People want to be a part of a culture that puts a premium on delivering the truth. They desire their leaders to be proactive in sharing where the community is headed and forthright about its future. In other words, they just want transparency so they can plan and protect themselves.
.

transparency is good in a democracy, where all transparency does is let the people check to make sure their employees are doing their jobs properly. but that doesnt mean it would be a good thing to have everywhere.

What is this government shut out? I read that 2 million us troops will not be getting paid.
Thats messed up.

the government is shut down. for the first time when everything was controlled by a single party. record time too, barely even a year. at least trump is setting new records!

sup ds. hows rehab and such?

I don't really care about politricks

I'm just here to bug you. =D

finally, some honesty! :D you're great at debating, even for premises you dont personally agree with. by that metric, you set a fine example and we need more people like you. thats not the only metric tho, but nobody's perfect.

Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) proposed a resolution to make sure military pay and death benefits were secure during the shutdown. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) didn't let a vote happen. How the democrats "letting" the shutdown happen will hurt the military has been a talking point for GOP members (including McConnell and Speaker Ryan) the past few days. I don't care what your view of the military is, it's a real bonehead move to not pay your soldiers.

what's the deal with that?

If you're not living up to your end of the bargain am I allowed to AWOL?

Is it AWOL at that point?

You're not paying me, I'm not sponging up bullets with my chest.

"All active-duty military personnel would keep working in the event of a shutdown. They would be paid up to Feb. 1, and then continue on the job without getting paid until the shutdown ended or until Congress and the president agreed to cover their costs before it ended.

The last time the government shut down, in 2013, the military remained on the job and legislation to pay service members during the shutdown was signed by President Obama. The same legislation, called the Pay Our Military Act, was used to bring back nearly 350,000 of the 800,000 civilian personnel who had been furloughed by the Defense Department. Because it was unable to pay death benefits to the families of soldiers killed in action, the Pentagon also contracted with a charity that footed those costs until the government could reimburse it.

Ultimately, it’s up to Trump to decide who stays on the job and who goes during a shutdown, said Stan Collender, an expert on the federal budget at Qorvis MSLGroup.

‘‘Not only can the president decide who or what is an essential activity, the president can change his or her mind anytime,’’ Collender said. ‘‘In the past, every president has exempted the military, for obvious reasons.’’

coolcoolcool.

Speaking of the news, I was on the local news last year discussing the heroin epidemic in Louisville, since then I have been active with a 'Stop Heroin' group of people that spread the gospel.(not church shit, addiction stuff).
I now work at one of the top treatment center for drug addiction/alcoholisim. I work 3rd shift, catching guys wanking, and playing on their phones(not supposed to do either). On top of all that I am in school working towards a degree in counseling.

Enough of that because in reality I'm still not shit.

This news shit does bother me tho, i don't keep up with it much, mostly stick to the weather channel because i can trust them with somewhat true weather.

Thanks for that info ebow, that sounds unsettling. I guess when you take that vow to protect n shit, u dont say anything about getting paid.

Unsettling is definitely the word for it. This administration gives up so many incredibly easy wins like this. It has bipartisan support. I can't think of a significant (in size not validity of their beliefs) group that would be opposed to making sure the military was still funded throughout the shutdown if it continues. At least they aren't kneeling for the anthem. That would be disrespectful.

D's I knew a bit of that through your Lounge posts. That's so awesome, man. I hope you're still writing. Honest injun.

the government is decent about paying out back pay (at least they were when i still worked for them). at worst they'll have everthing fill out paperwork so that payroll can make sure they got everybody that had to work during the shutdown days. it might end up taking a few months too, but as long as the shutdown doesnt last through the end of the month then it shouldnt affect military pay too much.

This is so weird. Aussie govt and public servants are paid better than anyone and theres no shut down as far as I know. Things just get shuffled around and people get redundancies though. Iur govt just orivatises services if they dont see fit to provide it themselves but we get taxed the living shit out of regardless.
