The 2018 Trump Presidency thread

Status
Not open for further replies.
He has disavowed racism and white supremacists for over 20 years and even went to court to allow blacks and Jews to become members of his golf club. If there are some racist people that enjoy the music of (insert popular band), does that automatically make the actual band racist themselves, especially if said band has gone on record disavowing racism? Of course not, and it would be silly to assume so.

The African American unemployment rate fell to 6.8%, the lowest rate in 45 years. I am so happy about this News!
If he is a racist then he's doing a very shitty job at screwing over minorities.

And, in the Washington Post (of all places), headline states, “Trumps first year jobs numbers were very, very good.”
Even the mainstream media is starting to come around.

He's an incompetent half wit. Job figures have fuck all to do with trump or his racist jibberish.

So politically, what is he responsible for? Does the POTUS just give flowery speeches and that's it? Or leads us to war? Would a war make you feel better about him? Obama was good at that.

Has he enacted or even promoted any racist policies?

So politically, what is he responsible for?[/B]
he's had basically one legislative success. his central campaign promise - repeal and replace obamacare - went down in flames. it was going to be so easy! only trump knew how to fix healthcare! what happened there? (no bonus points for blaming the democrats when the republicans control both houses and the white house).

but he has certainly signed a lot of executive orders. but wait! i thought executive orders were the devil's work?

trump said:
Feb. 19, 2016: “Obama goes around signing executive orders. He can't even get along with the Democrats. He goes around signing all these executive orders. It's a basic disaster. You can't do it.”

Jan. 26, 2016: “We have a president that can't get anything done so he just keeps signing executive orders all over the place.”

Jan. 26, 2016: “I hate what Obama does with gun legislation. He doesn't talk to anybody. He goes out and signs executive orders. In theory you're supposed to the old fashioned way, get everybody into a room and get something people agree on.”

Dec. 12, 2015: “I don't think [Obama] even tries anymore. I think he just signs executive actions.”

Nov. 10, 2015: “Nobody wants to listen to [Obama], including the Democrats, so he just goes around signing executive orders.”
(my emphasis. source: Six times Trump said executive orders were bad before he decided they were actually good)

is that trump related to this trump? i think we should be told.

when you wonder why people on the 'left' have absolutely no respect for him, this is the kind of thing that annoys us, you know?

ANTIFA are championing a communist revolution, since they've claimed capitalism as their boogeyman, completely ignoring the focal problem of pathological individuals in positions of power, which will exist in any system and if removed would allow our current system to operate much less exploitatively.

we need stop measuring the economy by how well rich people are doing...
What we need to do first is to stop blatantly ignoring evidence that harms your narrative. African-American unemployment rate fell to 6.8%, lowest rate in 45 years.
And the tax cuts are alleviating pressure on the poorest of our society. Why do you blatantly deny this? The reason higher-earners are receiving more tax relief in total is because they pay more tax i.e. someone on the lowest scale who saves $1,000 has a much lower amount to pay than a richer person who might save $100,000 in total. We also have some super rich people against these tax breaks.

These exchanges would be much more productive if we accepted the realistic outcomes of policy decisions.

Trump has announced that the Department of Defense will be audited, for the first time in history, finally putting the military-industrial complex's unrestricted expenditures under a microscope.
The Pentagon has "lost" over $10 trillion. Some say the figures are closer to $20 trillion. How do you lose that much money?? Could identifying and recovering some of this money help the poor of the US? Repair infrastructure? Why weren't the previous presidents all over this?

You think that epic list of resignations is just a coincidence?
When have we ever seen anything like this before? It is unprecedented.
There is so much happening behind the scenes and it's telling that the MSM is not even reporting on this.
This is what draining the swamp looks like.

Researchers state that it could be directly linked to this EO signed by Trump on 12/20/17, which unsurprisingly the media is also largely silent about:
Executive Order Blocking the Property of Persons Involved in Serious Human Rights Abuse or Corruption

I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, find that the prevalence and severity of human rights abuse and corruption that have their source, in whole or in substantial part, outside the United States, such as those committed or directed by persons listed in the Annex to this order, have reached such scope and gravity that they threaten the stability of international political and economic systems. Human rights abuse and corruption undermine the values that form an essential foundation of stable, secure, and functioning societies; have devastating impacts on individuals; weaken democratic institutions; degrade the rule of law; perpetuate violent conflicts; facilitate the activities of dangerous persons; and undermine economic markets. The United States seeks to impose tangible and significant consequences on those who commit serious human rights abuse or engage in corruption, as well as to protect the financial system of the United States from abuse by these same persons.

