I had a pretty interesting experience today with the police that I thought I would share. I was driving home today after smoking a bowl in my car and ended up getting pulled over for having expired tags. After taking my drivers license and registration the cop instantly asked me if I had weed in the car because he obviously smelled it. I told him I did and it was a very small amount. He then asked me if I had been arrested before for anything and I suddenly got nervous and said no I hadn't, when in reality I did get arrested for possession of heroin and possession of a needle back in 2011 (I'm not addicted to heroin anymore and don't use any drugs besides weed). The cop runs my information as I see more police back up arrive and returns to my car and instantly asks me what happened in 2011 with the possession charge. I then shamefully admitted to it and apologized for lying to him and said I assumed that since I had taken care of the charge and it was expunged it would not show up.
I then was expecting the cop to treat me as most of us drug and ex-drug users would expect a cop to treat a documented junky who just lied to them and was driving in a car smelling like weed and bring the shit storm down on me with the usual name calling/verbal abuse and vigorous search of my person and the car while seated on the curb. Instead, the cop waves away his back up and leans into my window and takes off his sun glasses and proceeds in a very caring way to ask me about my history and what led me to become addicted to heroin and congratulates me on kicking the habit and wants to know what I did to help me get clean. He tells me he wants to use all the information he can get to help kids out there who he sees struggling with drugs. I told him I got clean by getting into serious weight lifting and martial arts and he tells me he lifts as well and we ended up having a 20 minute conversation on the side of the street about lifting and martial arts lol He didn't want to search my car at all and even let me keep my weed and told me to keep up the good work and let me go. No ticket, no nothing. I couldn't believe it lol
Anyone else have similar experiences with cops like this? There was a couple times back when I was still using heroin and crack where I got busted in the hood and the cops just threw away my dope but still treated me like a complete piece of shit who deserved to die. This was my first time dealing with a cop who really saw addiction as a disease and didn't treat me like a criminal. I guess the police are finally understanding a little lol
