolling. Great cast, funny plot. Just too long honestly. Not really worth a second watch.

Top Gun

Seen it a few times before, but only when I was younger. Tom Cruise is starting to become a favorite of mine, mostly because I rewatched Eyes Wide Shut again the same night. I've heard it argued that this movie is about Tom Cruise trying to figure out if he's gay lol. Same with Eyes Wide Shut. The argument holds fast more for Top Gun, but I don't think that was the true point. I really enjoyed Top Gun this time 'round, and the Kenny Logins/Berlin songs were fantastically applied. Not the best of films, but extremely enjoyable for what it is. Will definitely be watching again and again.

Eyes Wide Shut

Words cannot describe how deep and meaningful I find this film. It's Kubrick's crowning achievement, even over Clockwork Orange and 2001 and Barry Lyndon, and I do not say that lightly. If you haven't seen this movie, see it. Especially if you're married/in a long term relationship. No other film speaks to me about marriage like this one does. I never knew Tom Cruise could act until this film.

Also, Nicole Kidman. 'Nuff said.