I therefore determine that serious human rights abuse and corruption around the world constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency to deal with that threat.

Almost every person named in the annex has direct links to the Clintons.

Trump Calling Himself a 'Genius' may not be humble, but it's accurate.
At getting things done right and ahead of schedule, there is no one more capable and it's not luck when you do it time after time.
Sorry, lefties, but Trump is indeed a political & managerial genius.

No, I cannot see any connection between the resignations of Robert Doyle or Sam Dastiary and Trump to name two people relevant to me.

The list is selective. What is the background rate of political resignations compared to your copy-pasted list? How do you know this is anomalous?

The straws are within reach ;)

Seriously? This is obviously extremely anomalous. How much have you heard from the media about a global spate of CEOs unexpectedly resigning? How much do you know about the hundreds of corrupt Saudi government officials and princes that were arrested, directly after Trump's visit to the country? The media is doing a good job giving us consistent updates on Trump's mental health, though. The real news! As we can all admit at this point - the MSM does not report on anything that is beneficial to Trump. So we can deduce that a large number of these resignations benefit Trump, especially when put into context of his EO going after assets, and the almost 10,000 sealed indictments across the nation. To compare, 1,000 over the span of a year is a normal to high amount. Sealed indictments usually pertain to dismantling huge criminal networks and remain sealed so that suspects don't get a heads up to destroy evidence. The EO involves the seizure of assets related to anyone engaging in human rights abuses or corruption. A guilty CEO would have to resign to protect their company. Look who just resigned -Eric Schmidt - who was running Google when we know that they were manipulating algorithms to favor Clinton during the election. If she had won then Schmidt would have had no worries. Trump won and Schmidt just resigned after the EO was signed. There's believing in coincidences and then there's really stretching the imagination..

And as the rats get cornered, their attacks on the President only become more vicious and desperate.

In other (un?)related news:
Trump designates January 2018 a month dedicated to combatting human trafficking

President Trump last week designated January 2018 as “National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.”

In a proclamation issued Dec. 29, Trump announced that January will be a time for the U.S. to “recommit ourselves to eradicating the evil of enslavement.”

“Human trafficking is a modern form of the oldest and most barbaric type of exploitation,” the proclamation read. “It has no place in our world. This month we do not simply reflect on this appalling reality. We also pledge to do all in our power to end the horrific practice of human trafficking that plagues innocent victims around the world.”

Former President Obama made a similar proclamation during his presidency, designating January 2017 as National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Obama also signed anti-human trafficking legislation in 2015 to provide services and protections for trafficking victims.

The difference is Obama didn't really do anything substantial to combat the problem and he had 8 years to do so. Obama's anti-trafficking bill made the minimum sentence for child sex trafficking a $5,000 fine. This is appalling. Since Trump was inaugurated a lot has happened with dismantling trafficking networks domestically and abroad. Let's see what January holds.

No, its not "obvious". You're not providing any information to compare the current wave of resignations with. You are implying causation here, but you aren't explaining how President Trump is connected to resignation of the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for sexual harrassment. How are these things causally related?

On the other hand, I can also see politics being 'cleaned up' due to Trump, but not because he is some shining, non-corrupt knight of freedom and truth, but because his own terrible, undignified behaviour has drawn attention to other similarly dirty politicians. These people could be a proxy for the impending removal of Trump which seems incredibly close- and I welcome it.

With that said, it is not uncommon in the political world for there to be scandals which ignite and take down a number of different politicians, with the citizenship scandal in Australian federal politIcs being an example. An issue erupts and spreads, the guilty parties are ousted and things settle down again. This often occurs and from my own readings I do not believe anything particularly anomalous is happening right now, besides the fact that an unqualifed twat is in power in the USA.

Anyway, I'm keen for you to prove your thesis that Trump is responsible for this situation.

Indeed, nothing to do with trump - unless you include all sexual misconduct claims that lead to resignations (doyle).

I'm of the opinion that the #metoo movement was precipitatated by the lecherous president (i think it's why the weistein stuff exploded when it did - people are sick of scumbags like trump abusing their power to commit sex crimes).

But that's about it.
It's a good idea to critically assess stuff you copy + paste :\

I think its Trump's corruption instigating this if anything.

But some only see the shiny bits, or imagine them at any rate. :\

I think a lot of people (women especially) are sick of creeps like trump thinking they can behave like boorish shitheads with impunity.
It's one of the few good things about trump. It's helping motivate and mobilise people with politics that are the opposite of the hard right racist/sexist/homophobic bullshit embodied by trump, pence et al.

A lot of people i know have become politically active because of this sick trump shit.
