2017 Trump Presidency Thread

There's about two-thousand jaw-clenching potholes on my three mile drive to work, and my Miata's tired suspension hates it. If somehow they do end up spending on infrastructure across the nation, I would actually quite appreciate it. Yay the government is discussing spending our tax dollars on something we all might actually use!(?)

My wet dream of the government shutting down looks to be pure fantasy. Trump will undoubtedly sign the bill.

"The problem is, this thing is being changed almost by the hour, and we're getting close to the end of the year," he said.
dog ate the repub's homework so they wrote in the margins and will keep doing so...on the hour every hour...

“Some of these issues they’re going to run into are just technical problems,” said Marty Sullivan, the chief economist at Tax Analysts. “But others are aggressive moves, where we’re going into the unknown in areas like international and on pass-throughs and doing things we’ve never done before.”

“If they do pass the bill, they lose with the American people,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California told reporters recently, before talking up Democrats’ chance to regain control of Congress. “Because even when we do win, to undo this will cost a fortune.”

Pelosi speaks the truth here.

This is an empty promise.

Um lets see AT&T and Comcast employees are receiving $1,000 bonuses, Fith Third Bank announced bonuses 13,500 employees & it's minimum wage increase to $15, Wells Fargo min wage increase to $15 and $400 million to charity, Boeing donating $300 million to employee related charity and that's just today.

By all means Captain keep paying more taxes, I mean if you wished the government to shut down in response it would only make sense being that your feels are that strong over the issue.

I can't wait till next year when I can read all the resenting posts over the infrastructure bill passing and everyone's lives in America continue to become greater!

None of this is good news. Giving away money while the gov't goes bankrupt is silly. We'll all be paying for it in spades in the long-run.

I hope you don't have any children. If so, you're setting them up for a lifetime of failure.

I will continue to wish for the federal government to shut down. If the U.S. government was a private company the entire country would beg for the CEO to go to jail, and it would be bankrupt and all the employees would be out of a job.

it took trump nearly a year to get a single major piece of legislation passed and its a tax plan of which the majority of americans disapprove.

i didn’t think he could set the bar much lower but here we are.

alasfair

I wholeheartedly agree.

But.....

He is winning the culture war on a near daily basis, that is why most people voted for him.

I'm a single issue voter on maintaining a good economy, Obama did a good job getting us out of the recession, he just could have done much more.

Imagine if he pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan from day 1, if his administration hadn't founded ISIS, if they didn't start a chain reaction of cold wars that would induce mass migration of 3rd world into civilized countries, at home they could have secured the borders and enforced immigration laws and the fact that his admin was so high on deportation was because for his 8 years you could just move here and settle down and buy a SS#and so long as you didn't get into conflict become one of the millions of illegal aliens that have devastated health costs and caused 7 million American men to be put out of a job due to a bull market economy enjoying the fruits of an army of modern day slaves.

I was still working for the government when the GOP shut it down years ago, it was a disaster. I'd much rather the federal government get fixed through the democratic process than abruptly shut down again.

Were you like "thanks, Obama" then?

I think it's an acceptable way to deal with politicians who have a collective approval rating below 10%. I don't blame Obama for the shutdown then.

Were you like "thanks, Obama" then?

For that, no. But for stuff like expanding the police state, increased summary executions via drone strikes, excessive neoliberalism to prop up the oligarchy and corprotocracy, continuing erosion of constitutional rights, the continuation of American imperialism, etcetc, absolutely.

This tax cut has got to have y'all worried. We are looking at 4% growth and once people start seeing savings, wage growth, and better jobs it's going to be bad for the narrative pushed by the liberal press. He is setting the bar high for future presidents with all of the things he is (not getting accomplished). Hahah I say this bc I'm loving the narrative that he is getting nothing accomplished. He is playing the media so well, and it's done all with twitter. My favorite thing is that he is loading up the circuit courts with young conservatives. The amount of regulation he is undoing is unprecedented along with his ongoing talks with the NAFTA deal. 2018 is going to be make or break, but with the senate seats up for grabs im confident the majority is solidified. Especially after the tax cuts kick in to embolden the economy and the mueller investigation vindicates him. Lmao the mueller investigation has been a blessing, hopefully uranium one and the fake pee pee dossier probes obama funded it and used it to investigate the oppositions presidential campaign. It's happening!

I’m not worried. I’m disgusted.

What a huge waste of money. The Republicans should be ashamed of themselves.

Where were all of those on the left when obama spent 9 trillion dollars with zero promise of paying it back? The double standard is sickening, and at least these tax cuts have a semblance of proof that it will be payed back, with growth nearing 4% this quarter it could be argued that repayment is plausible, really not even that much of a stretch. That's something static estimates that have been knocking the plan don't take into consideration.

Except that the tax cuts for people are phasing out over the next five years.

The tax cut for corporations could spur growth if corporations were short on funds. Too bad they aren't. Already some have announced stock by-back plans. Which may be good for the Americans who live on investment, but won't touch the average American who relies on wages.

I didn’t vote for Obama either time man.

This isn’t the “hate on Obama” thread but I have criticized him several times in CEP. I’m not particularly a fan.
Not saying that, just pointing out that you never said anything about the massive amount of debt he put is into.

Individual rates expire in 8 years*

So I saw a Canadian piece today talking about how bad this was for them. They had like a 26.7% effective tax rate on corps with many hidden taxes within the gst, other taxes and now with America down to 26.1 they won't even be competitive i the skilled manufacturing field. As with anything to do with the economy, nobody knows what will happen, but the record stock market and 4% growth might be an indicator of what's to come. Nancy pelosi said this tax bill will be armeggedon, but I have a feeling she might have been being a bit dramatic. I think the fact that Boeing, at&t, vorizon , and a few others did things like give 1000 dollar bonuses to all employees and raised their minimum wage to 15 an hour might be a bad sign for y'all. Sad part is you guys are going to be hoping and praying that the economy doesn't get better for everyone. If obama had been good for the economy I would have been his biggest champion, but I'm not a social conservative. Need to buckle up, I have a feeling we are in for a ride.
