What is a good taper to get off 25mg methadone

101 days- I guess this makes me one of the "old farts" in the "got-sober" section :-)

I don't think about methadone at all anymore (except while I'm writing this). Thinking back, I remember those monthly visits the "pain clinic" where they required surprise urine tests to get the monthly prescription. How many of you (like me) would guzzle water to make sure you could pee, then by the time you get to the clinic 45 minutes later, you feel like you have to pee so bad you won't last another minute only to have the receptionist bark "sit down until I call your name" while slamming the glass partition shut. I remember seeing one lady sitting in the waiting room with her legs crossed so tight they looked like twist-ties. It was always such a relief to leave with an empty bladder (and a new prescription. :-)

Remember all those warning labels they stuck on the pill bottles (like "Don't drive until you know how this medication will affect you" and they give the prescription to you in the drive-through window). I remember Cialis had the dumbest warning - 'If you have an erection for more than four hours, you should call a doctor.' Well, if I've got an erection for more than four hours, I'm going to call a hooker.

So what do I do with all my sober and bored time now: Y'all probably wondering right. I do have a great suggestion: If your ceiling fan can hold your weight, you won't ever be bored again. I play a lot of "Solitaire" too - a game that combines the charm of a pentagon briefing with the excitement of double-entry bookkeeping.

I suppose I could clean the house too. When it gets really messy, I tune to Hoarders. Then my house starts looking pretty good. In case someone wants to come over, I have sign on my front door that says "I Cleaned House Yesterday - Sorry You Missed It. Besides, a clean house is a sign of a bad internet connection.

You ever wonder why some people don't take their iPhones with them to the bathroom? It's because they don't want to give away their IP address :-)

Congratulations on your 100 day milestone. That is a big accomplishment. Luckily my dr would just have me come in every 2 months and get 390 methadone pills. It was so many pills that the dust would mess the pharmacy's auto pill counter up they had to triple count or I would make them count in front of me . Over the course of a few months I kept ending up short on my script count. Then I found out that an employee was stealing the pain pills from the patient's pill bottles. I would be like 5 days short . Do you think I ever got an apology for blaming me for taking extra , nope . One more burden lifted off these shoulders of mine .

Hi Everyone - it's been a while since I posted an update, so it's time.

I am still "clean" and I am doing okay. I've had no temptation at all, and aside from a flu bug of some kind and a lingering sore throat, I feel pretty good. I've been keeping busy pretty much every day and am spending more time at my sister's house. Some of you might remember that she and I had a long spell we didn't talk. We've worked that out and things are going great. I also mentioned at one point or another that my brother wasn't in good health and I wanted to go see him - my flight is now booked (early September).

I still wake up every morning with pain (was chronic pain patient), but now I shift positions until it doesn't hurt as much where before I would just take pain meds and stay in the same position until the meds kicked in and it didn't hurt - which likely made it worse and more frequent. I could also keep going with whatever I was doing during the day before because I didn't feel pain as much; now I have learned to stop what I'm doing before the pain gets worse. I am okay with the slower pace. I also use aspirin every day. I wish I didn't feel it, but I know we all do to some extent and - for me - I am in a better place now even with pain that I was when I had to deal with all the b.s. of staying on methadone.

I wish I could actually share the feeling of peace and well being that comes with being sober again. Each of us has to get there on our own, but I tell you with all my heart that it is a far better way to live for me.

:) Happy Friday Everyone!

What a lovely update my dear friend.

I honestly couldn't be happier for you Dale. You've gone through your quit with grace and style ( well maybe not counting the beginning GI issues..lol ; ) and you've come out the other side, showing others now it can be done, and giving help and more importantly hope to others reading your progress.

Keep being you Dale, we all love and appreciate you around here, more than you know.

Have a great day Dale/Yoda. ; )

Love,
your friend,
Ash.

Looks like you found you "priorities" . Drugs definitely change those up for the worst . My sister lives a few hrs away from me and I only see her when she comes home. I hate to here that about your brothers health. You definitely need to spend as much time as possible with him . You've paid the piper and your free now. You deserve a tropical vacation too .

Hi Everyone -

How are you making it Dale ? I know your from California and wanted to tell you we are seeing smoke all the way here in Tennessee from the California fires . I'll keep you guys in our prayers .

Hi hik, you wrote:

Thanks for being concerned, but the fires are pretty far from me. I live in the city and the fires are probably 40 miles from me at the closest. I'm close to the Pacific Ocean too, and we almost always get a breeze blowing inland - and that keeps the smoke and fire headed the other way for the most part.

Stoned Guy who accidentally set his house in fire: Hello, fire department, my house is on fire - please help!
Fire Department: Okay, we'll come right away - how to we get there?
Stoned Guy: DUH - in the big red truck :-)

Dale

^ I'll watch the video when I have some more free time, but I was reading an article recently in the Boston Globe about the Mass. State Cops running into problems because while the saliva test they use can tell if THC is in someone's system, it doesn't give an indication of how impaired that person is. But then I thought about when I got my DUI, I was taken to a hospital for blood testing for BAC and other drugs because some counties in Tennessee only use blood evidence and don't rely on a breathalyzer. It seems to me if a cop has probable cause to pull someone over for DUI and they test positive on the saliva test that THC levels could then be measured using blood. That article didn't make much sense to me.

aihfl - You really should watch the video - it's less than 2 minutes long, and it isn't what you think.

What do politicians and hookers have in common?
Answer: They are both experts at switching positions in front of the camera :-)

OMG , that video is hilarious. She reached for the cookie dough and that was the final test . Canada also did a public no smoking campaign commercial that has the Fubar movie characters Terry and Dean . I'll see if I can find it on YouTube and post it. I'm on android so it may be a YouTube link.
