The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

He's spiteful and nasty. He incites violence at his rallies, and is openly racist, openly sexist and transphobic.

The whole administration has that mean spirited hateful vibe. Every time Trump turns on one of his people and fires them the other supporters are left to cheer the hateful move. Pretty soon Trump will have no one left and turn on himself and we will still hear cheering from those same supporters.

Look what happens with a family that does not have a nurturing caring loving vibe. They fall apart. This is simple logic at this point.

John Brennan the ex CIA chief was just on a morning news show talking about how mean spirited antics will tear us apart. He vocalized everything some of us think. And he is no wilting flower. He is a tough bastard.

Donald Trump said:
Because of the $700 & $716 Billion Dollars gotten to rebuild our Military, many jobs are created and our Military is again rich. Building a great Border Wall, with drugs (poison) and enemy combatants pouring into our Country, is all about National Defense. Build WALL through M!

Build the wall through the military.
I'm also not sure why some on the left have a problem with border security. Bill Clinton and Obama (plus others) have stated we need a border wall.

Donald Trump said:
Much can be done with the $1.6 Billion given to building and fixing the border wall. It is just a down payment. Work will start immediately. The rest of the money will come - and remember DACA, the Democrats abandoned you (but we will not)!

The wall will be built, and if there's any justice left in the country Clinton will die in jail.

Politicians should not be able to get away with crimes, don't care how powerful they are (you'd agree with this if Trump got caught being loose with classfied docs)
Ummm... He has been caught doing such things. Anyone recall when the guy with the nuclear football was getting his picture taken with tourists at Mar-a-Lago? For fucks sake... That's irresponsible as shit. I couldn't give two fucks about emails when our nation's nuclear codes are being flagrantly flaunted around so any joe shmoe with a plan could literally attempt destruction of the entire planet due to Trump's negligence.

For what it's worth it tends to apply both ways around. If something bad happens which is the last guys fault, the person there now gets the blame.
And does ANYONE recall that the economic collapse of 2008 was a result of policies enacted and trumpeted during the Bush Jr. years? Oh yeah, it's Obama's fault when the economy collapsed months into his administration. Clinton made the economy boom in the nineties rightttt??? And Trump is just so magical that in one month after his presidency things started to clear up; couldn't be that it just took 8 years of Obama fixing Jr.s bullshit for things to finally turn around could it? Nah, Trump's just the smartest man on the planet. He can't even string together a sentence or keep his companies from going under, but he fixed the economy in a month flat!

Jesus fucking Christ. This world is going to hell and people behind Trump are all too happy to cheer along as the ship sinks.

You know, not wanting to defend trump, but his is hardly the first administration to mishandled the football or the biscuit. And just to be clear, neither by themselves one can be used to fire a nuke. The football is largely strike options. There's no codes in the football. Secret strike plans yes, but no codes. Even if you had both you'd have difficulty doing it since in theory the secretary of defense is supposed to verify the order and it needs to be communicated over a secure channel. But anyways...

Point is, as I seem to recall the Obama administration once left the aid with the football behind when the motorcade left. And Bill Clinton as I recall covered up having lost the biscuit for months. Which really does have the codes. This staff helped cover it up by stonewalling the military officials in charge of checking its security. Jimmy Carter left the codes with his dry cleaner. But again, there's more to it than just having the biscuit by itself. I might have the specific presidents wrong, shouldn't be hard to find with Google if you want more specifics.

To be honest I think those whole mishandling of secrets shit is a stunt all around. Neither side truly cares, both just use it as an excuse to want to hurt political opponents. It's bullshit. Secrets are mishandled every day without the world ending.

Fair enough.

Indeed.

I'm trying to figure out in which channel this will be on although it's almost 4 am here.

Yep. Trump was elected on the back of a whole lot of hate and resentment that was nurtured and formented by some pretty elaborate and technical propaganda.
Some people are apparently happy to watch their country slide into an authoritarian kleptocracy because it panders to their bigotry and prejudice.
It's pretty fucking tragic.

Note also the absolutely shameless dishonesty his supporters exhibit when they defend the short fingered vulgarian.

I've lost count of how many times trump people have demanded i show 'evidence' that trump is a racist.

It's not often that i praise white supremacists (lol) but at least they tend to be honest about what they believe - but it's frankly impossible to take the claim that trump "means well" seriously.
He's nasty, spiteful and vindictive.

No amount of spin, or revisionism (or whatever fancy words we use to describe bullshit [let's not beat around in the bush]) can cover the utter spitefulness of trump.

