2017 Trump Presidency Thread

He has an unstructured problem with the truth. He was preferred as a candidate to someone who had a structured approach to untruth. So it's like: pick your type of lie. You can pick the ideology power-aiming lie - or a more personal lie (if you're going to be cynical about it). It's a nakedly self-serving lie, it's like "oh thank god that's such a relief after the totalitarian ideology lies"

-Jordan Peterson

Someone once pointed out that the US has a weird policy of subsidizing certain businesses.

We all know that if an adult is making minimum wage, or close to it, they are likely requiring on various government programs to get by.

But a livable wage is unpopular.

Therefore, not only does the US reward those businesses that don't pay a livable wage by offering subsidies, we appear to prefer it that way. We'd rather have a cheaper burger at the fast food window and pay more in taxes, instead of having a livable wage and shrinking the dependency on government.

YES!! You do realize though, the folks that don't want to increase minimum wage just don't give a rats ass about how those workers get by. They get on their high-horses about how people wouldn't need government handouts if they stayed married, went to college, weren't a failure, etc.

Oops! I meant to just say "YES!!"...sorry for all the words ;-)

sorry to break it to you, but at least in middle europe, most people have been disgusted by american foreign policy for a long time and also disgusted by how our politicians used to suck up to the us of a

it is about time that the rest of the world starts to mind its business without licking americas butthole all the fucking time, because all your nation did after ww2 was bringing war and instability to the world to serve your own interest.

"leader of the free world" my ass, no one but americans believe this shit and the hippocrisy of us foreign policy has always been completely obvious.

well said.
america's global influence is declining rapidly, and for that i am grateful.

I also agree.

The sadness of all of Trump's lying, provoking and irresponsible talks is watching people look down at the US more than ever. It's all becoming tiring to hear this crazy guy with all the nonsense, contradictions and stupidity. I've noticed that the Financial Times and The Economist have also moved on are finally starting to cover less and less of Trump.

I just hope that in the long run, we will move to a more pluralistic approach to international politics and not just another regime of the most potent superpower coming next (China?).

...once he's crowned God Emperor.
you joke about this but the founding fathers of the u.s.a. would roll in their graves to hear people talk about a god emperor' in the context of the u.s.a.

you can look back on this post to console yourself and laugh as you're being herded into the buses to the 'reprogramming center'.

I disagree with most of what you wrote, but even *if* all that was true, the alternative is still far worse.

Make of that what you will.
Alternative facts?

Regarding the crowd in Poland: Those adoring crowds were bussed in from the rural areas where the people support a more right-wing government. The majority of people in Poland have a low opinion of Trump. And we all know he can be plied with false flattery.

A very North Korean move.

I think the shift to a multi polar world is inevitable. The question will be if those poles are able to coexist peacefully or not. The US best chance to stay relevant is through maintaining the NATO style alliance with Western Europe while strengthening ties to Japan and South Korea. That policy would contain the future China Russia and India axis that is developing.

How do you know this?

Is this your own independent conclusion?

Or are you just parroting MSM?

Probably read that from the same sources that claim the Polish first lady snubbed Trumps handshake which sounds a lot like your conspiracy theory.

That sounds a lot like the MSM reporting that Trump gets his kicks making fun of the disabled.

I don't watch or listen to MSM. I haven't in years.

The Polish First Lady was looking at Melania and didn't see Trump's hand. She shook it seconds later.

Trump was filmed mocking a disabled reporter, but admittedly he could have been pandering to his lowest common denominator crowd. I don't know his personal opinion about the disabled, except that he doesn't mind a health care plan that really screws them over as long as he can throw another kegger in the Rose Garden.

I'm not even a liberal, which is why I distinguish between Trump supporters, Republicans, and conservatives. This might be a lot for you to digest.

I'd put links up, but FAKE INTERNATIONAL NEWS!

World is moving back to a "Great Powers" stage from the current "Hyperpower" stage.

The US will still be a great power. But I preferred the US as a hyperpower. Great powers are less stable. We've seen the worse wars when great powers collide.

True.. but the thing is that he wouldn't have been satisfied with hyper power and would've aimed for supreme power..