I just hope that the country and its insititutions can withstand the implosion of the white house.
Fear and division helped him and his shady team win - but there is strength in unity - not division.

I hope americans are able to come together in the wake of all this and clean up the mess trump has made, but i suspect the deep divisions he has cultivated and exploited will leave some wounds that will take a very long time to heal.

^what caused people to vote Trump in? Do you know how many people voted for Obama twice and then Trump? Why did they do this? Did Obama turn them all into racists? Or did he utterly fail them causing them to lose faith and trust in career politicians?

You realize there was a huge mess before Trump even decided to run? Of course you do this is obvious. That's one of the reasons why he won. "America is stupid and racist" is not an acceptable explanation for Trump's win.

And the goals ... that he'd lock Clinton up.

to be fair, he said that he'd lock her up, but also that he had no intention to lock her up, that he didnt want to hurt her because the clintons are "good people". its easy to appear to keep your promises when you promise something and/i] its exact opposite, and your base is a bunch of willfully ignorant, delusional cultist authoritarians who claim anything that doesnt agree with dear leader is "fake news".

if Trump got caught being loose with classfied docs

he has. worse even. several times.

Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador

Trump handled news of North Korea’s missile launch at his private club, rather than the situation room, raising an array of ethical and national security issues

Dem senator calls out Trump for leaving key to apparent classified info exposed

classified.key_.jpg

and thats just for a start.

^what caused people to vote Trump in?

authoritarianism, elitism, bigotry, xenophobia, and entitlement.

Literally pretty much everyone I know (locally) who voted in 2016....voted for Trump. No one I hang with, nor my family, are white supremacist. The idea that he was elected on the back of hate is tiring and shows a total lack of understanding of the average Trump voter...as I know them to be (locally). Ps....many were Obama voters.

at least not that you know of. but regardless of whether they're openly white supremacists or not, or whether they're willing to admit it, they're clearly fine with supporting white supremacist identity politics, which makes them de facto white supremacists.

It was a combination of trumps hatred towards minorities (you can't argue that most people are in fact racist and that this really motivated his base) and HIllary cheating in the primary and being a cunt-bin of lies and scandal.

You're deluding yourself if you don't believe most people are racist. All races are racist against others. Most blacks are racists...Chinese are extremely racist, muslims are racist (I mean they are constantly killing eachother back home for being from different sects)

You're smoking crack if you deny racism is rampant

Lots of questions, but i don't know anyone who voted for trump.
All of my american friends and family hate him and the disgusting bullshit he's empowered.

"America is stupid and racist". Did i say this, or are you putting words into my mouth?

You know, even if most Trump voters aren't racist or white Supremicist, it can still be the case that a sizable minority of racists made up enough of his vote for him to win. That would still mean he got in in part because of racists and such.

I do agree with you though, I don't think most Trump voters are white supremacists. I think most Trump voters are stupid.

why does it have to be a total lack of understanding? it couldn't simply be a different perspective?

i don't think the bulk of trump voters were driven by hate but he has undoubtedly emboldened haters and he's certainly said some pretty hateful things in office.

i think a lot of trump voters did want change and i think they got it. the administration is a shambles with many key positions not filled and other positions losing people almost daily. i think people genuinely believed him when he said things like he would never take vacations. well, he takes a lot of vacation so that was just a cynical bullshit lie. and there are hundreds and hundreds of other examples. he lies so freely and frequently, and many of his supporters seem to not care about it at all - that he's devalued the truth with 'fake news' and 'alternative facts'. it's utterly surreal.

he said he'd immediately repeal and replace obamacare. it would be easy. he was the only person who could do it. fast forward a month and it's “nobody knew that health care could be so complicated". nope! thanks for playing! absolutely fucking everybody knew that health care was complicated.

he was going to build a wall and make mexico pay for it. well, he's trying to build this wall but his world famous negotiating skills seem to have come up a little short (mexican president vicent fox is quoted as saying "I said, I’m not paying for that fucking wall" :) ) so now he's asking us to play for it. billions of dollars.

and the list is seemingly endless. when he's not appointing people who are woefully unqualified to do their jobs (e.g. betsy devos) or playing golf again (after giving obama so much shit for playing golf) he's tweeting insults at senators or representatives, celebrities, the news media, other world leaders, and plain old u.s. citizens. you know, the people who pay him and for whom he works.

he's an absolute disgrace to the office.

alasdair

How can you claim to be an expert negotiator when also absolutely despise compromise or not getting your own way and when you repeatedly insult everyone around you?
